On the remarkable 2, the conversion to google docs with a typed document is fairly easy. Just upload to drive then open as a doc

What a great, comprehensive video! 🙂 I'm currently in my first month of using a Remarkable2 solely as a replacement for my paper notebooks and stacks of random notes all over my desk. I have the keyboard folio but I've never used it! I just love handwriting everything, and sketching when needed. I loved your Sacred 6 book! 🙂

I’ve been using the onyx BOOX note 2 for the last 4 years to write and read. It’s superb. I have removed the google play services and just side load M365 apps since the hardware is a so old. That cadence seems to work best and is a testament of the quality of Onyx as the device still performs fine for it's age.

My main note taker is reMarkable 2. I have the folio keyboard, which I use occasionally. I have the old (in e-ink aging scale) Boox Lumi Max, but I only use it for reading, calendar app that can show notes on the lock screen. I don't own an iPad. With reMarkable 2, I take handwritten notes for meetings, capture thoughts in diagrams, annotating PDFs and web captures, daily organizer (My Daily Organizer by Voja). If I want to write some thoughts down or journals, I use the keyboard to type. Typing is faster than handwriting for me. My son has an 8" iPad pro and used it for one school year in college. But this year he took reMarkable with him and use both. He uses reMarkable everyday for notes, at least that's what he told me. He does not have the folio keyboard, but was considering it. His reason to use reMarkable is the writing notes works better on the reMarkable. He never used a Boox device and the Lumi is certainly too big for him. BTW, I have many other ways of writing notes and thoughts. I use a Mac Mini's Unix command line with vim to write pure txt notes, which I can back up on my NAS and access from a PC as well. I also use OneNote a lot at work, emails and Google's Keep on phones (I was an Android user, so stuck with Google apps). Of all these, reMarkable is the only one feels like old fashion paper notebook, which can't run out of pages. I don't think reMarkable is perfect and knowing SuperNote and Boox devices have better hardware and more features, it is temping to try them out. However, reMarkable simply does what I need to do very well, so I have not reason to switch. In fact, because I already have all the accessaries, if reMarkable is broken, it is the cheapest for me to get back to note taking. Even SuperNote is more expensive to start from nothing. The biggest feature Boox has that I wish reMarkable can support better is importing of photos or high res. pictures. I tried ones, it is very very slow on reMarkable 2, but Lumi Max can deal with pictures without any issues. It can also do screen capture since it is an Android device. I know, to work with photos, reMarkable has to add more memory and increase storage space, so it is not just software. If I have to just pick one device, I may go for an iPad. The assumption is that I wouldn't have phone or laptop, either. iPad is the one device that overlaps with all of them. BTW, for reMarkable users, please try RCU. It well worth the $12. You can replace the sleep wallpaper, backup without WiFi. You don't need the connect service, if you are paranoid about document security. You can download everything through USB and not have to be on any networks. The biggest value for me is RCU allows me to install Chinese character sets. I can't type Chinese on reMarkable, but the desktop and phone app can input Chinese. Without the Chinese fonts, reMarkable 2 can't display them and RCU solved it.

I primarily use the ReMarkable 2 with the type folio for distraction free writing. The FreeWrite had potential, but as said here, the screen lag was very annoying. I also found that I had more typos on the FreeWrite than I do with the ReMarkable. My second choice is the iPad, but the distractions of media consumption can hinder productivity. My work focuses on a lot of writing each week and the ReMarkable 2 is my go too for note taking, planning, and writing. The transfer of text is not too bad. I simply copy and paste from the ReMarkable desktop software.

My current favorite is an old Alphasmart Neo. The batteries last nearly a year. The keyboard is terrific. It easily uploads text to my computer after a writing session. I'll be crushed when it finally dies.

The Alphasmart Neo was also my favorite. I bought a few since they are not made anymore. Sadly, they all broke down in time. My wife gifted the Freewrite Traveler for me. It does not compare. I use it, but very disappointed. Freewrite also makes an Alpha product. It is way more inferior than the old Neos. The LCD panel is horrendous. I will not buy it.

@@saulchapnick1566 I use both a Neo and the new Alpha. What I like about the Alpha is the mechanical keyboard with swappable keycaps. I also like the one-key send to email feature. I use it like a Neo, writing and then sending the file by email to myself and deleting it. I don't mess with the Postbox syncing.

