By far, this is the BEST video and explanation on mastering the takeaway. It took me from a double-digit golfer to single-digits and becoming one of the longest hitters in my golfing group. I'm truly enjoying my golf game right now and looking forward to continuing to learn from you and Adam's video lessons. Keep up the GREAT work, it truly has transformed my game and I'm sure it has done the same for others as well. Can't say enough about how GREAT the videos you guys put out, easy to understand and even easier to practice. Thank you to you both.

Excellent. I have been struggling with inside takeaway for years. When I can keep club head outside my hands on takeaway, I strike the ball much better. Using the two alignment sticks and keeping club head along stick longer and moving hands straight back with out wrist manipulation really helps . Thanks

I used to take the club away in the inside by turning the hip early and I hooked or pulled most of my shots, I was afraid to follow your takeaway lesson not to push or slice the ball. After I tried it for a couple of rounds I can not hit my irons any better, perfectly straight, even the longer irons which were my main weakness, thank YOU. The only issue I have now is I am fading the driver instead of drawing it, same with 3W, not the 5W or 7W though, any advice to get the driver and 3W straighter like my irons? Thanks!

I started playing golf from whe I was in my early teens about 5 years ago and this one video was just another one of your many videos I have watched and tried to implement. Now ---- I can honestly say I can not wait to get back out on the course next weekend. Yesterday was a good round --- BUT --- now with this --- this is literally just the few swing thoughts to maintain during the round from this point forward. I even implemented the and path during putting --- Holy cow what a difference.

Excellent teaching video. If every beginner golfer would watch this video and learn this first, they would save themselves years of having to unlearn bad habits. I've seen so many golfers that had bad swings because they started the takeaway wrong, and the rest of their swing was making compensations for a bad takeaway. Really good video, thanks.

Hold or tape an alignment stick to the butt end of a golf club and swing with the stick against your lead thigh during the takeaway and lifting of the arms. Incredible drill to get the correct hand path and feel. This will likely feel horrible for most people but perfect on video. With this drill you can’t do it wrong. Do this and your ball striking will go to the next level.

Am I correct in saying you want the players hands to stay on the same line going back until P 3 ? Then they will begin to turn up as shoulders turn more.

I have been working on this premise for several years and I think the biggest issue I have is that the right arm stays on top of the left instead of bending up. It causes me to not be as deep on my backswing and be across the line the longer the club.
@GolfPitt6 ай бұрын
take some back swings with your right hand open, so it can’t impart any influence on the club… this is going to give your lead arm a good workout and should help. And if that doesn’t work, just try doing your best jon rahm imitation!! 😂. I say this jokingly but not really. We have many many very good players who use visuals as feels, a “short jon rahm” is one very effective one!

One thing I've always been stuck on, you get the set position, turn to the top, and then turn back through. But do you release the set position? or do you hold that angle you've created through and release it beyond the ball?
@GolfPitt6 ай бұрын
that is a great question and will be covered in detail in an upcoming video on the release! At the end of the day we don’t feel like we’re trying to hold the angle through the golf ball. the force of the rotation of the swing would mean that you were fighting the natural energy of the club. that said a lot of people who have been casting may need to feel more of their hands and handle accelerating past the golf ball through impact which in the near term may feel like your not releasing the set position at first…. We want to get all of the energy we can out of that set position we create into and through the ball.

Easy with a wedge,,, but longer irons like a 7 iron is where I struggle. Even though it "should" be the same swing the feel is different somehow.
@GolfPitt6 ай бұрын
It’s because the club is longer. The ball is further away from you and the line angel is different. I bet the rhythm of the backswing gets a little quicker when you have a longer club en hence the mechanics breakdown.. try really slowing it down in the takeaway
@DysonGuthrie-jy3ns4 ай бұрын
Good video. A lot of attention is put on don't turn your hips, shoulders, etc. This drill pretty much does that and gets you turning at the right time with little effort. As in a more natural golf swing. I was paying way to much attention to other things than hand path.
@rickmiller889328 күн бұрын
I made the mistake of stretching the club head out down the line so long the hands followed it... Then I began to believe in it as I thought that was "built in" arm lift and necessary. I didn't think about low camera angles of the pros on tv.
@MrShagdog6 ай бұрын
OK, GOOD STUFF ! 1) Keep your hands centered with the CL of chest, ENTIRE SWING.2) This is a lead side, body powered swing, for me. The trail side is passive. 3) I also set the shaft at the start-up trigger, aligning with the lead arm, pointing to the swing radius pt ( lead arm-pit area ) and maintain this alignment entire swing to control the arc radius, low pt of the swing. The connected lead side ( NO ARM SWINGING) How do you get the body starts & continues the swing to the "end" of the takeway. Now what ??? How do yo get the lead arm/ club unit up to th shoulder line with-out "lifting" the arms off the body. BTW, I wish you & Porzack had come along 10 yrs ago. I'm 73, and I've wasted a lot of time learning bad technique.

check your hand path and make sure it’s not moving out while you do this. Also simply put if the club is too far outside at that point you can simply try to feel slightly more inside and it’ll actually be right on plane.

@mesillahills6 ай бұрын
Where you are going all wrong is in execution. In a touring pro "connected" swing the arms and shoulders only go along for the ride. It is the big body trunk muscles which take the club back. The path back is determined by them. This is why both Nicklaus and Palmer insisted that the first four inches of the take-away are the most important part of the backswing. That is because it is the only place in the swing where the big body trunk muscles can initiate the swing. Once past that point the swing is what you are teaching. And that is an unconnected swing that is loaded with a need for timing. That timing NEVER carries to the first tee. Some touring pros say their golf swing is only as good as the first four inches of the take-away. Hal Sutton said that. What I am saying is not particularly easy to do when you have done it wrong all your life. I like to think it is the muscles on my side located just above my belt line. And you can't take it back EVEN A SMIDGE with your arms and shoulders. Wrists ALONE are another issue for some golfers. They can be moved without moving the arms and shoulders. Tom Weisskopf did that. All this is also how you also get "level". You are moving everything around a single axis. The need for timing is dramatically reduced. Swings are getting shorter today. Now you know why.
@federationspace52646 ай бұрын
uhh ok skip to 6:59 for the actual instruction. so much wasted time barfing about angles and checkpoints. if you're supposed to move your body and chest not your arms and hands, a movement that is completely counter-intuitive and not what 99.9% of golfers would naturally think to do, maybe you want to start with that, right? it's difficult to master the takeaway when you don't know what to do. i still don't know if i believe him.
