They definitely are considering the massive variety of munitions they can fire, and the greater range that their EXTRA and Delilah missiles have compared to GMLRS from HIMARS or M270. The Delilah is specifically very useful since it has the alternative electro-optical/FLIR guidance, which can be used to eliminate ground-based jammers and SAMs, which have been an issue for GPS-guided GMLRS in Ukraine. The only other MLRS I know of that has something comparable to that capability is the Turkish TRG system which can fire laser-guided artillery rockets, but that requires a separate laser designator unit to work with the MLRS team whereas the PULS doesn’t need that.

Difference is, these are all what the manufacturer states. They are trying to make money, of course they will try and make it sound better. HIMARS is battle proven and will be contiously upgrades. The PrSM will make HIMARS 10x more deadly. Also weight. The Israeli MLRS is not only a simply unlicensed copy of the 122mm grad rockets turned into guided ones but its much heavier.

The biggest deciding factor seems to be that PULS can accommodate non-proprietary missiles, and can be integrated into existing platforms. Dutch government most likely want to utilize domestic vehicles & missiles down the road, rather than 100% importing the entire system & munition.

If Israel isn't developing World Class Weapon Systems then it is taking current systems and making them even better. HIMARS is 30+ year old tech. Still one of the best but Israel just upped the game significantly.

@GreatRaphael true. I don't think the person saying "HIMARS is 30+ year old tech" understand that a systems name, doesnt mean its the same exact system for 30 years. Also, doesnt seem to realize HIMARS is just the launcher, not the munition. GMLRS is the standard rocket now, it isn't 30 years old. There's also minor upgrades such as GMLRS-ER(2x range) & more substantive upgrades to payload like GMLRS-AW(cluster munition replacement).

PULS is open architecture system that is better suited for future European expansion plans. PULS has better mobility on European Theater, and it has simpler logistics. I am sure that PULS introduction will prompt further HIMARS evolution and development, resulting in better, cheaper system that could be easily optimized for different requirements.

One area that was not covered, at least in any significant depth, is mobility and transport. The PULS system is considerably heavier than the M142 HIMARS. The M142 HIMARS was developed directly from the M270 MLRS, as a lighter, expeditionary, air transportable system of rocket artillery. The M142 HIMARS combined weight (truck, pod, and 6 rockets) weighs in at 38,500 pounds, making it C-130 transportable. The PULS system, mounted on a HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) is much heavier. The HEMTT truck by itself, with nothing on the back of it, weighs in at 42,500 pounds, making it 500 pounds overweight for a C-130. This means if you want to transport it by air, you need something comparable to a C-17 Globemaster or larger. Considering that over 2,500 C-130’s have been built, with over 1,000 in service with the US Armed forces alone, and only 279 C-17’s having been built, with only 222 in service with the US Armed Forces, it is easy to see why the U.S. uses the M142 HIMARS. The Dutch military however, not having the expeditionary requirements that the U.S. military has, doesn’t have to consider the weight or air transportability like the U.S. military does. Both systems have their place and are designed to meet the requirements of their users. Both systems are far superior to any Russian rocket artillery system, as all of Russia’s rocket artillery systems are unguided.

Most of the trucks which are suitable for carrying the system are much lighter then the HEMMT, also with additional armour.

@@bertnl530 although i can’t find the exact weight specifications of the PULS rocket artillery system itself, there is currently a “Light PULS” rocket artillery system under development for airborne and special forces. It will be C-130 transportable. There is currently no version of the PULS system that is C-130 transportable.

@@willymac5036You can find a animation video on KZbin about the 'Light Pulse' and there they have two of the systems depicted as being air transported by Ch47 Chinook. It is a bit of a puzzle to me why HIMARS has just one pod instead of two. Are you sure the design limitation was the extra weight and not perhaps the width ? A m270 is 3m wide and a C-130 cargo area is 3.02m wide leaving very little margin.

@willymac5036
@willymac5036 Жыл бұрын
@@RR-us2kp oh I am very familiar with the Airbus A400M. With a capacity of 81,600 pounds, the A400M most likely could transport the PULS rocket system. There are 10 countries that use the A400M, however the Netherlands are not one of them. The Netherlands do use the C-130 though. As I said earlier, each system was designed to meet the needs of their respective countries militaries. The U.S. Army has an expeditionary requirement for its rocket artillery systems. The Dutch Army does not.
@wreckincrew2714
@wreckincrew2714 Жыл бұрын
1 primary and significant reason HIMARS is smaller and only carries 6 missiles is because you can put it in the back of a C130 fully armed, land the aircraft, roll the HIMARS out the back, fire all missiles, and be back on the C130 ready to take off in 5-10 min. Completely different purposes and reasons for the size and ammunition capacity. The Netherlands will never need to project power outside of its little European bubble since it continues relying on the US to save its ass when SHTF. So give Israel the credit it deserves but the 2 systems have different design purposes. Should've compared the US MLRS...... But it doesn't seem that the research for a proper comparative analysis was used in this video via the approach taken and statements made. Other than that good video.
@bertnl530
@bertnl530 Жыл бұрын
The choice was made on technical data, HIMARS is already pretty old. Another thing is that the system has an open architecture. The PULS missile are less expensive then the HIMARS. This gives the army better chances for continuing the battle, because they can buy more missiles for the same money. Another thing is that Denmark and Germany are also thinking about this system. This gives big advantages in interchangebility, maintenance, developing new projectiles and training. Why having three trainingcentra, when you can do it with one?

Israel is famous for its brain power, so it develops state of the art weapon systems, but it lacks production capacities and capacities to produce these systems. That’s why Rafael, IMI, Elta and other Israeli Flagships establish partnerships with Raytheon, Reinmetal and other giants and license production of their systems to USA, Germany, India and other industries nations. For example, their famous Spike missile subsidiary in Germany is only 20% Israeli owned. The dominant80% is in German hands. The world most sophisticated Arrow-3 is 50% American…

The US should end aid to Israel. 1, Military Aid to Israel is unnecessary. Israel is a very prosperous country and more than capable of paying for its own military. 2.Military aid to Israel is a security risk to the United States. Israel has been selling American developed military technology to China for more than two decades. These sales have been instrumental in the modernization of China's military. 3.Military aid to Izrael is a diplomatic liability, 4, Military aid to Israel is illegal under American law. Israel's human rights violations disqualifies Israel from receiving military aid under the Leahy law and Israel's refusal to allow inspections of its nuclear sites or sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty make any aid to Israel illegal under the Symington Amendment.

It is not as simple as it looks. Yes, Israel is in much better position to support it needs, and it can now do it without this assistance. From another hand, Israel is still a very small country that that lacks industrial capacities, so despite the fact that they sell a ton of weapon systems all around tbe world, the majority of the hardware is outsourced to other industrial nations like US, Germany, India… For over 8000 Spike missiles sold in Europe Israel got just 20% share, compare to 80% going to Reinmetals and other German giants. And don’t forget that these money could inly be spent in the United States at the very advantageous prices.., subsidizing the Military-Industrial complex. Although.., I agree…, this assistance program needs to be reviewed and optimized to the current realities.
