Fifteen ships are at the shipyard. Mesabi Miner in the dry dock, American Spirit, Roger Blough long term, Cason J Callaway long term, Joseph L Block, Tug Albert, Wilfred Sykes, Herbert C Jackson, Mark W Barker under construction, Mary Ann Market, Tug Victory & Barge Maumee, John G Munson, John J Boland, Tug Clyde S Ban Enkevort & Barge Erie Trader, Tug Joyce L Van Enkevort & Barge Great Lakes Trader.
Also, Car Ferry Badger & Albert were in for a short-term inspection, painting, and maintenance.

I have delivered either heavy 6 oil or diesel fuel to almost every one of those boats during the shipping season. Got to deliver diesel to the American Spirit on the 4th of July this year. That was very cool. I go to Fincanteri early in year before to locks open to put fuel on thr boats so they are ready to leave and start the new season. Doesn't matter how many times I go to a boat, I am always awe struck at watching and looking at them. Very cool video

Really love the drone videos. Really would like definitive info on thr Blough. So many rumors from her being scrapped, to being repaired to her former iteration, to having her converted to a self unloader with the boom off the Munson. I personally don't think anybody knows what is really happening with her. When she was being built in In Lorain, Ohio my dad and I did a tour on her the day before the five workers were killed in the fire on her. In a way I have a personal connection to her.

Back in the days, 1950’s and earlier, the companies employed ship keepers. They were usually company employees that would reside on board during winter layup. They’d do minor maintenance. My next oldest brother did that one winter in Duluth. Do the fleets still do that?

"Springtime conditions this coming week" though not for Superior as of yet. Certainly Lake Michigan, Huron/Erie and Lake Ontario tho...massive amounts of electricity production en route therefore. Hopefully fully stocked of iron ore coking product therefore as banner production en route!

They let them freeze in, the hulls are strong enough to withstand that. They do have some areas that they have air running such as around the props or bow thrusters.

Apparently the economics of the 1k ships on the Lakes is starting to not make as much since, hence why the stopped building them 🤷‍♂️
