we need a real reentry mission if msfs 2024 from outer space like 3 million feet or sum, using the real tactics in the real mission like 30 or something degrees aoa while banked to the left or to the right to steer and slow down... that would be so cool

The reason the landing gear isn’t too complex is because there are no hydraulics on the landing gear. The landing gear switch inside the cockpit releases a mechanical mechanism that opens the doors and the gear just drop down due to gravity. That’s also why they deploy so quickly. The landing gear had to be manually shut after landing if it was to be flown again.

That's the Captain Sim quality I remember from fs2004 and fsx. They had a few really realistic aircraft back then that they failed to properly port to this sim. They are finally catching up and going back to their roots in terms of quality.

Looks like they ported over a lot of the code from Shuttle Simulator, which came out around 2016. Read up a bit, and you'll learn how to turn on the HUD and flight computer information. Then you can easily follow the information on the HUD from the FL500 mark to land it like a pro. Amazing what spending less than 10 minutes of research and reading will do to make things better.

Space shuttle reentry is the process by which a space shuttle re-enters Earth's atmosphere after a mission. During reentry, the shuttle experiences intense heat and friction from the atmosphere, which can damage the shuttle if not managed properly. Aerobraking is a spaceflight technique that uses a planet's atmosphere to slow down a spacecraft. It's similar to how an airplane uses flaps and spoilers to slow down before landing. S-Turn: Usually not required, but the shuttle will perform S-turns if it is too high on energy at the start of TAEM (too high, or too close to the runway). Acquisition: Turns the orbiter towards a point of tangency on the heading alignment cone (HAC) and then flys wings-level until it intercepts the HAC. The tangency point is referred to as "waypoint 1" (WP1). During this phase, the orbiter slows to below Mach 1, at which point the commander takes CSS (control-stick steering), which is the closest thing the shuttle has to a "manual" mode. Heading Alignment: Guides the orbiter around a virtual "cone" until it is in alignment with the runway. It's not really a cone, mathematically speaking, but it's the easiest way to visualize it. Prefinal: Establishes the orbiter on the outer glide slope. The final guidance phase is called "Approach and Landing". It begins when the orbiter is below 10,000 feet and established on the outer glide slope (OGS), but no later than 5000 feet regardless of glide slope.

8:55 thats the docking adapter. It connects to the main airlock of the shuttle and allows it to dock with the international space station, or formerly the Mir space station. It can be removed in order to accomodate sattelites or habitats like spacelab. 10:11 the tiles are made of silica. A highly heat resistant material made of 90% air. It can whistand temperatures up to 8k degrees. Each shuttle had 24k+ tiles that each had to be individually custom made and differed from shuttle to shuttle. The white sections are covered in a nomax felt fabric blanket, which acts more as an insulator from the temperature dhanges on orbit. The nose and leading edge of the wings are covered in reenforced carbon carbon panels that are even more heat resistant, but insanely fragile and, when one panel was damaged in 2003, it leas to the loss of the orbiter columbia. Coincidently, columbia is the orgiter modelled in the game Im a self proclaimed shuttle expert, go ahead and ask me any questions you may have

As I recall for the final descent and landing phase of flight it should be around 300kts and 10k fpm descent rate for approach maneuvering then start to flare slowly at about 1000 feet AGL for touchdown at about 210-220 kts. As for the control stick at the aft cabin windows, I think that is an OMS (orbital maneuvering system) control so they can pilot the shuttle from there with a view of the docking collar for docking to the space station or to form up on a satellite for arm capture since the pilot cannot see that for a visual approach from the flight deck.
@Potatoincanada201
@Potatoincanada201 12 күн бұрын
The thing about first approach was you weren’t too high or too low. You we’re supposed to approach that high in a space shuttle in real life so that you won’t stall out and crash and you were approaching quite quick, the space shuttle is meant to approach at 100 m/s2 (space units of measurement lol). There’s also tons of instruments since you can hardly see anything and also since you can’t VFR fly in space. Your also kind of meant to set speed brake to around 50% or where you can maintain airspeed. Also, Swiss001 reviewed this, it was Captain Sim who made it.

With the speed that the shuttle has, normally at that altitude and distance from KSC the shuttle should be at mach 2, 3 or 4 I think so you can reach the landing site, then also is pretty common that a few moments before landing you hear the typical twin sonic boom so obviously the shuttle is too slow at the moment that you start the sim.

@AaronRheins. Re-entry approach for shuttle landing is extremely high on purpose due to shuttle being under no power through the entire re-entry process. At roughly $7 billion dollars per shuttle the cost of losing a shuttle for under shooting the runway is too high! Also the runway is incredibly long at 15001 feet to compensate for speed, weight, and angle of attack.
