Jeff is 100 percent correct. You should actually set aside savings off the top of your monthly income. Anyone who owns a home should set aside money monthly to accumulate a nest egg for repairs and maintenance. Every home will require maintenance. Jordan, you should be grateful for a financially responsible husband and father to your kids.

Okay, Jordan, I preface my comment with "I love you both very much." You are so honest and loving in your presence. Thank you. With that said, I am a 73 year old woman with LOTS of life experience, much of it spent with a similar outlook as Jordan with LOTS less success in life. First of all, I do NOT side with Jordan, but with you both, and with what you insult your husband as "boring" which is actually wise and capable leadership qualities. Shame on you, Jordan, for disrespecting your husband in this way. You won't hear me,, as you will just take me as insulting to you, but I have been where you are. I have squandered much of my lifetime fortune with an attitude like yours. The sooner you come to your senses and stop seeing wisdom as boringness the more successful and happy you BOTH will be. I agree completely with Jeff on the white rug.... pretty in pictures but an unwise choice in actuality. The alcohol is a very real issue. Again, I was there. But in hindsight, I know that every great time I've ever had was without alcohol. You aren't cute with it, but foolish. So was I. I hope you wake up to that fact earlier than I did. I know you both will agree with me that "Winners do things losers hate to do." Sincerely, I hope you wake up, Jordan. Jeff is so loving and wants you to be safe, happy, and successful. There are voices that will try to convince you that's boring. Those voices are LYING to you. Again, Jordan, you are a gem, and you have a gem of a husband. I pray for both of you, but you are so wrong that "all" the women will be on your side. Nope, I'm with Jeff on finances.... Oh, and when it comes to how much each person contributes to the success of a marriage, it will always feel like you are giving 100 % and the other person is only givng maybe 40%... that's because we see more of what we do because we live in our bodies and only touch the presence of others, even our husbands. So, when it comes to marriage, we have to approach it from a position of strength and an attitude of service and giving, or we will be so terribly disillusioned. Maturity is a good thing, but the world will tell you it's boring and old person stuff. The world is LYING to you when it gives you that message. I say all this not to insult you, but out of love for you that you could achieve your potential for the beautiful people, couple, marriage that you are. All the best to you both.

I’m catching up on all your podcasts. I have been married for over 30 years and I totally agree with Jeff. My husband is the one that will spend and I’m the saver. We have our finances together, which pays bills, etc., etc… But we also have a savings for unexpected things and just to save. I am a huge believer in saving for a rainy day but I don’t believe in just doing without because you don’t want to spend a dollar on anything. About the birthday party- Buy his class some cupcakes and take them to school to celebrate his birthday. Boom you’re done ✅ you don’t have to have a huge party. Plus you don’t have to go to one. Lol

Sorry Jordan, I'm another agreeing with Jeff. We've been married 33 years and have never ever argued about money. We have always had our own accounts and a house account. We have shared all the bills 50/50. We figured out how much our monthly expenses were plus 10% extra for repairs, etc. and we use the house account for that. We use our own accounts for our personal expenses and if I wanted a white outdoor rug, that would be my expense lol. At one point we had 2 years left on our mortgage and my husband paid it off as he made quite a bit more then me and no I didn't have to pay him back! This system has worked well for us. You both need to sit down and figure out what will work for you. Usually your bank will have a financial planner that can help too. Good luck.

I’m a woman. Married 42 years. We’ve raised two boys on one income (when I did work, it wasn’t for our budget but was used for family travel and extra activities for our boys and our family). I think Jeff is on right track. You can’t spend more than you bring in. If at minimum you have to break even each month. I’m quite the opposite of Jordan. I LOVE to save money. Birthday parties. In a lot of schools they have rules that kids can’t send invites via school unless every student is invited. Love your honesty. Keep talking.

States with zero state income taxes: Alaska, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, and Florida. You're welcome! AND I 100% agree with Jeff. No offense, Jordan, I love you, but after being a single mom after my ex-husband passed away, I learned real quick to have the finer things for a fraction of the price. And I haven't had my nails done or hair done by a professional in years and DON'T miss it one bit! I can do my own hair and nails and it looks much better. If you need to adjust slowly, then that's fine, but definitely change your perspective. You can do it, Jordan. Because, God forbid if something were to happen and you couldn't live as you once did. If you get ahead of it now, you'll be better than just okay. PLUS the Bible does speak about a woman whose price is far above Rubies. I love that chapter in the Bible and it helped to change my perspective ❤😊😊😊

So with the finances I do have to say you both are right. It is very important to save for emergency money, but it is also important for a few times a month to spoil yourselves. Whether that's buying furniture, clothes or Going Out on a date. But let me tell you anything that goes outside. You don't want to spend too much because if you live with boys, it will get automatically ruined. Or even the weather could ruin something very beautiful. So I would just try to find something that's similar but more cost friendly. I've been trying to teach my other half to save. Because if we're an emergency of something needing to be fixed or even the roof being done, it can happen. So in my opinion you both are right.

