Keep going with yours!! My first car was a 1977 Dolomite 1500HL in green too - I bought it in 1984. I knew nothing about the mechanics of cars, and I’d had it about 3 years, with lots of breakdowns, and one checked the oil and forgot to put the dipstick back in! When I realised the next day someone had taken the dipstick which I’d left outside the house. I drove round town ok for a couple of days, but then went on a 70mph dual carriageway. The oil light came on (it didn’t occur to me that the oil was coming out of the dipstick hole) so I kept going. The engine started making a nasty noise so I turned the music up and tried to get to the next exit - then the engine blew! Oh to be young and stupid. Got a reconditioned engine but it never drove the same - sold it as a non runner for £50. Fond memories watching your video.

My Mother took it over after he'd had it about 3 years and she used it for a few more years. I then had it off her and it was immaculate. I had a company car from my employer and the Triumph was taking space in the garage . One of my friends desperately wanted it so stupidly I sold it to him. He had it only a few weeks and he had a bad accident and wrote it off. I so wish I had it now. It was great seeing this video as it made me see what it would be like now. I should never had sold it especially as it was low mileage and in as new condition. I must have been mad 🥴

I greatly admire the flexibility you have in the UK, where it's possible to work on your cars in parking lots. In contrast, where I live, any car work in public spaces is typically reported, and the police may issue fines. As a result, we are required to either take our vehicles to a garage or pay for access to a self-service garage in order to perform repairs.

@TheObnoxiousMrPugАй бұрын
@@De5O54 Total nonsense. Doing basic maintenance like changing the oil, replacing the battery, spark plugs or light bulbs, airing or swapping the tyres, filling fluids and even doing body or engine work yourself is definitely allowed. If you couldn't, there wouldn't have been parts stores and car deconstruction companies everywhere, where you can buy perfectly good second-hand parts to use in your projects. However, if road safety is concerned, repairs have to be conducted by a certified mechanic with a proper workshop, tools and access to parts. Now that brings back some memories and sadly not all of them good. I had a manual dolomite 1500TC as my first car way back in 1978. When it was in the right mood it went like doo doo off a shovel, however, having to take the gearbox out through the car to replace a clutch (or two) was one PITA and setting up the twin 1.5inch SU carbs was often dependant on the way the wind was blowing. It eventually failed by throwing a rear half shaft after a mechanic 'friend' replaced a wheel bearing and reused the split pin holding the castled nut on. It broke and all I remember is seeing the wheel and half shaft bouncing away and disappearing on Galleywood common; the frame was twisted soo badly that the insurance company scrapped it (I never told them about the part played by my ex mate).

Love your videos. Have absolutely been there working on old cars. Think you have the right part, turns out there's like 3 different variations for the same engine/spec/model, and there is no way of telling until you side by side check them... fun times :D

Loving the content mate. Great bunch of videos. Just a word of warning regarding copart. Lots that have a C under the lot number sticker tend to be private sales and can have hidden surprises not in a good way as many trader send very ropey cars to copart. Anything with a X is a insurance writeoof and can be a tad bit better. Good luck on ur future adventures looking forward to more content.

you sir need your own TV show on MotorTrend or something , you are so entertaining , you just totally crack me up and a hoot and I can tell a very kind hearted person , should have 1 million plus subscribers , I am a huge fan of English cars , have had countless Triumphs and MG's and XKE's back when I was young. The way modern cars are where you need to have a degree in computer science and a phd in electrical and mechanical engineering and several other degrees from MIT it makes cars like this a breeze to work on

I will never forget the afternoon my Dad came home with a new car in 1978 in New Zealand , a new Triumph 2000 tc , the dash was exactly as your Dolomite . Flashist car we ever had ps, we never got these down under

I laughed out loud when you pushed the car in front of the floodlight, and alas, bonnet in the way... 😅 stellar job though and really like the videos!

Brilliant. Just popped up after a rather rough night of illness and something to look forward too.

Great vid, am amazed that the bottom hasn't rotted through though, most of these that I have seen have -when they made them like this, they had no computers or complex systems they were as basic as you could get, and as such most jobs could be done at home, even if it meant using an a-frame and block and tackle on your drive - it could still be done.

I'm not interested in fixing car engines, or so I thought until I watched your video . I really enjoyed it .

I had a 1972 Triumph 1500 which was basically a Dolomite but front wheel drive and also a Dolly 1300.. Loved em both!!!

My first car that I bought for £200, drove it before I passed my test. It was yellow and had the nick name of "the yellow peril" wings rusted on the top, that was the only bad part really, front seats and quick recliner levers, quite handy in certain circumstances lol, always wanted to get another.

I absolutely love your channel. I don't know if its a good thing or not but thanks to you I have built up enough courage to finally fulfill my plan of having a workshop for classic cars. I will start working at a Porsche restauration place and hope to own my own workshop a few years down the road

Love this idea. Buy something not running somewhere in the country and try get it to drive home. Makes a welcome change from the usual kind of videos on these kinds of channel. Keep it up I say, nice little niche.
