Those ramps and do-dads might I suggest white graphite powder a graphite-based lubricant in applications where dust and dirt and friction are a problem and will not attract the dust.

The jewels limit was introduced in the US mainly to protect Timex, who produced some very inexpensive (non-jewel) watches domestically.

I just fixed one of these up this week. I used equivalent LEDs that plug right in to the lamp sockets, extra bright ones with a frosted lens. If sticking with regular lamps you can also use 555 lamps instead of 259, they are about 50% brighter but both have the same rated lifespan.

Blast from the past. I remember tearing one of these apart as a kid to see how it worked inside. LOL I was already doing it digitally. You should consider making your own mechanical clock design. 3D print the parts.

There are no 3D printers among my horologist colleagues at the Phactory.

1. Someone actually dreamed up this mechanism - perhaps after they retired from their job as an automaton designer? 2. A company took this design to manufacturing, and it's not just a 1-off from someone's lab. 3. I wonder what life was like on the assembly line?!

It is possible that the display quality will improve after a few days running. Do not underestimate the genius of the designers of the mechanism. They were clearly working in all four dimensions.

The Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States specifies the rate of import duty (i.e. tax) on clocks and watches depending on the number of jewels. In addition it requires all watches and clocks imported to the United States to be indelibly marked with the number of jewels, plus other information.

Many ways to take something apart, it only goes back together one correct way. I hope you took many pictures, reminds me of how windup clocks are assembled to work with all the gears. Right now you have a telechron digital clock kit!

Yep, Fran took at least 30 pictures every second during the entire process. 😉

@@FranLab sadly my preferred method of watching can't do voice to text after the fact. But I and other will have to try. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the audio is transcoded by KZbin anyway and just hidden from the public.

@@FranLab What about PTFE grease, oil? PTFE has a high molecular weight and is less likely to be absorbed. It also doesn't react with anything.
@mikebarushok536117 сағат бұрын
@@SkyfallLodge It's the carrier oil, usually synthetic, that's a potential issue. The PTFE (solid) can be perfectly inert while the liquid carrier (oil) damages the plastic. Nylon is usually compatible, while other polymers are trial and error.
