As an old timer I still think that India's win over the West Indies in 1974 is still an epochal moment. Centuries from the greats, Gundappa Viswanath and Sunil Gavaskar, enabled India to score the 406 to beat the mighty Clive Lloyd team. At that time, it was a new record for the highest ever successful fourth-innings' run chase in a test match.

I liked your idea that Australia could have made it a little more difficult for India to win - in short, showed more resistance in the fourth innings. Indeed. It could have made for more interesting cricket - especially for the Aussies and neutrals. I respect and admire your attempt to be as unbiased as you can be! I have two questions for you guys 1) Among my fellow Indian friends, there is an impression that Australia made a designer pitch - fast and furious - to annihilate India but ended up being the one to be humbled. Is it true that the Optus pitch was made to be so or is it the natural pace of the pitch? I know in the 1970s, WACA was the fastest turf in the world but gradually it lost its unique character and slowed down considerably. So what about Optus? 2) Wasn't it a bit daft to let Nathan McSweeney take strike against Bumrah in the second dig whereas a senior like Khawaja ought to have taken the responsibility? (You have expressed similar sentiments in this podcast but) I would like you to let us understand what might have been the reason or thought process behind such a quirky move?

Wasn’t the Hobart pitch a contrast to this pitch? There was nothing happening when Head was blazing hot! But do not worry, our 38 year old captain is coming back to screw the top order and undermine the captaincy. It will be 20-21, only in reverse. Get a spine, invest in youth and give players who have performed well a chance to keep doing that. Slot yourself in the middle order and play Reddy and Rana.

Australia don't have batters. The once they have in the team are past their prime. There is no replacement in site. 1. Khawaja ~37 2. Marnus Labuschagne - doesn't look like scoring any run and can't be replaced. 3.Steven Smith ~ 35 (Avg in 2024 - 25.55) 4. Nobody equipped to handle the number 2 slot. The famed 4 ballers attack have not been able to win a series against India in last 10 years. They are getting old 1. Josh Hazlewood ~34 2. Mitchell Starc ~35 3. Lyon ~37 Australia is managing for now. Had there been replacements available they would have been in the squad. Two years down this team is going to struggle to put up an 11.

Australia is in for a lot of pain, the top four are shocking, McSweeney has no chance when the other three not performing, Smith does not look good and is in decline, Khawajas time is up and cannot handle pace anymore, he’s 38, Labuschagne has run out of ideas, 2 off 52 balls, then leaves a straight ball. The absence of Green is hurting big time, Australias depth in batting is almost non existence. Take a monumental effort to win the series from here and then we have The Ashes next season, England will be excited to knock us over. Cannot play Cummins, Hazelwood and Starc in same team now. Bite the bullet and give someone like Morris a go NOW. Cummins was underdone, should have played a Shield game but he does not like to play those games. It’s a worry.

The current selectors have shown a reluctance to make hard decisions, McDonald just wants to be everyones friend with unwarranted optimism to the point of delusion. To wait for any change means throwing the series away, good luck coming back from 2-0. India's bowlers will be difficult with the pink ball so our usual baked in victory is certainly not certain. Khawaja is in decline, so is Smith, Labuschagne totally out of form and Marsh still living off the heroics of a couple of innings in England. Yes a great bowling group but we still need runs. Loyalty is a great quality until it isn't. Bring in an opener, probably Harris, McSweeny at 3 at the very least, drop LAB.

One moment for Indian cricket fans to savor - in last 4 test matches played in Australia - India is 3-0 (1 draw in Sydney). In last pink test - India had 53 runs lead that was after Rahane ran out Kohli in 1st innings when Kohli was looking so comfortable. Ok that freakish 36 all out happened in second innings but India had the upper hand for majority part of that game. Can't wait for Adelaide.
