In today’s video I am restoring this old broken pocket knife. I found markings on the blade Gust.Haker Solingen. Pocket knife is rusted and hard to open and has a smaller broken blade. My first idea was to replace the blade with spare ones, but after finding markings on the smaller blade as well I decided to keep it and shape it a bit…

Hey everyone! This time I have changed a bit filming set up. I received some comments that is too dark and difficult to watch so I changed that as well as music. I tried to make a balance… Looking forward to hear more great suggestions and ideas, thank you for all support! Stay positive and enjoy in summer! See you next Monday 😊 Boris, Norway

@@FFD_Restorations The music was fine for me - VASTLY better than some you come across online. In fact, quite an earworm! Like others, I'm curious about the grinder. There's an old hand grinder in my Mum's garage that I need to look at more closely. What are the wheels you're using, please? And what paste/compound?
@FFD_Restorations
@FFD_Restorations 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardstewart6900 thank you! The stone wheel came with the grinder, I have several of them now and none of them has the same diameter for the attachments. I can measure for you if you need that information. For the paste I am using Autosol. Quite common and gives great results in my opinion :) Thanks for watching!
@richardstewart6900
@richardstewart6900 3 жыл бұрын
@@FFD_RestorationsThanks. I meant the material/polishing wheels mounted together rather than the stone grinding wheel. I'm guessing that they're normally separate but you just put them on next to each other? And yes, Solvol Autosol - I should have thought of that, but I'm so used to seeing people using some kind of special red polishing compound. I have a couple of old British Army knives that I need to renovate.

I see you have a lot of really small parts to clean, sand, and polish. Try using a magnetic base stop some wood workers use to set up on tables of drill presses and table saws as a temporary stops or device holding. They have what I refer to as a on/off switch on lever to magnetize/ demagnetize the surface, that would hold the part for you and give you complete access to your parts and make it easy to retrieve your parts when finished. Just a thought.

Thanks Terry, that is a very valuable suggestion. I was looking for one and it is really hard to get it in Norway, ordering from abroad is just too expensive...

Try any kind of magnet at first to see if the idea would work. Earth magnets might be to strong making it difficult to get parts off. Epoxy the magnet on something you can fasten in your vise or clamp to table. Let me know how it works if you decide to try it. I might be able to help you out.

@@FFD_Restorations Thank you for your offer, but I agree that shipping would be cost-prohibitive. I will search for a USA supplier for the punch. It's my own fault that I need a big target when swinging a hammer. --B

Maybe if you get a flat magnet, you could more easily sand those small washers.

That is good suggestion Nick. I have been thinking about that lately and will try to find a good flat magnet 👍 Thanks for watching!

You actually could have made a new blade for that broken one. And I thought that type knife actually had a lot fatter (wider) main blade as well. IDK Thumbs Up!

I could, that is true! But the only reason I haven't is because of the stamp. I could not replicate that. Thanks for watching 👍

I wish people would stop misusing the word "restoration". A "restoration" restores and item to as new condition. Nice job but not a restoration. Still gave you a thumbs up ;)
