Thanks!! I'll check it out as Andromeda gets a little higher in the sky this summer. Cassiopeia led me to Andromeda galaxy the other night, low in the sky just over the ridge. It was after 2am, so all I did was take a quick glance before taking down. ...I love different colored doubles. Albireo in Cygnus is a favorite, with it's yellow major and blue second. I do really like Cor Caroli with it's blue primary and warm yellowish white neighbor. Yeah, Mizar still gets a visit every now and then...... I tried but couldn't split Sargas in lower Scorpius the other night. Seeing wasn't optimal. I'll try again.

Nice video David! I remember how i resolved the Alnitak triple star system, I managed to obtain in the image also the second star, i think at about 3 arc-seconds distante, i used a 7nm Ha filter and took 2hr and 30 min of data that i combined with another 2 hours of data with an baader uhc-s filter.

The plan was to make a whole bunch, but then we wound up needing to move a couple months sooner than expected, and I don't have the studio space I need to get any more videos made at the moment. Plus trying to get the tenant out of the house I now own has been... frustrating. But she should be moving out this weekend. Then I have to rip up carpet / paint / move in. So... it might be a bit. But I'll get more done. Apologies for the delay.

Yes..I have Seen Double Stars Like Sirius A and B through my Telescope and Almach is Definitely One Remarkable Double Star To Observe like Albireo👍🔭✨

Hi David, excellent short overview of the beautiful double star Almach. Nice location method too. I’ll have to admit “cheating” when I observed Almach late last year. I have a Celestron 8” Go To scope - just select the star on my iPhone from their app and the scope goes there! It’s a great sight using the 13mm eyepiece (153x). I’ve become quite interested in double stars lately and they are pretty easy targets, even in heavily light-polluted locations, like mine.

Had to move from a house I sold sooner than I expected and then couldn't get into the house I was buying until just recently (and there are still lots of unopened moving boxes strewn about). So I had no way to produce more videos from Christmastime on. Hope to get back to it in a few weeks.

Hi David from another David! ;) Thank you so much for your content, it is both nice, calm, informative, and eye- (or telescope) opening. ;D Besides that you seem to be a very nice and resourceful person. I will definitely try to use all these guides as soon as I get my energy up and the cloud covers to leave Sweden alone a bit more frequently. However, from that to something else i noticed.. I don't know if it's just for me or not, but for some reason your first three TOTS videos appeared in my "new videos from subscriptions" list. Great. But the last three didn't? I just happened to come across them searching for other videos from you when I saw them, and thought it was kind of strange they didn't show up as the other ones. I also noticed you've got fewer views on the last videos (especially this last one?) and thought it might have something to do with KZbin, rather then the interest (I do think it is there!). Maybe I'm totally wrong, but I just wanted to tell you so you can check if there is something wrong and hopefully fix it! Best regards David

Hi David - thank you for the nice comment. I wish I knew why the views are not the same, and thank you for letting me know that KZbin is not even serving these up for subscriptions. That's a little concerning, though I am not sure what to do about it either. I haven't made my settings any different, other than to accurately tag the videos for the somewhat different content. I think these would be quite useful videos for anyone looking to find and see more in the night sky, so I have no idea how to fix what KZbin is doing with them. Hopefully their algorithms will figure it out and push these into more subscribers' feeds.

Indeed. Though when there is a proper name for a star, it is (usually) the preferred name to use.

@@Eyesonthesky not really. Do you speak fluent Arabic and Greek? Probably not, nether do I. We are undoubtedly bastardizing the pronunciation to begin with. But the proper designation would be either the Bayer Greek letter, or Flamsteed number, followed by the possessive form of the constellation’s name. Other than the 21 first magnitude stars, and maybe a dozen others, Albireo, Polaris... it becomes quite chaotic to be using the various ‘proper names’ of fainter stars...’Nunki, ‘Alphecca’,’Adhara’. Very confusing for beginners, who ask, “where are they”? They ‘re right! You might as well be using the names given to them by the international star registry,(that scam that tells you, for $50, they’ll name a star after your departed loved one). By using the possessive form of the constellation name you instantly know where to look, and the Bayer letter, or Flamsteed number, can find it exactly on a chart. You must be aware that’s how they’re referred to in professional publications. I’ve been in this hobby for 56 years, and I’ve seen this proper name use growing over the last 30 years, because of software programs written by computer geeks who know nothing about astronomy or its nomenclature. I always advise newbies to take the time to learn the 24 letters of the Greek alphabet (and proper pronunciation, π is “pee” not “pi”) it’s so easy to learn now a days, there are KZbin posts by native speakers to show you.

@@jonathanhansen3709 Thanks for the thoughts. Kindly note, I am going off of the IAU proper names information that the IAU has designated as being correct spelling and usage. I've included a link at the bottom so you can be up to speed on what the IAU has designated for correct proper star name usage, and I'll explain why I am correct in using the proper name Almach. The IAU began a Working Group a few years ago to identify stars with proper names and standardize them so that the same spelling would be used going forward. I have used the IAU approved spelling of Almach, because it is considered the correct spelling and appropriate usage. They have also said that the brightest stars using proper names from the Yale Catalogue of Bright Stars is perfectly acceptable. Of the 9,093 naked eye visible stars in that catalog, and given that Almach is well within the top 1% of the naked eye visible stars, using the proper name for the star while also indicating it as Gamma Andromedae elsewhere is entirely appropriate. There are some stars in my list of objects here where I am intentionally not using the IAU designation - such as Epsilon Cassiopeia, as it is a well-known double star by amateurs and I've never seen the designation "Segin" used prior to the 2017 adoption by the IAU. So while yes, we use quite deformed versions of the original Greek and Arabic now (and no, I do not speak either language, but that is irrelevant given the IAU guidance on proper usage), the IAU has formalized most of them, and in the case of the brightest stars, I will use the designation they have provided as that is the officially accepted version now. That has nothing to do with "bought/sold" star names, by the way - I am using the IAU-approved spellings and proper names. That is perfectly within correct IAU Style Guide usage, incidentally. I hope that helps explain why I have used the IAU officially designated name for this, and several other, stars in my Telescopes On The Sky list.
