A good chunk of the monster hunter stories 2 endgame is filling your monstie compendium
And that requires getting every single elder dragon and deviant.
The problem with that is unless all other monsters, you can’t make them retreat and they even don’t show in dens normally.
The only elder dragon you can get in a regular or rare high rank den is nergigante.
For everything else you only have two options:
Playing super rare multiplayer expeditions
Or finding a super rare high rank monster den.
The problem of super rare MP expeditions is that they aren’t easy to access.
There are only three methods:
To join someone online sharing one.
To buy a ticket using 100 bottle caps.
To find one ticket in an online expedition.
The expedition method is quick the first few times because the game gives you a lot of free bottle caps while doing the elder lair but once you are out of tickets, you must grind.
Finding super rare dens is hard while playing normally because the spawn rate is low very very low.
But luckily you can brute force it and raise your chances if you are smart about it.
The only requirement you need to search super rare dens is to be in high rank and own a flying monstie.
A flying monstie hugely helps because when you fast travel while flying, you will start flying at an elevated position.
From there you can move up or forward to a view where you can spot almost the full map of the area.
Super rare dens are of a lighting diamond white very easy to spot at any distance at a small glance.
Even in a couple of maps you don’t even have to move at all and can scout from where you spawn.
In these cases looking at all the dens is lighting fast in less than five seconds.
And you can teleport back and back to the same spot and repeat over and over.
How long does it take this method to find a super rare den?
In my experience it takes on average 7 minutes to find a rare den.
My record has been 5 minutes in the Terga zone.
At worst it has taken me 15 minutes.
I recommend this method for the areas of Hakolo Island, Alcala and Tega the most.
This is because they offer an almost complete vision of the whole map and makes spotting super rare every where easy.
Worst is without doubt the ice region.
The ice region has two problems that make this method don’t work:
The first one is that the zone is huge and the terrain is very uneven. This causes that you only can watch a few dens from the spawning point and most are hidden.
Then, there is the problem that the den color is white like the snow making it hard to quickly spot.
This makes finding super rares there almost impossible.
Because of that I recommend you to spare your super rare expedition tickets for snow missions.
This brings another important point. Not all areas give you the same monsties.
For example, in the jungle you can find kirin, Razorwind or Teostra. In Alcala you can find Kushala Daora and Velkhana can be found of all places in the volcano.
With this and the online expeditions for the other zones you will be able to complete your collection in a couple days of grinding.
Hope it was of help to you!
And see you in the hunt!
