The Arabic Van Dyke Bible translates the word in question at 29:27 as nose-ring too, so I think in this case the NKJV is right.

As I understand it, that verse says not to invoke God's name when you make a vow. So, you can make a vow, just don't say, "So help me God".

Hebrew wife? There were no hebrews then; Abraham was from Ur, that made him a mesopotamian, not a hebrew.

Also, the Early Modern English pronouns 'thee', 'thou', and the rest are in no way reverential, but rather familiar. 'You/ye' was both plural and respectful.
