Finding and Measuring Trees to Make Utility Poles in Rayonier Forests

A Rayonier forester takes you on site as he inspects high value timber that can be used for utility poles or piles for docks and piers. The trees have to be hand-measured to be cut to a specific size. We also use a technique called "scaling" to ensure they're straight and free of defects. Once a forest is harvested, baby trees --- or, seedlings -- are planted to begin the cycle again.
