As a youth, I listened to the rain in the attic, Red candles flickering behind gauzy curtains. In my prime, I listened to the rain aboard a passenger boat, Wide river, low clouds, wild geese crying in the west wind. Now, listening to the rain in a monk's hut, my hair is speckled with grey, Joy and sorrow, meetings and partings, all without sentiment. I let it be, at the steps, the rain drops till dawn.
