I just wanted to say, as seems evident from some of the comments you've made about why you're having your character act the way you are/why you're roleplay in some ways (especially with regards to Kim), I get the feeling you've received a bit of...maybe "pushback" isn't the right word, but surprise? about it from some viewers. I just want to say, that while I personally loved Kim from pretty early on, I 100% get where you're coming from- but more importantly, I'm genuinely enjoying the fact that you're making different choices than I did in my playthrough. I've watched maybe a half-dozen playthroughs of this game, and this might the most interesting ones! Definitely the most educational. So, yeah, I hope you don't worry too much about the fact that you're taking a different path than most people- that's a GOOD thing; it means its a new and fresh experience for us viewers. @bulletsandbracelets41409 ай бұрын
@@birdup1_2 that's the thing though - he's not playing a reasonable character! so his character's choices aren't the logical decisions you or I would follow, he's distrustful of Kim because he has baggage of his own he's working though. I really love how much he's rp'ing and how much insight he's giving the character from a psychological perspective. It's really similar to how I go into writing and a really fun way to engage with a character.
@sameerdodger9 ай бұрын
@@birdup1_2 But the MC is a dick? Brady is roleplaying how he thinks the MC would act based on the context the game has given him. If you woke up with amnesia like that I don't think you be open in arms to a guy that's just told you that you're a cop investigating a hanging? You don't even remember your name. Kim doesn't exactly have a 'warm' persona either, he's incredibly shut-off and only focuses on the job. Idk I think some of you folks are forgetting that you're playing this in the context of a video game. The game even gestures that Kim is important as the camera pans over from him when you first go downstairs. You wouldn't get any of that pretext irl. I think a lot of you have also finished the game too so you have that context which ofc Brady doesn't have, and even if he did he would play this ignoring that since he's trying to 'RP' the MC in order to psychoanalyse him.

I call displacement "Biting the Irish setter." Years ago, I had a fluffy little dog who would never bite a person. My roommate once picked her up at the vet to find her wearing an e-collar and he laughed at how she looked. She glared at him, then bit the goofy Irish setter standing next to her, who had done nothing.

It'd be boring if everyone played the same way. Especially a game like DE.
@MrMarlowe348810 ай бұрын
One of the great things about this game which you touched on is there's really no "min/maxing" unless you're seriously on your 10th playthrough and you want to engineer some specific set of circumstances like youre bill murray in groundhog day. Generally (with a few specific storyline white checks being the exception, and usually there's at least 2 options even there) whatever stat you put a point to, whatever thought you decide to internalize will just be "fine" and your main concern should just be roleplaying and figuring out what you think sounds neat. The thoughts are specifically vague about what they do once you internalize them on purpose and half the time it's not even the fact that they give you stat boosts, it's the fact that they unlock other dialogue trees you wouldn't even know about from reading the description. The stats themselves are essentially just a matter of "which voices in my head do I want talking to me more regularly"?

Which is why I recommend to experience the game with a lot of points in either Inland Empire, Shivers or Esprit de Corps. The rest of the skills enhance a viewpoint for Raphaël, how he thinks. But those three show conections, how he experiences the world. Also, Esprit de Corps helps you understand Kim better and how much he has your back.

It's kind of interesting learning about displacement in that way because I've always thought of it as "kicking the dog". Half-Light reminds me of that because if someone or something is stronger than your character or they hold some kind of power, Half-Light tends to act more cowardly and defensively. Meanwhile if it's an easier target (like a kid or a lady in a wheel chair) Half-Light will show (or feign) aggressiveness towards that person or thing because it knows it's a safer target to vent the frustration at.

About all the things you mentioned at 53:45 like redirecting emotions to safer targets, and it gave me an insight: i work with customer services in brazil and i end up the day sometimes with a lot of stress and anger that i end up redirecting not to someone else, but to myself in a lot of destructive ways. I never managed well the anger feeling, and i end up transforming it into deep sadness and depression. I think i have a lot of points spent in "Composure", as it says in it's description: "Composure makes you tuck your gut in and maintain a stern expression. Even lying in bed late night when no one else can see you, you’ll have to keep it up. You’ll never be able to stop" - i clearly related to that, and i use sublimation (as explained in 55:25) with weights. Gosh, things get blues pretty fast when i don't lift weights on a daily routine. Great game. Great channel. Thanks for the insights and laughs.

What you said about Authority and Garte redirecting his anger towards you is interesting. But also keep in mind, your Skills are very opinionated. They sometimes see the truth, but other times they see what they want to see. The higher the Skill, the more they think they are right during passive checks. Sometimes a check is Legendary not because it was hard to achieve, but because it was such a reach that only someone who is such an Authoritarian would think in such a way It is possible that Garte is mad at you because you deserve it, but Authority thinks that's unfair and clearly must have a different reason and is taking it out on you. That's the coolest part of this game: you can't always trust your Skills x)

It's so interesting how people's own experiences with trauma (not even necessarily their own) affect how they interact with Kim. For me I saw Kim as almost an authority figure who I wanted to win the approval of, all I wanted was to for him to be proud of me and to say it, even if just to me. That caused me jump head first into trusting him. I think that this and Brady's approach to Kim are completely equally canon. Harry's life could take him in either path.

