Yeah, I brought an international driving license / permit from the U.K. You can only use it for 6 months if you are resident or have citizenship. I got my U.K. license translated and Notorised in Moscow. I obtained a ten year license which will take me up to age 77!! Great not having to take the theory test. I couldn’t believe my luck. As my U.K. license will expire in two and a bit years I will obtain an international driving license here for use in the U.K. if I ever return.

I totally agree with your comments on this. I was studying and trialing the theory test using online test sites and this proved very educational - indeed!!!! I failed the online tests several times 😱 After studying the differences, especially with the roundabouts and priorities of Trams etc., I was obtaining 94% pass rates. I was primarily concerned with how to translate the exam questions at the test centre. I could not believe my luck when I accidentally stumbled across the exemption notice this year for foreign drivers. I booked an appointment straight away. It only took an hour at the centre and the new driving license was in my hand. Amazing efficiency. Pity the U.K. is not this straight forward. But then, that’s one of the reasons that I left!!!!

@Chances1957 hi mate, if you don't mind me asking how long it took you to adjust to drive on the other side of the road... was it hard? Greetings from land down under 🙃
@Chances1957
@Chances1957 Күн бұрын
@@Shumaevthank you for your question. I have driven in the US, Spain, Italy and in Moldova and quite a bit in Crimea. Obviously if you drive an automatic there are less things to concentrate on. It didn’t take more than ten minutes to start to feel comfortable driving and after 30-60 minutes it became quite automatic. The one thing that caught me out were the odd roundabouts in Sevastopol, Crimea, as they actually have “Give Way” or “Yield” points ON THE ROUNDABOUT itself. I must admit that I don’t drive in Moscow as there’s no point due to the excellent and cheap public transport here. The other problem are the traffic jams in Moscow. I enjoy driving, but I hate congestion!!!

So I had to go to a Russian driving school along with a bunch of 17-18 yo (how you do, fellow kids) and then do the theory and driving exam. Had to do the whole ordeal twice.
