The guard that talks to Dreth before you kill him probably did it. 1) He asks no guards be killed 2) Hes at the end of the tunnel he could easily escape if guards are being killed 3) He hates Dreth 4) He leaves the door to the prison unlocked after he leaves Dreth possibly for you 5) He knew Dreth was about to be released soon due to Dreth telling him 6) He beat prisoners late in the night. Dreth tells you everyone dies in there. The guard would have no problem doing the black sacrament and could do it with a prisoners body. He would also maybe hate that Dreth was the possible only survivor
@GothamandGomorrah2 жыл бұрын
We already see the likely body the black sacrament was performed on; the mythic dawn assassin. I believe it’s more likely to be Captain Monrose. He’s not going to be there,so no chance of him getting killed. But he would want want his guards to stay alive as they’re ‘his men’. But likely doesn’t care so much, that it isn’t strictly stated & only considered a bonus, as they’re just guards and not considered important by Empire standards. Why doesn’t he just get the guards to do it? Either, a) an oversight by the developers (unlikely as we’re not strictly told who has ordered the assassination anyway) Or, b) Because Monrose doesn’t even know that the guards beat the prisoners to death. So doesn’t think to use them. And/or c) to avoid protest and possibly lose his position and wind up in prison himself. He’s not very well liked by the men who have to follow his orders. So they might prefer to go over his head and rat him out than to fulfil the order themselves. As for the evidence of the black sacrament. The only evidence left is the nightshade on the altar. There’s no remaining evidence other than the body itself. So the guards are likely none-the-wiser a black sacrament had been conducted. And think nothing of the nightshade. Dead bodies in the oblivion game aren’t graphically displayed. So we don’t know what it actually looked like. But the guards could be left to just assume any deep lacerations, deep enough to, say, remove organs, were as a result of killing. Or, more plausibly, the organs (including the heart) were removed to preserve the body. Like we see with embalming techniques. With the Black Sacrament being conducted directly after the removal of the organs, and before any embalming. With the body and the nightshade being placed back there on the site of the incident. We know embalming techniques exist and are ubiquitous across Tamriel because of Skyrim with the mission in Windhelm. As well as all major cities having crypts which use such funeral practices by the priests.

@@GothamandGomorrah why would montrose want to have dreth killed its entirely unrelated to his "power move"
@GothamandGomorrah2 жыл бұрын
@@eviljoe9548 Maybe he secretly agrees with his men that they would be better stationed somewhere else, but an order upon high has them stationed there after the death of the Emperor. I think it makes more sense than saying it’s someone who would be on duty there. Because they could get taken out by an assassin. Someone who isn’t going to be anywhere near there would better fit the description of someone who ordered the assassination.
@andymac48832 жыл бұрын
@@GothamandGomorrah Here's what I don't figure, though; why does Dreth's death make things better for Montrose and his guards? I doubt they're _actually_ down there to protect Dreth in particular, more the prison in general, so I don't see the higher ups just calling off the posting if Dreth dies. Indeed, he's going to be gone soon anyway when he gets released. Surely letting an assassin in would make things worse down there, since it would prove that it's a weak spot that needs guarding. Sure, maybe Montrose and his men get reassigned for their failure, but this is Montrose's chance to impress his CO, and letting an assassin slip by is hardly impressive. Besides which, it's about as likely that they stay down there, only with more guards in place, since the posting obviously needs more manpower.
@GothamandGomorrah2 жыл бұрын
@@andymac4883 Very good points. I’d say then it is likely an oversight by developers. Because no one is going to hire the dark brotherhood to potentially get themselves killed just to ensure Dreth dies. (Killing zero guards is merely a bonus)
@stebbenwolfe2 жыл бұрын
I found it interesting that despite the fact he was going to be released, he still insisted you break him out of there. Which points to his fear that the guards would kill him before letting him out. I couldn't bring myself to hate Dreth. It seemed obvious that he was heckling others as a coping mechanism. After suffering eleven years of torture in a foreign land, he was finally getting out. How would you feel in his situation?
@ajuicywaffle90372 жыл бұрын
it’s similar to the treatment Nazeem received from Skyrim players. for some reason a lot of TES players hate those npc’s who have just a rude or condescending attitude with a violent passion. being given rude dialogue is a death sentence for an npc in an Elder Scrolls game
@MrEntaray2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it a coping mechanism. He's in prison, in a place where information of what happens inside rarely makes it out to the public. He talks shit all the time, and if he talks shit to the guards, he gets beat. So he talks shit to the other prisoners, who can't reach him. To me, this is just a sign of not shutting up when you really ought to because "hur dur you can't get me". Dreth gets killed because someone somewhere thought the world would be better place if Dreth was silenced permanently. I think a *real* coping mechanism for imprisonment is the horse thief in Skyrim's intro. He's constantly trying to reason with himself that he's not a rebel and that he doesn't deserve execution, he desperately calls out to the Divines to save him, he almost downright begs for his life, and then books it when he has a chance. There's genuine fear of what's to come, and him speaking just pushes the fear a little longer until he's shot. And it's not like Dreth is safe anyway. The Black Sacrament is done, money is exchanged, a deal was made. Storytelling-wise, if the player doesn't kill Dreth, some other assassin would. Dreth is dead anyway, the killer may as well be the last prisoner he tried to insult.
@KimberlyKjellberg Жыл бұрын
Playing as a female Dunmer and having him coming onto you in a very sleazy way makes it easy to hate him. As a male Dunmer he talks about how he will hook up with your wife. I really prefer his regular insults.
@georgeoldsterd8994 Жыл бұрын
@@MrEntaraywhat you're describing is literally his way of coping. He knows the guards will beat him if he talks back, so he takes it out on fellow prisoners, who, he knows, will not be able to do anything about it. He's no longer as afraid, having been stuck in his cell for eleven years, but he still doesn't actively antagonize the guards, even though he's well aware that they'll beat him anyway. The horse thief in Skyrim (Lokir, was it?) is not coping, he's in denial, he refuses to believe that he got into such a serious mess (he's being driven to be executed alongside the leader of a rebellion) just for stealing a horse.x

One time I did this quest I got caught by a guard but instead of reloading I just ran while healing until I killed Valen then I got arrested.

This quest is the most satisfactory quest in whole Oblivion, or even entire Elder Scrolls series. That pathetic fetcher Dreth got what he's been asking for from the beggining of the game, and the Dread Father Sithis delivers!

When I first did the game I picked the “your going to die” option he then opened the cell door and spawned a ghost to attack us I found it strange

I just played Oblivion for the first time ever. I played it on PC with the full suit of mods of course. My point in saying all that is man it's crazy what vanilla oblivion faces actually looked like lmao

I love Oblivion finished my first play through recently in fact! My problem is that the game becomes a bit easy once you've got Daedric gear.

I'm not sure why nobody's mentioning it, but I find your voice so interesting, and it's really fitting your content. To be honest, I'd love to see you doing voice acting in some PC game one day.

Don't do this quest until you have the staff of worms and staff of corruption. You can get the emperors robe up until this quest

dispite this guys short screen time he's a memorable braggart and smack talker. it's neat that you encounter two of his ancestors in Skyrim with one living in Riften selling cheap priced mead behind Maven's back which honestly doesn't seem so bad since no one likes the greedy and corrupt Maven anyways and another being a random encounter after the Atherium quest line is finished too bad he tries to kill you to cover his lies though not cool
