If any 90s property could use one final arc or movie to give it that final bang, it's Yu Yu Hakusho. It reminds me of berserk in a way since both deal with very real complex human emotions. I got into as a senior in high school 10 years ago and absolutely fell in love with the characters. It's interesting comparing it to the other popular 90s Shonen since the characters feel so real and human. Can not recommend this enough. Easily in my top 3 manga/anime of all time

I actually think the anime and manga endings compliment each other quite well. Like Togashi stated, the last arc would just turn into a rehash of Dark Tournement, and while as I get that would be more satisfying to see, I am okay with what we got if we consider what is in the manga, like fleshing out Mukuro as a character. I am glad that Yu Yu Hakusho didn't live to become a parody of itself, and ended giving us a great send off to all of those wonderful characters.

There is something uniquely organic about Togashi's art style. It's so fluid and varied without ever clashing. It's a style that I could never replicate. I almost prefer it to the anime's art style which is spectacular in its own right. I kinda wish now that I could see what Togashi had in mind for "deconstructing" these character specifically, though I feel he accomplished that with Kuwabara becoming a normal student.

Honestly I still like the final arc, it has some of the best characterization in the show for Yusuke, Hiei and Kurama, also a fantastic setup and some great new characters that despite the short time we spend with are honestly some of my favorites. Unfortunately this arc suffers because Togashi cut it short, with one of the main reasons being as a fuck you to Shonen Jump for not letting him do what he wanted. But hey, that's probably why Jump gave him some insane contract for HunterxHunter where he can do whatever he wants as long as he releases a minimum of 10 chapters every 1 to 3 years.

I was born in 94 and also have only seen the dubbed version. It’s easily my favorite anime if not series ever. Growing up I watched the regular stuff like DBZ on Tsunami, some dragon ball, first few seasons of digimon, a couple sporadic episodes of early Pokémon, yu-gi-oh, and the Saturday morning cartoons stuff. It sucked because I could never talk to anyone about it bc all they would watch were the ones listed. I know the main reason was because it would only air on tsunami every week night at 11 pm or 12 midnight about a few hours after DBZ would air. So I had to put the volume level pretty low and pretend to be sleeping if I wanted to see it lol. Since then I’ve only watched attack on titan a few episodes of dragon ball super so I definitely wouldn’t be considered an anime head. But I’ve since randomly binge watched each seasons separately a few times since. Nowadays people are lucky they have the ability watch anything at any time, but the silver lining is that i was never able to watch about 10 episodes of season 1, the second half of season 3, and none of season 4 until I was like 17 or 18. So it was pretty awesome to be able to experience it as brand new 10 years later. It was nearly perfect imo. The only thing I wish is that they didn’t rush season 4 causing it to end on an abrupt uncharacteristic note. Don’t get me wrong s4 is still good, but it’s plot had the potential to be the best of them all. I know they say it’s because it took a major toll on the creator of the manga. Something I don’t really understand is why so many people like hunter hunter. I tried hard getting into it but I couldn’t even make it past the middle of season 2 on Netflix during a 12 hour drive. I could watch the million summaries made on here, but none of them seem to really interest me. Seriously why or what do most people like about it?? It’d be kinda neat if they remastered them, but honestly I could care less because the older art style has aged so gracefully that it’s refreshing. From the animations to the fillers (which I consider to have almost none that don’t have a good purpose or are entertaining in some other way.) if they were to do a remake or reboot I’m not sure if I could watch it if the original voice actors of team yurameshi especially yusuke and hiei. Those voices really made the characters on top of all the already great character development for me. Does anyone think it’s possible or slightly likely for them to make some type of reboot. I’m aware of the OVAs, but not a fan of voices especially since they’re mostly subbed. I know a lot of times gone by since they were first used, but I think the lady who does genkai and frieza still works as well as Justin cook (yurameshi.) They say the reason Justin cook did so good was because he was 19. So I don’t really expect for him to have that same voice. They can create a story line that begins with yurameshi being much older and have him take the sensui position as the older, more powerful spirit detective. Hell, they could even just do one more season with yusuke having the same epiphany sensui had when he turned against humanity many years before yusuke took over his shoes. I wouldn’t mind if it all ended with yurameshi becoming more twisted than sensui, and he was able to accomplish something more sinister than sensui, and left us all in a wtf state. Maybe koenma was a secret reincarnate of an unknown but the most powerful demon and in order to gain complete control over each realm, he has to work undercover as a lonewolf until he was able to exploit the vulnerability of spirit world. I’m just throwing stuff out there. Anyways , sorry for the long post.

I just watched it front to back in like a month and compared a lot of moments back and forth between the English lines and the Japanese lines, and I think similarly to how the anime as a whole improves upon the manga (albeit with some cut content), the English dub improves upon the usually straightforward Japanese lines with ones that bring out more personality or humor. Although there are some moments where I prefer the Japanese lines (as they are translated), I think Funimation saw and ceased upon opportunities and did an excellent job with their embellishments as well. And as fast as the the last arc went, the manga seems to have some content of its own that the anime didn't adapt.

I'm honestly a bit disappointed by this review. Not in terms of quality or summarization (great job sir! This was my first video of yours I had the pleasure of watching), but because I was HOPING the manga would have been more fleshed out than the anime. Specifically, hints of characters learning new techniques and overall expanding themselves even more than what I experienced from the anime. Case in point, both Kurama and Hiei taking interest in learning from Genkai, or Kuwabara expanding his abilities with his spirit sword (controlled long ranged attacks, multi-sword fighting, etc) in the Dark Tournament arc (witch is the ABDOLUTE peak of the show, and one of the all-time greatest anime experiences). It just seemed like after the Dark Tournament no one *really* changed. There were very few new abilities or traits shown by the main four characters, Genkai was just kinda there, and I never quite understood why it wasn't until THE VERY END of the series that Yusuke had limited ammo for his spirit gun (like, he became MULTIPLE times more powerful during his fight with Sensui, but he still can't shoot more that 5/6 spirit gun blasts? Toguro could shoot an "infinite" amount of rounds and is now left in the dust in terms of power output. But I digress). In short, I appreciate the show quite a bit for it's (ironically) classic 90's vibes and timelessness, and I just wish they'd gone just a bit deeper with character development past the Dark Tournament. It's an absolute treasure and treat to watch, and deserves every bit of praise and even more recognition for everything it offers.

so are we not gonna talk about the BIGGEST difference in the manga and anime in the fact that Lord Yama is found out to be the secret antagonist that had been orchestrating everything bad between the 3 worlds. mans literally led sensui to the black tape, released hella demons and in the anime they just kinda skip by it by having Jr. talk about how he suspects his father in the final arc in a bypassing conversation before the tourny. really feel like that concept is the one that shonen jump wasnt feeling hence why togashi said f em
