what an awesome video dude!! i genuinely really enjoyed this style of devlog and i can’t wait to see the next so i subbed!! personally, the more choice im given in a game the better (IMO) but sometimes i like a story to steadily guide me for more casual play so finding a balance between those 2 would be awesome, however completely crafting your own story in a play through would feel amazing! also i’m interested to know what art style your aiming for! i absolutely love pixel art and when done right i really like it adds so much character to game!!

thank you so much for a detailed and kind comment! Without spoiling too much, I'm really excited about the idea and it's getting me really pumped to build/share! In terms of art, I'm also a sucker for a good pixel art style games, so maybe there's a chance that's what I will end up going towards. There's a feel of nostalgia, but not only that some games are actually enhanced experience due to its stylistic pixel art!

Also, a great game I have been playing through is chained echoes, the story is excellent and I think its rooted in great character development as well as a story that grows in size. You want the player to start off as something small and relatable (think cloud in FF7) he started off a small time mercenary, and then the world slowly increases in size, shinra destroying the world, sephiroth etc.
@ezthedev
@ezthedev Жыл бұрын
Starting small and relatable! That makes a lot of sense!

Glad to see getting stuck while starting out in game dev, specially when you are passionate about it, being normalised. Its a form of art so it can be very difficult to make creative choices.

My favorite RPGs are Skyrim, Red Dead 2, and witcher 3. I wish there had been more choices in all 3 that directy affected the story, but it was still magical playing them that first playthrough.

I like it when the story is told through the game, and not through voice over, or a narrator saying x, y, or z. Of course there are exceptions. Little Misfortune is an exception, which I can say I am not against. However, they put a little thought by bringing the narrator as a character. I think its best if narrative are conveyed through art, and design of the game. Hey man, good luck with your journey.
@ezthedev

Omg I agree! My favorite play moments are when I discover story and narrative intrinsically without being forced to "stay and hear a while" lol. I've been seeing a lot of miss fortune videos and that does seem pretty fun but yea. Thank you!

Game programming compensation is huge different from big tech companies. There is no much job security in the game programming since a lot of young people want to do it. The game software engineers are usually under appreciated. Better to do some research to Jump ship. Many want to jump from Game programming to big techs.

Witcher 3 is the best game in history of games, played it when i was 16. Everything what i used to enojy in a game (haven´t played nothing for over 2 years now) usually relies in the amount of connection you build with the characters & the story, everything else is secodary in my opinion. Cheers!

A friend of mine spent several years building a game and the game wasn't successful. What he got out of it is that he became a better programmer and got himself a better job. What are you going to get out of it if the game won't be a success? Also, are you prepared to spend several years on it?
@ezthedev
@ezthedev Жыл бұрын
For now, I'm just doing it for the fun of going through the creative process. I feel it more akin to writing a novel.. yes, not exactly useful in the action itself and maybe the product (success or not). However, I would have learned different field of programming (I've already done enterprise software engineering), so it wouldn't be a completely waste of time! thanks for asking.