I have to say I totally agree with Jeff. 100%. Yes, everything is going up. All the more reason to save money for a rainy day when repairs come up. You should always save a certain percentage each month for house maintenance, save a certain amount for savings, monthly bills amount, miscellaneous spontaneous amount. You truly can’t just SHUT down and not want to have a discussion and close the door. Definitely shouldn’t be your money and your money. Lol. But hey if it works for you. And Jeff is correct with the schools. The whole class has to get an invitation from class rooms. You can’t give certain kids an invite. They are more concerned with kids being hurt feelings. Jordan and Jeff love your pod cost. Jordan you are very brutal and. Jeff is very kind hearted with peoples feelings. Love you both. You two are cute together.

I agree with the majority here. Savings is a must, not just for occasional emergencies like the hot water heater or car repairs, but for future financial security. Life insurance is a must especially if you have children. You should put as much as you can afford into an IRA or other annuity for when you retire. A good health insurance policy to cover the family with affordable co-pays. I am retired and put as the maximum allowable into my teacher retirement system, which was matched by my employer. I thought I would have plenty of extra money when I retired. Not so. Everything is so much more expensive now than when I was working.

Jordon I love you to death, but Jeff is right on those finances. Totally understand about wanting a clean house, especially after being sick. However, Jeff is right about saving that money. It sounds like he’s being tight but he’s definitely doing it for a good reason. You have to have that emergency fund. You HAVE to! With owning a home, you never know when you’re going to have multiple things break all at once. One day it could be your washer or dryer then the next it could be your furnace or like he said garage door God forbid if you have a basement finished or unfinished, you could have a flood depending on where you live, then, of course, there’s always car issues for everyone. You gotta have that money Tucked away. Finances is definitely one of those topics that is tricky for most couples, whether you share finances or not. On another note… Are you kidding!? School starts next week for the kids? Wow I remember the days of never having to go back to school until after Labor Day. It was usually September 3 or fourth but it feels like kids start back earlier and earlier each year. On another note… I absolutely love all the extra inside scoop on big brother and what it’s like before you go into the house! Thanks for sharing!

Okay, so Jordan I get it that you had to have a sanitizing crew come in to clean. I also get that you do all the cleaning, laundry ect. I also do all those things. I can say though financially if it's not affordable, then we have to do it ourselves. Even when we had covid and past the contagious phase, I had to sanitize and sterilize everything myself because it wasn't affordable for us to have someone come in. I do agree with Jeff, if your money going out is more than is coming in then it's time to see what spending needs to be stopped to find balance for the budget. I do understand, though, being tired of doing all the cleaning ect. Rather than hiring someone and so Jeff understands how much work it is, split the housework every week for each days tasks to be done. I believe he will see it much differently when he is doing housework on the daily as well. 😂

Yay for another podcast! I mostly agree with Jeff on the savings.. although I do understand (being a stay at home mom to 3 young boys myself) how tiring it can be. Especially with all the sicknesses going around. My husband and I have been together almost 20 years, and married 15. All our finances are shared. We have a joint account all the money goes into, and then a saving we put money into each pay. Anytime either of us want to buy something, it comes from the joint account. We both can see how much money we have available to spend. This way we are both responsible for the spending and savings of our household. We're a team.

I am obsessive about our finances and never find it boring. I highly recommend Dave Ramsey, ya'll need an emergency fund and sinking funds to deal with these things so you're not in crisis mode if something happens, it takes so much stress off knowing that there is money allocated for what you need and/or surprises. And for us, it's imperative we have a healthy emergency fund because my husband is the only one who brings in an income so if something happens to his job we need to make sure there's a cushion to support us and the four kids for a sec.

the birthday party solution is don't give out the invitations at school!! Have your child say who their favorite classmates are and mail their invites. And Jordan I hope you at least RSVP No before you toss the invitation in the trash!! Another idea is only allow the child to invite however many years old they are OR let them invite one friend to go with you all on your trip. I always had my kids birthday party at a hotel with a pool - get connecting rooms - order pizza and leave a nice tip for the housekeeping person!
