I’m glad you noticed that Will’s dad would still be alive. He is cursed like the rest of them, so he is incapable of dying. But at the same time, since he is also unable to escape, he’s essentially perpetually sunk at the bottom of the sea, with the water pressure crushing down on his body. It must be excruciating. So in a way, Will breaking the curse is also a way to finally give his father peace.
@chuckrothans75354 ай бұрын
Yes 💯 But of course we know that he wasn't granted peace, because of a certain someone with a crab claw and a octopus beaded found him at the bottom of the ocean and offered him an escape from dying beneath the pressure of the ocean. 👀

Will is not a slave, he is an apprentice and back in those days you called your teacher for master
@liz8694 ай бұрын
So Will's not a slave, he's an apprentice. So when they are saying 'his master' they're talking about the man who is teaching him. Now apprentices were usually treated like shit so it wasn't an ideal situation but he was still considered a citizen. . There are a good number of female pirates and one of the most successful pirates, Zheng Yi Sao, took over her husbands fleet and wrecked havoc. . The Black Pearl has a history with Jack, its a little spoiler-y but you kinda find out about it in later movies. . Awesome reaction.

@kiaayo334 ай бұрын

That’s one of my favorite scenes in the film. It encapsulates who Captain Jack Sparrow is as a character so perfectly and is one of the few moments where he seems to let his walls down a bit and be more serious (there are other sparse moments throughout that achieve this really well). Hope you enjoy the others! In my opinion the first three are all on par with each other.

Bootstrap Bill Turner was a crew member during Jack's first rein as Captain of The Black Pearl. Commodore Norington was bound by duty to capture and hang Jack Sparrow, and any other pirate for their crimes. It wasn't a matter of he especially wanted to kill Jack. Same with Governor Swan. It was a matter of duty and principle. As Norington said "One good dead does not redeem a man for a lifetime of wickedness." Norington broke the rules about as much as he could for finally deciding to not immediately sail after Jack in the end. He gave him a head start... Because he had to admit Jack played a role in saving Elizabeth and stopping the crew of The Black Pearl... So while he was still obligated to go after him.. he cut him a little slack by giving him that head start.

NICE! Originally, before Johnny Depp was picked to play Jack Sparrow, Hugh Jackman, Michael Keaton, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken, Matthew McConaughey, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Rik Mayell, Bill Murray, Steve Martin, And Cary Elwes were considered for the character. Ben Peyton, Christian Bale, Tobey Maguire, Ewan McGregor, Heath Ledger, Jude Law, and Chris Masterson were considered for Will Turner. Jessica Alba, Amanda Bynes, and Jaimie Alexander were considered for Elizabeth Swann. Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film, but turned it down to make MINORITY REPORT and Catch Me If You Can, both released in 2002.

Quite a few pirates were black. And there are at least two women pirates on record, Anne Bonney and Mary Reade. Anne Bonney was the lover of the pirate captain Jack Sparrow seems to be based on -- Calico Jack Rackham -- who relied more on cleverness than violence and is said to have stolen a ship much the same way Jack and Will Turner do early in the film.

According to many sources (especially to writer Giles Milton), The character of Captain Jack Sparrow was based upon John “Jack” Ward (circa 1553 - 1622 CE) who was an English pirate who later changed his name to Yusuf Reis after accepting the religion of Islam and joining the Ottoman Empire whilst sailing for them as a Corsair during the early 17th century around the area of Tunis.

It always baffles me, the logic of Will Turner, when he finds out that his dad was a pirate, he says "I'm a pirate" in disgust. No... Your father was a pirate, not you. This is the same kind of mind games they like to play, grouping people together by bloodlines, not actions, to make the current generation feel guilty for the actions of their ancestors, as if it's their own sin. Yeah, it's good to learn from the past and not do bad things you know others did. It's stupid to feel guilty for things you didn't do yourself. This group pride crap is dumb and can never replace morality.
@a_fine_edition27464 ай бұрын
The thing is that Will has a very high image of his father for whatever reason. He was extremely hostile towards the idea that he could be some heartless rogue that Will believes pirates to be. He wants to hold onto the image of his father as a good man but he struggles the whole film to reconcile this with not only Bootstrap’s reputation as a pirate, but the fact that he left him and his mother.
