Thanks for this video. It's just what I was looking for. I just ordered a kit from GRS.

Have the GRS version which I believe is a collaboration with Stefan B. Put this on my Joust Legacy. Well worth the investment. I added a hole for the two way button. Really love this set up.

I may have to do this for my AtGames Ultimate Legends cabinet. 4 way games like Ms. Pacman are no fun on that cabinet (i usually stick to the A1U Head to Head for that game). The button with different LED color indicator based on 4-way vs. 8-way position is very cool. But I'm wondering if there will ultimately be an option / solution for "automatic switching" based on game selection. That would be incredible.

Ya this is a big improvement on the alu. Agree 4 way games are terrible on that cab

Since the recording of the video, there was a firmware update for the controller that supports advanced functionality, especially regarding the ability to replace Player-1 and Player-2 buttons to empty up an existing button hole: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp6ren2VaamfjJo

I sent you an email to your youtube email. I don't use Facebook and was wondering if you are still selling these kits.

Hello, probably a super dumb question, but what extra long ribbon cable did you use for the push button, (is it a 5 pin), how long is it & where did you get/purchase it from? Thank you
@UnqualifiedCritics3 жыл бұрын
Sourced it from the guy who created this - I don't recall the length but at least 3 feet iirc

My thinking is this when it comes to the Burgertime cabinet, treat it entirely as a two game cabinet (Burgertime and Karate Champ) only. Leave the joystick gates always in 4 way triangular configuration. That way you can play Burgertime and Karate Champ which are actual vertical games as opposed to the other two games which are horizontal games and should never have been placed on the cabinet in the first place!

Good point but I do like Bad dudes and don't mind Caveman Ninja so I wanted to play em all proper

GRS has picked up the product. But you could replace the button with TTP223 Capacitive Touch Switches and leds. It will work through 1/8" Acrylic. It has either toggle on/off or temp on/off mode and, default state of either on or off when first powered. Looks like his double tact switch has sw1 & sw2 connected to Gnd plus two LEDs one on Gnd and other on +5v and both wired to LED which flips from Hi to Lo activating one or the other color LED. You can use two LEDs like he did or use a Bi-color LED (common cathode) and a transistor NOT gate (NPN) and maybe a second NPN transistor if the on state LED is not bright enough (act like a on/off switch). I doubt he would be using WS2812B LEDs. Or do a simple logic probe with a cd4011 Quad-NAND ic or cd4049 Hex-NOT ic with 2 560Ω 1/8W resistors and, 2 LEDs or Bi-color (common cathode). Or SMD surface mount fun - SN74AHC1G04 Sgl-NOT ic, 2 560Ω 1/5W 0804 resistors, 2 LEDs - Red 0805 LED (1.9V drop), Grn 0805 LED (2.1V drop). LEDs will pull 5-6mA from the IC which has 8mA sink current, attached to a SOT23 MSOP10 board. 0804 & 0805 are 0.080" or 2mm components, ic will be 3-4 mm.

Thanks for sharing. This is really enterprising solution. Impressive. Been trying to imagine a similar mod to switch a 4-way stick back-and-forth between a traditional cross orientation and a diagonal orientation for proper Q*bert gameplay. I want to build my own Q*bert A1up cab but only know how to install the game via a pi that would have so many other games that don't use a diagonal stick.
@UnqualifiedCritics4 жыл бұрын
god I love Qbert
@lonster30004 жыл бұрын
No rule that says you *have* to add a ton of games with a pi. Heck I bet you could install Qbert and retro pie on a pi zero for not much $$ if you wanted a dedicated Qbert cabinet.
@wyn87584 жыл бұрын
@@lonster3000 You're right, of course, no rule... Truth is, I'm a noob with retro gaming mods. What I'm most interested in is just the cleanest presentation of a Q*bert countercade that I can build - not sure if that means a pi, or if I can/should use an actual PCB (though that may mean more money than I want to spend)... Still learning/making my plans for the full build. But I'm going after it
@lonster30004 жыл бұрын
Wicket Yub Nubs I hear you, I have 2 Arcade1up cabs and a countercade but when it comes to modding them I have big plans but so far I am all talk no action lol. Good luck, if you succeed you will have a unique cabinet.

This is cool, how much does it cost?

I think around 25 for the kit. You have to contact to tinkering on steroids to purchase, he doesn't have a store or anything

How hard are these to install for someone who isn’t the best with tech and wiring and stuff. This would be great for my TMNT modded cab to go from like Pac-Man to burger time to MK or fighting games. But I worry I won’t be able to figure it out lol. Also what the cost of the kit?
@UnqualifiedCritics4 жыл бұрын
Extremely easy to install, just like swapping in any other restrictor gates and plugging it in. If you decide to drill for a new button then that would be the hardest part, although also easy, and that's optional. Not sure the price, ask Tinkering On Steroids here in the comments (he's the inventor)

OR you can use a Ultra Magstick Plus witch switches between 4 and 8 way but pulling up on the stick No power needed.

Put the buttons on the j panel.. its easier to cut through , and out of the way....I put 6 buttons on the j panel of my Space Invaders ... Just wired up a coin button today...

good recommendation. Id def pick J panel over the control panel

WASTE of money 💰. BRUH... broke my high today... 57,800! Oh and with octagonal gates on a 4-way game 😉 How do I send you screenshots? I can send my Frogger screenshots as well - my current high there is 12,370. Just might break that one tonight as well.
@UnqualifiedCritics4 жыл бұрын
I don't question you're good at the game my dude but I'll never be happy with a (non multicade) arcade with non dedicated controls
@rickhoes63264 жыл бұрын
@@UnqualifiedCritics That's just the point my dude, I'm no BurgerTime or Frogger pro by any means. I'm just an average player that can hit the high scores because the controls are indeed accurate. 8-way octagonal gates work! They certainly do allow for 4-way games to play comfortably and accurately along with 8-way games in the same cab. If you feel better spending the extra money on unnecessary devices, that's certainly your choice but the controls aren't broken in the first place. BurgerTime is just a tough game in its own right; I'll be interested to see how much better you'll score with your new toy?? You should do a comparison video detailing the performance. I have to admit it is a pretty cool device, it's just not necessary. You can simply replace the square with octagonal gates and save yourself some cash.