@@CoachKlipp thank you for sharing that information with me. Yes, I do miss my Neo. I know I trash Freewrite, yet I use it. I really hope they upgrade their software, or another company develops a great, more affordable product. I do have to say that the Freewrite keyboards are outstanding. That is the primary reason I keep to it.

Kills me that e-ink devices are all hindered by vendor lock-in, DRM, or generally bad software. Sadly, I think I'll stick to the iPad because I can use an Apple Pencil, just about any keyboard and paste from Apple Notes to literally any app or service or website. 😞 Distraction free writing is something I really want to try but can't bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars on a device I may not use after the first couple months.

I enjoy the FreeWrite if I'm just composing. I use the reMarkable if I'm composing but editing as well. I agree that the reMarkable has remarkable responsiveness on the e-ink screen. And it has just enough formatting to be useful, but not so much that it distracts you. I've also found the reMarkable quite nice for coding with LaTeX, something that does require a bit of editing on the fly, at least for me.

I have the 3rd Gen Freewrite, the Traveler, a Neo, a MacBook Pro (which is strictly used for polishing), a BOOX Ultra tablet with the pen and keyboard, and an IPad Pro 12.9 with the keyboard. If I HAD to pick one it would be my iPad. But as you said, it’s easy to get distracted even in No Distraction mode. I LOVE the Freewrite hardware but I wish the software wasn’t so restrictive. My BOOX (and iPad) is my go to for notes. And my traveler, while it was essentially a paperweight for three years because it would brick every time an update was attempted, has magically decided to work about a month ago. I use them all. It just depends on how I intend to use it. If I’m going to the library, I take my BOOX. If I’m writing outside, I take my traveler. If I’m doing a first draft, or anything with heavy typing, I use my Freewrite (3rd gen is light years ahead of the previous two generations). Editing and polishing, my MacBook Pro. And my iPad is a catch all. Because I can do anything with it and take it anywhere. I literally take my iPad everywhere.

Wow, it's been a while I used my Pomera DM30 too! As a fellow Remarkable 2 user I bought the Pomera in 2021 off Amazon Japan for ¥18,164 = CAD $164.85. That was back when I didn't have the keyboard for remarkable yet. It was good for typing up my notes on film festivals and you can store the text notes on SD card which can easily be moved to my computer folder at home. However the keyboard is very cramped. Now I mostly use remarkable or my Amazon fire tablet with keyboard. I guess I would not be buying a new e-ink writer unless my others break down. I'm keeping an eye out on new laptops just in case my computer finally dies. FYI it's a netbook 😮😮 still works but not on the internet. Just good enough to move my files to my external hard drive for archives so I mainly use my cellphone for internet stuff, Amazon tablet for media consumption and remarkable for notetaking and typing. 😊😊

Each to their own, of course. This is a broad church. But surely, surely, a proper laptop device is about a thousand times better for typing (and probably cheaper)? RM2 and Boox can do typing, obviously. But they're really better at hand written notes. The Freewrite? I just don't get it. It looks like a Fisher Price Baby's First Laptop but somehow less elegant. And the lag! It's like you're getting GameBoy technology for iPad prices. I just do not understand why anyone thinks this could be a good investment. Each of these (except the Free write) has some acceptable level of multi-use support, but all of them are very limited in those second uses.

I guess I should say - I have a RM1 and loved it, it was brilliant. I like the look of the RM2 but the 10 inch screen is not great for me, I really like the A4 screen I get with my Quaderno v1 (for reading PDFs and doing maths), even though the Quaderno has product quality issues. I would absolutely LOVE a new 13 inch Boox, but it's too expensive 😂

HAHA yes I have them all and where is 80-90% of my writing REALLY taking place? In front of these 2 amazing screens, but I still do love my devices! Thanks for the comment!

None of these are ideal. THE BEST writing device so far is the Alphasmart Neo2 with its 700 hours of battery life, instant-on function, and ability to auto-save your work to 8 different file slots. IF someone could come up with a device with that kind of battery life, a Topre keyboard, 7" e-ink display, SD card slot, and ZERO possibility of connecting to anything WiFi related, I'd be the first to buy.

The 3rd gen is much better in my experience. I agree, though. It is way over priced for its function. The new one they released, the Alpha, is much cheaper for what it is. But I didn’t get that one. Not yet at least. A Neo does virtually the same exact thing for a fraction of the cost so I don’t see myself “upgrading” that device.
This Remarkable 2 tablet does (almost) nothing...
