This hit home. My mother went into a nursing home due to multiple strokes and TIAs in 2007. She never left, dying in hospice in 2021. We moved to Virginia in 2007. She NEVER saw our house, and more tragically, my two younger sons never knew their brilliant grandmother (HS grad at 15, Bachelor's at 17, Master's at 18) as anything other than the dysfunctional old lady they had to visit on holidays. 😥 I now do everything and anything I can outside of work to fill life up as I'm acutely aware that, at 65, every day is a present.

This is a very good subject to cover as I do suffer from financial anxiety daily but it is a part of what keeps me focused on the end game. I am very good at math and almost to a fault I constantly run numbers in my head as the anxiety lies beneath the surface. I know I have planned well and done so for many years. The time is fast approaching and I know I will be ready. If you don’t suffer from financial anxiety then you are very lucky. If you do, like most of us I would use it as a positive tool and not a negative. Stay sharp and stay confident while maintaining focus. Believe in yourself because one day you will be able to look back with pride of what you have accomplished. > A bit long winded so thanks for reading and thank you Julie for sharing. 🌹👍🏻

I divorced at 47. Thankful to have a new start. Worked a ton of overtime. Paid down mortgage and bought a new to me car. Threw extra into 401k and savings. I had to go out at 54, both hands and elbows needed surgeries. My doctor urged me to consider retiring early - I couldn't go back to return to the job I was doing. **** Retirement is great! I was scared at first, but once I looked at my numbers, I realized I could definitely retire early. Being acutely aware of expenditures and where to scale back is instrumental. I'm able to take mom (88) every week for errands and lunch. (If I had remained married, I'd still be working until 70, maybe - ex was compelled to keep up with the Jones')

I really enjoy your way of communicating such important topics. I retired at 55 from a pretty good engineering technical career. Been retired for 5 months. I was worried about boredom and loss of identity. So far I have kept busy with recreational activities with my wife. We joined a few sports leagues together. Instead of hiring contractors to do required maintenance in our house, I have decided to do some of the work myself to safe a few dollars and stay busy with projects around the house. The retirement portfolio has gone down a bit, but I am not too concerned yet. I waited until January to start withdrawals from my investment account. My wife and I are looking forward to a Mexico winter getaway during this winter. It has been difficult to switch from savings to spending mode.

I’m actually backwards planning like my lesson plans for when I teach. First I’m calculating my spending in my retirement years. Then, I’ll work backwards to plan how I’m going to fund it with teacher pensions, investments, and part time jobs during retirement. KZbin will be one of my retirement income streams. I have three channels and those will keep me busy during retirement. 😂😂😂 I have a camera tech channel, that’s already monetized. A fishing channel that not monetized yet with 2K subs. And, my gardening channel. I’ll have plenty to do during retirement income streams. I’m planning to live off of dividends too. Are you on the 4% rule?

I planned so long for my retirement but yet didn't really look too far into the future after I retired. I was just so ready to jump ship because I felt my job was killing me (healthwise) and I was sick of so many changes at work but no training for it. I was also tired of the favoritism to younger people who could careless about the company and didn't feel like I was treated like I mattered. I thought I had about 2 years worth of living expenses saved up and I guess I thought I would worry about finances after 2 years. Of course I had 401k and investments but I really didn't think about how I would use that money. I love being retired and don't regret it for a minute but I also find myself worrying about money and health and the future of the country. I just think I have more time to worry. I'm pretty sure I'm financially ok but then, how do I really know. I have spent more money than I ever thought I would spend and I am a very frugal person...this is due to inflation. But I 100 percent agree about health and tomorrow and know I did the right thing. I would say if you retire earlier than 65 it's always nice to maybe have a part time job if possible.
