Ironically the best way to illegally not pay tax on a small transaction has been paying with good old paper money and always has been. Tons of tradesmen I know get away with being paid cash only on the sneaky weekend jobs. If you buy crypto with your bank account/card there's at least a receipt for it and record on your bank account, automatically made by a computer, probably more digital records on the end of whatever app or site you used...

@@subhroneelmoitra1895 allegedly, you can withdraw 4% from your investment every year, and the principle won’t drop. So, if you can save enough for retirement where you can live off of 4% per year, then you’re golden.
@sharknado5233 жыл бұрын
My favorite part of that Curtis Ray video is near the ending where he says "Don't believe me? Look up the 4% rule." All that means is that if you have a portfolio you can withdraw 4%/year for 30 years and generally speaking never run out of money if you invest in a diversified basket of stocks, mutual funds, ETFs, bonds, etc. etc., depending on allocation. For many people, between Social Security and 4% of their investments they'd be more than set in retirement. For the people for whom that would not be sufficient, the answer isn't freaking life insurance, so the point is moot

For the RE guy, you might also mention the elephant in the room: the Covid-caused eviction moratorium. Because they can't be evicted, many renters have stopped paying rent. Landlords still have their expenses, but are getting killed because they have no income from rent collections for the last year and a half. For every rental unit, they're losing thousands every month. No investment class is without risk.

The video at 6:15, I think he was talking about the sequence of returns and the fact that an average rate of return doesn’t accurately show what the outcome will be. So consider you have $1,000 in an account, the first year you earn a 50% rate of return now your account is at $1500. The next year, you lose 50% of your investment. In this example your average rate of return is 0% but your ACTUAL rate of return is -25%. That is because even though +50%-%50% is 0 but you’ve actually lost $250 of your original $1,000 investment.

To be clear, if you buy something (especially from an individual seller) using your personal crypto wallet (NOT a regulated exchange wallet), then no 1099s are generated / provided to the IRS. The IRS and other regulatory bodies are incapable of taxing p2p transactions over decentralized networks as long as funds are not subsequently transferred to a tax-reporting entity to "cash out." This is a p2p transaction, exactly as SN described in the white paper. DeFi platforms and smart contracts are growing rapidly and enable more and global p2p transactions, opportunities to earn yield in-kind, and get collateralized loans without triggering taxable events. Centralized exchanges are sort of a v1.0, self-defeating stage in the evolution of crypto, so to say crypto is "extremely taxable" is just plain wrong.

Can I then buy back in immediately after selling, and deduct the 100k loss on my taxes, even if bitcoin gains the 100k back by the end of the year and puts me at a net profit? I know this is not true with normal stocks and securities, but iv heard this does not yet apply to crypto because of lack of regulation and crypto law. Can you look into this and verify?

Crypto itself is not taxable. The thing is that people like to use exchanges which make things easier for them but are also centralized. If you use bitcoin and do not use an exchange you cannot be taxed because you are the only one that has access to your wallet. That being said I'm not saying that you should do it but it is an option.

If I am committing tax fraud, then the taxes I evade are avoided. Tax free. Really though, some of the TT tax advice is only relevant if you live somewhere else, other than the US. They confuse US tax laws with their local jurisdiction. For example, in Canada, prize winnings are tax exempt, dividends paid to non majority shareholders are 100% tax exempt, and non refundable tax credits are a thing. US taxes are very different from most of the world: the US tax code is only four pages long, followed by 10,000 pages of exemptions.
