I'm a big PXG fan - bought the 0211's. PXG customer service is second to none - when they did a huge price drop on the 0211's after I'd bought them, PXG gave me the difference in a PXG voucher. I love the look of these new ones.

Same here. I purchased their 0211STs (during the Covid years) which were solid forged, beautiful and felt absolutely great! I kept buying PXG and Gen 4, 5 and 6 trading in older revs at upgrading. Glad I held off on purchasing the all chrome look Gen 6 and will move to the Gen7 which checks off that box for me. I know I won't lose ground on the tech either, just better! I will never get rid of my 0211STs however, they are that good and to this day wonder why PXG discontinued them since they were pure blades! They were also selling at a ridiculous low price as well! If anyone has insight on the 0211STs

The XP I thought could shot shape more and grow with me as a 10 handicap, but I found out that it’s actually the larger face design (P) that’s meant for mid low handicappers and shot shaping. Stoked to get them in 2 days 💪

I have started drinking the PXG Kool-Aid! I just received my Gen 7 irons. Do you think, as I do, that Bob Parsons is the Eli Callaway of the 21st century? The biggest separator of PXG for me is the individual fittings at their stores. There is no limitation of the choices to try, unlike PGA Tour Superstore - where the fine-tuning is done via guesswork. Matt Russel at the Atlanta location was fantastic. At a PXG location, you have not only all the head and shaft options to try but also swing weight combinations! Matt was able to bend and modify the loft and lie right in the fitting bay for me to find the most optimal numbers based on Trackman data. To coin it in a single word - Marvelous!

I am debating between the PXG Gen 7 XP or the PXG Black Ops 5 - PW , GW other than the 520 canadian dollars difference in price I am still having a tough time choosing ( I know first world problems ) I am 59 and play with a 8 handicap arthritis and father time is catching up to me so i am looking for something forgiving and easy to hit and something for distance also I am unable to get fitted due to location your thoughts ? or anyone elses is welcomed thx cheers from Canada OH or should i be looking at the GEN 6 P series ?

I play the 0211 irons and my 7 iron backspin is similar to yours. The ball will absolutely hold the green even though the backspin is in the 4,500 range. For the next review, maybe show a close up of the green to how much roll out there was.

Excellent review Andy. Strangely, despite my predilection for more traditional clubs, I find PXG clubs quite appealing. I'd be tempted by PXG if fitting was more readily available. Not really got anywhere to pick up a demo club and give it a serious workout.

I think the concept is interesting and certainly the industrial look in earlier models caught the eye - sadly here in the golfing desert that is east anglia, there is no where to see/try the clubs - and it has to be said that the price is eye-watering (although this true for all the major brands)

I am not quite understanding your point on blended set given the huge difference in lofts. Was it 7-W/A in "P" and 4/5/6 in "XP" or was 7 in XP? Looking at the 7 loft, there is 3 degrees difference between the P and XP. If 7 is in XP, then one goes from 7 at 27 to 8 P at 34 (7 degrees gap). If between 6 and 7, you still have 6 in XP at 23 to 7 in P at 30, which is still 7 degrees. So, for average golfer's where should the gap be. it almost seems like the 4 in the XP at 18 degrees is getting too low and should be hybrid or fairway. The 4 in P at 20.5 seems to me where the bottom should be for irons. Just wondering how one would blend.

Hard to make out in your video if you are using the MMT graphite shaft or not. Graphite shafts combined with the PXG tech really reduces vibration, sound and feel. Especially pleasing for the over 60 crowd regardless of handicap. Just curious on your thoughts about shaft selection during your fittings since PXG has a very good selection of free graphite options and well as premium vs the steel shafts like True Temper Elevate and the others?

Hi Gary, it depends the reason you are changing, I was really surprised by the performance of the XP main reason the ball flight and launch was far higher that the strong lofts would suggest. They also appear to be forgiving across the club face, if you can get to one of the custom fit centres I would try them both

The xp model 7 iron with only 4400rpm of spin is a little scary if its the ball is wet or in the rough. Definitely would need to play a high spinning ball with those.

Good question, I would say the biggest difference is the shaping rather than the size, Ping has a unique profile whereas the XP is more traditional

Had the Pings G430s , and I would say that sole width if about the same. Top line, not too sure maybe a tad thicker and longer but still a decent looking game improvement iron. Ping's issue for a lot of golfers is their acustics. Having said that, with the PXG you lose the loud click at impact and gain the sound and feel on solid strikes as in Mizuno (245) land but with much more forgiveness! I have both sets so depending how I feel I play one or the other. When you retire you can flaunt a little ! :)

There's loads of discussion about this on GolfWRX. Tons of debate about one generation vs another - most say gen 3 was the closest to a blade feel. I still play gen 3 T; can't get them out of the bag. Maybe gen 7 will do it. 🤷‍♂️

I play gen 5 XP irons. And I have grown a gap in my clubs. I hit them well.. but my 54 degree goes 110 yards.. my gap is my 130 club, PW (145), 9 (160), 8 (175).. etc... I couldn't imagine hitting these and getting more yardage. Seems like too much.

If the 7 iron is only spinning at 4000 rpm what’s the wedge spinning at, you hit them out them semi rough where the normal strike pattern is to strike it slightly higher on the face due to the grass - the spin will massively drop off and you will get major flyers no question about it. That one that launches high and just flies forever. 10 or 15 yards over the back of the green. When will people learn - true forgiveness is consistency. Consistency of spin and therefore distance control. These irons are only any good for long iron replacements as in 4 iron and below

It’s always an interesting analysis when people look at only one data parameter in isolation and that is a big mistake. I’ve filmed reviews for over 5 years and during that time my personal spin on a 7 iron is generally no greater than 5500rpm, during that time I have filmed 100’s of on course product tests, I call it reality and I have never struggled to stop a ball on a green with any of those irons, I am afraid many golfers are seriously misled by how much difference 1500-2000rpm actually makes 👍

You may find it not to make as much difference at your level but certainly the better you get it makes a much bigger difference. Control and consistency is forgiveness. The XP may not be for me but those are very impressive numbers. Sure the spin rate is low but the peak height and descent angle means the ball will stop on the green. Whilst I still prefer the old look of the P irons, it is still a very nice looking club, I am just not as keen on it. Loft is just too strong for me. I will stick with my i210s

Pxg used to do a lot of fittings here in Northern Ireland but sadly dont see them so much, they have them in golf stores but the experience is no where near what an actual pxg fitting is, real shame because for me its all about the fitting experience and knowledge, 99% of golf store salesmen just dont have

Spin = control ….. with proper spin, you can fly the ball lower, greens become much easier to hold, flight gets much more consistent, etc, etc, etc. For someone with really low speed, ok, there is a point. But I cant understand why would you play a 7i at 4.000 rpm to carry 170y, if you could play at 6.000 and cary 160y. Game becomes much more easy. I imagine you will play the PW at 5.500 and carry 140y. One question, how will you close the gap to your GAP Wedge?

That's not the choice though & it's what many of the traditionalists get wrong. The choice isn't 7i vs 7i - it's club A vs club B from X yardage. This is the upside of "loft jacking." If the 7i goes as far as the old 6i, now you're hitting 8i from 150yds instead of 7. Therefore the proper comparison for this 7i isn't to a 7i that spins 7000 rpm and goes 10 yards less; the proper comparison is against whatever club in the weaker-lofted set goes the same distance. And chances are that club will be at least 0.5" longer shaft and spin similarly.