So i just want to point two little things: It's okay not to say everything. The devs planned for people who exhaust every single dialogue option, and WILL use it against you if it makes sense. So role-playing "what will my character do" is acceptable and might even be optimal in some cases. But also: just because a dialogue three is greyed out doesn't mean there's nothing else worth saying. The game isn't multiple choice, pick one, choose your own adventure. Feel free to go back to a submenu and keep digging into the other options until you're satisfied about all the things you want to say or ask. A lot of streamers I've watched get stuck because they pick one choice and never think of going back to pick another one (like actually asking something you need to solve the case).

"It's much more natural for someone who's traumatized to actually push that person away..." This is something that came up with a character I RP as! More specifically, she suffered severe trauma as a child (and ended up running away from home and basically starting her life over), and a part of how that was reflected in her behavior was that she felt an immediate distrust and fear toward people who showed her unconditional love. Of course, as a fictional character in an action-oriented story, she started interrogating that reaction much faster than the average person would. (It didn't help that she'd developed a coping mechanism of treating relationships as transactional--which was itself a reaction to her 'unconditional' relationships turning out to be harmful.)

I think Garte is not a safe target to retaliate though. Because he literally has the possibility to take away your shelter to some degree. I think he respects the law though and wouldnt let this happen anyways.

As someone who already completed the game I still find it extremely fun to watch other people blind playthroughs. And this one comes with some unique and interesting perspective as well! Can't wait for you to learn more about the world and characters, especially the protagonist.

Just an important thing, consider most of your actions on the game thoughtfully. For example, really consider if you want to take drugs as your character, even the most basic things can bring consequences further down the game. Also you dont need to do every dialogue option, sometimes you can say something that you didnt meant to say and change your relationship with the character you are talking to. But also, you can miss an important thing. Play the game with the mentality of saying things that you meant to say or ask

Very interesting what thoughts you come to on the Thought Cabinet mechanic, because for me it was very conceptually interesting. Short version: I enjoyed researching a thought, only to realize "you know what? This isn't helpful to me. I need to leave this behind and internalize something else."

Definitely going to give it some analytical attention soon, though I need to see more of how it works out in my playthrough first. So far, I'm very intrigued by it as a game mechanic.

Careful with the gun, Harry is that type of a person who would threaten to commit suicide to get what he wants.

kind of sad watching this knowing how pushing kim affects the game / your interactions with him (the game really does gauge his regard for you and a good relationship with kim feels rewarding) but it's also something that happens irl with this sort of thing. Turns out sabotaging your relationships....... actually sabotages your relationships

As a few others have said, they way you describe your character sounds a lot like half light.

Definitely put more points in authority. I think it will fit your characters insecurities well.

It's always fascinating how different stats give you different dialogue for the Detective, which let's you solve the problems in the game in really unique ways. I never get good advise from Authority.

Kim gives you responsibility so early on in the game because your character has a higher police rank than him. Kim knows this but you seemed to have forgotten that. So its a simple reason, not so psychological at the beginning of the game (from Kim's point of view).

How about we don't spoil things to the streamer that the game will tell them in time? I really don't get this. - Like, at this point in the playthrough, it is intended for the player to not be aware of certain things.
@nightowl95129 ай бұрын
Its not a spoiler in any meaningful sense at all, not tied in to the story. It rather just saves Brady some time and not theorising when there's no reason to @@doe2226

I'd say 'The past of the character' is one of the major mysteries of the game. And thinking about it and figuring it out was a major source of fun for me. Not sure why you wouldn't want him to have some ideas about why things are how they are.
@nightowl95129 ай бұрын
So that part is such a minute detail in the cop's past that it's not really "the past" in any sort of meaningful way. There are zero emotional implications, and the story doesn't progress differently whether you know this to be true or not. I'm with you on not spoiling deeper stuff that you indeed *can* make choices about, stuff that affects the game. But this detail? hmm... well... i find it too small to be of any real impact in the grand scheme of things...

Hello! I'm here because ofc i can't comment on the log of the stream lol, but i'm seeing how you explain how you "push" people to the psycholocial work zone. I just wanted to talk about myself for a while lol, i think my last therapist tried to do that, but she kept on going to the point that every time, without fail, I had to go on walks to try and cry it out to calm down before I got home/ to work. So i guess it's VERY hard to get to that work zone without, yk, making the situation worse lol. I stopped going after a while.
@eurobrady10 ай бұрын
Yeah, it is very hard indeed. Sometimes it is a very narrow zone and it's certainly possible to push too far past it. That's why it's important to check in frequently and make sure that we are either escalating the intensity less or trying a different approach. My way of explaining it is only one of many ways to practice, and it's not always the best one, especially if the subject is very sensitive or there isn't a lot of trust established with the client yet. I would not do this too early on in sessions for example.
@CAMI90239 ай бұрын
@@eurobrady It was a very interesting explanation, i couldnt help but comment on it, it's like now I have a different perspective about the situation. I usually don't watch twitch streams but your playthrough is very very interesting, fun and even makes me think about *my* stuff in a productive and retrospective way 😭 It's amazing, i'll try to be there next time!
