Robort Proctor I worked at Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay wI on a lot of these ships underneath the hopper doors their is a conveyer belt that runs from the bow to the stern this is one continuous belt and when it gets to the stern it makes a 90 and goes vertical when it goes vertical there is another opposing vertical belt that mashes the cargo between both belts once it gets to the top it is deposited onto the boom conveyer.it is really some cool engineering

Thank you for that explanation as it's something I've always wondered about but no one has attempted to show it in action. This video is the closest so far but still doesn't show what's going on UNDER the cargo load and how the cargo is transferred out of the hold.

I fished on the M-13 side for 30 yrs at night with a fire and lanterns,and couldn't tell you how many times I have seen that boat pretty cool seeing the search lights at night and some light fog,always waving at the men,showing our catch as the went by,probably you
