David vs Goliath by far is probably one of my favorite Seasons there were so many people who were likeable. The production team and the editors did a really good job with the storyline I enjoyed every minute of it

Noura, Elaine, and Karishma were all pretty conspicuously absent from the conversation too though.i think before all that went down, the foundation for Tommy’s winner edit had been laid. But he wasn’t the only person who disappeared for a couple episodes.

I think the #1 rule of searching for winner edit clues is that editors will never make the winner look like a chump. If a player goes on an extended rant about why XYZ is going to happen and then it doesn't, even if they're not voted out that episode, they're not the winner. Certainly winners say and do things like this all the time, I'm just saying those instances will be edited out.

Maybe... Adam looked a little chumpy at the beginning of MvGX. There really wasn’t a way to portray Mike’s fumble at the auction in Worlds Apart as anything other than a massive chump move. Amber’s edit in AllStars made her look a bit helpless at times. She had a few chump moments. And Jenna’s begging people to vote her out in Amazon made her look like a huge chump. You’re normally right though. Most winners don’t have confessionals that make them look weak or clueless.

I did not see Tony as a winner Four Season 40 because when he got on the tribe where it was Denise Jeremy Sandra and Kim I thought he was surely gone. I knew that tribal had to be exciting however I didn't see it going the way it did. so for him to stay and for Sandra to basically eliminate herself from the game it threw me off completely

Honestly Nick played so well in David vs Goliath, and WAW overwhelmed him with all these other big players that he couldnt play the same. The spliting the minority vote was/is probably a top move ever

I love that you mentioned shielding. I think that gets overlooked so much. People examine the edit so hard to find tells that someone is going to win that they often ignore purposeful absences. Casual fans don't want to see a winner who was made to look stupid so that can be exactly what they give us sometimes: not showing them when they, in fact, looked stupid. Or at least removing them from stupid situations where they were actually present. In that same vein, it's also important to use context clues in case someone played a better game than the winner but they're being purposely downplayed. Sometimes the edit lifts the winner up by default by holding down their competition. That one can be a lot harder to notice in the edit. A lot of it comes out in exit interviews but it's there.

Shieldingcan be tricky though, because a lot of people though Michele was being “shielded” when they didn’t show her during the Wendell vote or when she wasn’t made to look stupid during the Jeremy vote and was validated when she ranted to Nick later.

A big clue for me for Game Changers was the tribal council where Varner called out Zeke, and there was a moment where Sarah expressed her growth in her beliefs, and that instantly made me believe that she was going to win. Don't know if that was the case for anyone else

Usually if someone gets extended attention after doing something that normally gets less attention (Usually finding an idol) it means they may matter. S2 is another outlier (the dog that didn’t bark theory) For examples of the extended attention thing, see Wendell or Tony’s idol in ghost island and WaW respectively (with Tony’s idol, we even see him talk earlier about how he can’t/shouldn’t look for them)

Sophie's edit was definitely tricky to disect. The Russian thing is a bit of a stretch to begin with, and her recognition of Brandon "hiding something" is no different than Sarah (who lost her season) saying that she recognizes Tony as a cop. It's part of the reason why a lot of people were shocked that she won over Coach, who seemed to be somewhat of a puppeteer.

I mean I feel like there’s a lot of humanizing moments too for people who dont end up becoming the winner so the whole "winners edit" argument is just pointless especially if you talk about it from episode 1.

You aren’t wrong. But there’s a huge difference between Sophie connecting to Coach over speaking Russian and Brandon talking about his faith and how he has to vote out the prettiest girl to avoid impure thoughts. Sophie comes off as savvy. She’s displaying a skill and stroking someone else’s ego. She talks about how she’s intentionally using her talents to make connections. Brandon comes off as unhinged. Several other cast members comment about his obsession with Mikayla and are clearly annoyed by it. It raises suspicions that he might be an erratic player. We see even more character moments from Brandon when he talks about being Russell’s nephew and trying to redeem the family name. But he keeps it as a secret for a few days, then makes a big to-do about coming clean. Once again, he looks erratic. And other players talk about how they trust him less because of the way he handled telling them he was a Hantz. That’s just one example. But in most seasons, there’s a contestant or two who gets lots of character moments that aren’t framed as strengths. Think Lisa from Philippines, Christy from Amazon, Karishma and Janet from Island of the Idols, Coach from Tocantins, Ozzy in Micronesia, Spencer in both of his seasons, etc. These people rarely win. A few exceptions are Sandra Diaz Twine and Chris Underwood.
