Connie, I love leveraging both Ancestry & Family search and sometimes another site as well. Sometimes images, for instance, are clearer in one site than another, or the indexing is more complete, etc. as well as different record sets. I even found Swedish records, mostly minster's reports and such, that none of the other sites had; and my Swedish cousin-researcher had never seen! Thank you for this short intro to digging into these important records.

This video adds some new skills to Family Search's new feature for me. I stumbled on this feature a few weeks ago and miracle of miracles I found my a family record that was a brick wall. John Hague actually had another family before and the probate record named all of the children I knew of and the other marriages children, place of death, confirmed date of death, and so much more!! Still a brick wall in so many other ways, but now I have more information to continue searching. Great video!

I don't know the father of mime either, too many possible surnames can't pinpoint anyone.
@catsknit236 ай бұрын
Downloading the record and transcript gives you a pdf with both the original text and the transcription in it. I do that but then also copy the transcription from the webpage and paste it into a Word document, so I can then easily edit it (mostly it seems to repeat surnames in some areas but overall the transcribing is excellent) and save it. I also add a jpg image of the original to my transcription and the source info. All this because the downloaded pdf is not editable.

I found family members that I didn't even know existed in a Will then found the land and deed records. But now I haven't been able to find any more records on those family members from the early 1900's. Another brick wall! Question, how did you get those green and yellow squares to appear by your ancestors name? Are they quick references that those ancestors are either complete or still actively researching. Love your channel!! I have learned so much from you! Thank you for doing this!

Go to Emojipedia.com and find the shape, copy and then paste into Ancestors profile in the suffix field.

Yes! I was able to find all of the deeds for my French Canadian 3rd great grandfather's deeds in Kalkaska County, MI, using FamilySearch's AI deeds search. However, there are several months missing for probate docs for the same county. The probate docs aren't in FamilySearch or Ancestry, though I did find a Probate Notice in the county newspaper for the sale of 3rd GG's real estate. Bonus: my 3rd great uncle was the notary for the deeds (as well as a County Board Supervisor, Postmaster for the town and school teacher).

I have discovered that Ancestry has Will Book indexes indexed, but not the actual wills. However, you can use the page number in the index to manually find the page of the will by scrolling the film roll. You can't link the image of the will to your person because it isn't indexed, but you can download the image to your computer and then upload a copy of the image to the gallery of your family member.

I am writing to say thank you for educating me on probate records. I am African American and I am doing everything I can to find my great great grandfather Benjamin Crockett born a slave in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. I have not been able to find anything on him but hopefully he was able to buy property and maybe there was a record created. I am not a paying subscriber of yours yet so I doubt you will see this but I would love to be able to find out if you have materials that can help me get pass the brick wall. I am at the 1870 census and I am looking at white "Crockett" families but I don't understand how to use slave schedules. I'd appreciate any assistance you can provide. Also, can I download any lesson paperwork for this podcast. Thanks a million. Carlos Benjamin Crockett

Is there an in-depth course in how-to, to use your own words, down and dirty of what's what and whys of Probate records? I need to pretend I know nothing and learn from the beginning; without becoming a lawyer. Thank you!

Hi. If you add a Fact, to one of your, Family Members, in your Tree. (I'm not talking about, look up Records and add them). I'm talking about, adding a Fact, to one of your Family Members, that you already know. Will that fact, that you add, will it help Ancestry know, A little more about, that person. Meaning, will someday,,you will get more hints, just because, of adding more fact to a family member in your tree?,
@GenealogyTV6 ай бұрын
I’m not sure. Hints are usually driven by the records attached to hints. Everything else goes into the member tree hints.
