Exactly. 30 years ago I asked myself why I wanted, or needed, to make photos. One night I looked at who I was and what I loved to do when I was a young boy...before the world started to mould me into some form of adult. So, I mean, who I was when I was still innocent. My greatest happiness was to ride my bike out into the countryside after school, which I did as often as possible, to explore, and discover, and then to come home and tell my mother, and to draw pictures of what I found. It was so exciting to do this, especially to share with someone. So, that explained my why...which I continued with my photography. Motivation has never been an issue since then. You have done the same with yourself.

I had a great conversation with a friend this week and he mentioned how important it is to not force ourselves when we're lacking inspiration, but to look out for what might be a new source of it, even if it means taking a break, a breather to renew our creativity. This chat and your video helped me organize a few thoughts that I'm having and struggling with lately. Very interesting insights as always, sir. Thank you! :)

Being in constant search of inspiration is definitely a winner! I got up and down on the "break" thing, and whether it's a good idea for me. For the past few years I haven't really taken a creative break, but I do "switch" into other things. If I'm drawing less, i'm photographing more, if I'm photographing less, I'm writing more music... etc. Though I guess not everyone has multiple disciplines to turn to (or want to), but I kind of need them since I have a lot of ideas, and not all of them can be photographs. Another way I think about it is like the gym, there are some days I don't want to go, but I push through and 100% of the time (unless I have an injury) I am happy I did. Creating feels the same way. Best of luck with staying motivated my bro! The world needs it.

Thanks for this man! Been lacking motivation recently and never fully figured out why meaning is important to art. I'll try to figure out my why now

Interesting to hear the connections you made between the hobbies and how that helped!

Definitely a lot of sleep lost on these kinds of thoughts, but it paid off! :D

Nice video and great to see someone talking about motivation as opposed to gear. Matti Sulanto and Peter Forsgard recommended you.

I appreciate that! Thank you! And thanks to them also, that was very sweet. Yeah I'm not much of a gear guy. I know the gear I use quite well, other than that I don't keep too up to date with that stuff until I need to replace something. Thankfully there's channels doing that far better than I ever could :)
