Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Nathan u must be living in a glass globe with your field locations,when 30 to 60 miles around u are inundated with excessively wet conditions,to the point there stopped or not even started over ten inches of rain around Toledo areas in the last 6 weeks! U been blessed more then others. Keep up the good work!

Kudos to Jack! My phone hasn't been out of the house in several months. Honestly I wouldn't own 1 if the wife didn't insist. I went places for years before there were such things and feel zero need to talk or text while I am out and about.

South of Ft. Wayne, saw two guys side dressing. Corn looked to be about 1" - 2" tall. Seemed a bit early, but if they got a lot of ground to cover, than got to get it done.

Have you seen what the 6th gen farmer has on his planter to help with compaction. He can lower the pressure in the planter tires to lessen compaction. He seems really happy with it.

I believe Deere has a PIP for those seats. Currently the sensors are wired in series and the new seat bottoms are wired in parallel so you only need one of the sensors depressed for it to work properly.

For your vac pressure check the rows where the sensors are there is a little white hose if you take that off and make sure it’s clean and can get air through it. We had the same issue and cleaned those out and everything worked

On our planter I had half the tiny sensor hole plugged with hard dirt and would have the same issues with our planter. Worth a shot to take a look if it’s a quick fix

I am very curious about something.... So you have a high speed 60ft corn planter and Phil has a non high speed 40ft planter. So my question is how did you and Phil get done at the same time? I am also assuming both of y'all plant on the same days. Does he put in longer hours? Or are there less bean acers because of wheat?
@BorderViewFarms
@BorderViewFarms Ай бұрын
It's a combination of things. He had less acres both because we have a few less acres of beans and also had some planted in March. He can load much faster than I can and kept the bean planter moving a lot more. There was also a day or two that was fit to plant beans but not corn.

Does the results from plots like yours count toward the "official" stats for a hybrid?
@BorderViewFarms
@BorderViewFarms Ай бұрын
It's a data point on the evaluation but these hybrids are all past the point of "Are we going to sell them or not." It more which hybrids work in our area.
