I spent 10 years teaching in Japan and my wife is Japanese. My students taught me to love insects. Now I love for entomology. The love of insects is a major part of Japanese youth culture. Japanese children love and admire insects. They are nothing to be afraid of. I love that attitude. I learned to raise beetles (wow...what a lot of work) in Japan. Also.....like you mentioned at the end....Japanese are not litigious. My insect-loving heart misses summer and bigs in Japan!

Actually, my love for insects is almost like a spider man story. When I was little, I accidentally stood in a harvester ant nest and I got bit. Rather than get upset, I became curious. I wanted to know why the ants bit me and I fell in love with insects. Ants in particular. If i were to go back to school it would be for entomology. Preferably studying their fossils and evolution.

Opening something like this in the west, I would be actually worried about the well being of the animals. I could see kids throwing them around without respect or even harming them on purpose. Not all kids, of course. But enough to make this a serious matter. And the saddest part of that? Without opening en exhibit like that the people won't get a chance to experience nature first hand. It's kind of a self perpetuating loop.
@likasil5 жыл бұрын
Lion_603 I think there’s a different underlying philosophy/belief about children. Here, in NA, we believe children to be disrespectful, fearful, fragile, with a lack of honour towards anything out of ignorance due to their age and lack of life experience. That we, as adults, need to manage and direct their life lessons to protect them from themselves and ‘others’ who could bring harm to the children. So, they behave accordingly and exactly as the adults around them expect. That is part of the self-perpetuating loop.
@petrescuework-difficultcas65815 жыл бұрын
In a larger city nearby, there is a zoo with an insectarium. They housed a free roaming net spider (a giant beast) for years, that had her giant net built between two wooden logs. She just hung there freely (inside the insectarium) for everybody to look at. Actually this spider was stolen so often, that they at some point stopped buying new ones every time. They just were fed up with people stealing their spider right out of the net. Although I absolutely disgust spiders and almost got a heart attack when I saw that thing hanging there, it is really messed up that people can't simply appreciate what they are presented. And they always have to ruin it.

@@Kairos_Akuma your right, but it looks as if nothing was done for the beetle, I'm not sure if anything could have been done but that leg being gone could be quite crucial to the survival of the beetle. But for now he looks fine. ☺ hopefully their is a way to prevent this from occurring in the future.

the quality of this channel is absolutely amazing... didn't want to leave you guys without a video so here is a dedicated episode shot in another country that is packed with not only information about beetles but also information on cultural differences, nearly 20 mins long, great voice over and amazing footage. this is just a filler episode, and it's on par with the productions I've seen on animal planet or national geographic. Can't wait for the next rhino beetle games episode. It's been fun watching full episodes worth of meaningful content.

I really thought he would end up using them in the rhino beetle games😝#TeamPoseidon These beetles are so gorgeous! My dad found a hercules beetles before and he said getting it off hurt!!! I really want to go there. Americans be like , it's a bug squish it!!!Asians be like, its a beetle, dummy!! We need to hold these stuff in the US. Ac question of the week. My favorite is the hercules beetle because its body is solidly built and has a more exquisite design of color than the other beetles along wish the massive horns.

I will admit, before coming across this channel, I would see ALL insects - not just ants or cockroaches - as pests, and only moths and butterflies were worth being interested in. Now, after being able to see ants up close, I realize that they're actually rather cute in a strange way, and cockroaches are a bit like ugly ducklings of the insect world. Because of this channel, I'll admit that I've fallen in love with the creatures that have nearly every other living species outnumbered in the world. And the beetles are just amazing to look at - not just the ones featured in this video, but the ones back home in the Antiverse as well. For me, it's not just Ant Love, Cockroach Love, or Beetle Love, but rather Insect Love Forever! ...mosquitoes can still kiss my gaster.
