Meet women across South Asia who are breaking stereotypes and voicing their opinions loud and clear. Get ready for HER - great stories about stepping up, health, depression, dating, beauty and marriage filled with twists, turns and feeling.
01:25 - Finding Mr. Right
Dating is only a recent phenomenon in countries like India but now dating apps are flourishing. What role does the generation gap play in countries like Indonesia or Taiwan? Are traditional and modern lifestyles compatible? Three women tell us their experiences with online dating in this HER episode.
13:30 - The Meaning of Marriage
Marriage was once seen as a social and economic necessity. The equation that marriage makes us happy and divorce is a failure still prevails in many societies. But does one really have to get married to become happy? In this episode of HER, we want to explore the different ways women navigate the topic of marriage. What does it mean to them?
DW presents: HER
In recent years important steps have been taken to strengthen women’s position in South and South East Asian societies dependent on the extent of their economic development.
Reforms of basic rights and legal systems, demographic changes and more dynamic civil societies have made this transformation possible. Despite all progress enormous challenges in various parts of Asia still lie ahead especially concerning gender equality.
With this in mind the focus of our multimedia approach is on the lives of women from India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan. We show their experiences with stepping up, health, depression, dating, marriage and beauty.
Each episode focuses on one topic featuring three women from different countries and different backgrounds. The topics are universal and controversial.

Marry a woman who respects you and feel comfortable speaking her mind without disrespecting you. One that lets you lead, And has faith in your leadership. Modern western woman walk all over men. I worked in grocery store, and watched wifes with their husbands you would think how has this been normalized. Once you see it you can’t unsee it. Its on tv commercials, movies, the dumb husband thats needs to be talked down to, its everywhere. I say its one of the leading factors for divorce.

Yeah, but if in my opinion a good enough partner will do. For example to me it means that a good partner has at least decent emotional intelligence, somewhat of a minimalist that can appriciate small things as well, and generally a loving and faithful person. I shouldn't even mention looks, because there's countless women that have that so yeah.

Without judging whether that is good or bad or where between the extremes, do you think this is so wrong given we do not live in Utopia? I would not praise forcing people, but the idea that for a lifelong relationship there should also be harmony with the family exists around the world. Do not get fooled by films and such. We might hope for romance and be a more individualistic on average here in the west, but people still know that for most people family bonds are the most reliable (There is a saying in German that blood is thicker than water.) and people take that into account. Maybe a bit less openly displayed but they do.

My advise to the 37-year old Taiwanese young woman: 1. Please tone down your 18 points you are looking in a man. Reduce it to the most important 3-5 qualities in a man (ex: loyal, family oriented, good relationship with parents, keeps promises, etc.) . 2. Don’t feel sad when you see married women with kids. They maybe unhappy & miserable in their marriages. You may never know what is happening in people’s lives. Edit: Forgot to add that the grass is not always greener on the other side, as the saying goes.

Love is not about how perfect or match another person to you...but it's more on how much you like a person as you are willing to 'sacrifice' in accepting differences...and live with it... This is what I learned from 21 years of marriage which are still continue till this moment...got married when i was 24 and my wife was 21...a lots of differences between both of us...we quarrel a lot and more during our younger age...as we got more matured it become less....but still continues ..😁😁😁

Everyone wants the perfect life partner, but human beings will never be perfect. That's the problem nowadays. And as sex became easier to get, love got harder to find.
@shobanana1
@shobanana1 3 жыл бұрын
Actually love is easier to find because you have the freedom to find it but it’s a hard journey and not for the weak of heart. And no one says they want the “perfect” life partner, just the one they feel is perfect for them. Also, people were having lots of extra marital affairs especially men back when society was more constrained and they found love outside of marriage.
@houseofhas9355
@houseofhas9355 3 жыл бұрын
What do you think happens to someone if they have been with alot of sex partners before settling down with someone. I use to have a college friend , He slept with a lot of girls and dude was a shell emotionally, empty as he described it. Couldn’t pair bond with his girlfriends. Later in life met woman who had the same issue. mile high club numbers. Do you think high partnered individual has a higher chance of divorce if married. Is a red flag if a girl has had lot of partners. Been a 304. I would say majority of men don’t take a girl like that seriously because they can’t ensure paternity. Are they father of that child?
@houseofhas9355
@houseofhas9355 3 жыл бұрын
@@shobanana1 I think sex is sold to as freedom or escaping the constraints of society . Some of those constraints protect us from bad outcomes, Not all were toxic. But alot were not denying that. But now sex is seen as a consumable. Its western thinking thats quickly finding its self like a spreading virus into more traditional countries.

Well thanks to feminism that has told women they can have sex with as many man as they want. The top 10-20% of men are getting a lot of action without ever having to commit to marriage.
@h2t26
@h2t26 3 жыл бұрын
@@shobanana1 Of course people mean that "perfect" is what is perfect for them. The point is that idolized person doesn't exist if it's not found in reality. For example, a women it could be a man 6ft tall or taller, making six figures, and the list goes on. They won't settle for anything less not caring that only 10-15% of men are 6ft tall or taller, not to mention just how many of them actually make that kind of money. Not that all women want that just saying, that individualist sense of "perfect" isn't always realistic. Same could be said about men, but men are more likely and willing to settle for less then ideal and still appreciate what they have. If love was so much easier to find why are their nearly 50% of marriages ending in divorce? 80% of which are started by women. Why have birthrates dropped, why are more people staying single? Why are less people getting married? Why are women constantly complaining about not having a partner especially after they are past 30 or 40yrs old?

All relationships are hard and take work. Anything worth having is worth fighting for. Marriage is a journey of discovery; not for the faint hearted, and certainly won’t work out well for selfish people. You can’t put the burden of making you happy on someone else. I know it’s easy to think that you are perfect, but you’re not. And if someone is willing to love you with your imperfections, you better hold tight; And love them back, imperfections and all.

Find yourself, and express that. Then you will attract what you want in a partner/friend/any kind of relation. Work hard to know yourself, instead of everybody else, because then you feel prepared for any form of interaction(and this way you will know others better because you will attract likeminded people who like to share of themself). Most people still do the opposite and thus, hardly ever feel prepared. Oh, and btw, screw all of the clichés of dating, and do what feels right to you. That's the only right way. Keep expectations low, and have long term goals.

They are historically and linguistically connected with the Tujue, the name given by the Chinese to the nomadic people who in the 6th century CE founded an empire stretching from what is now Mongolia and the northern frontier of China to the Black Sea. With some exceptions, notably in the European part of Turkey and in the Volga region, the Turkic peoples live in Asia. What type of woman do majority of men want. its simple logical exercise. Alot of woman cannot ask this or think to. because of decades of propaganda-about men’s preferences being toxic and controlling. Its a form of tone policing. Mens preferences are not to be discussed because its hurt to some woman. Men on the other hand have to know woman’s wants. fit, financially stable, smart, etc etc. Because For a man not know what woman want and find attractive is literally to be single forever. Reality punishes men for not understanding woman’s desire in a partner. Difference is global society protects woman from reality’s punishment with comforting lies.

Many women are willing to share a man. Many women in the west do it all the time since they mostly go after the same 10-15% of men. Some of those men father many children from many different women. The polygamous muslim wife has low self esteem and she is trying to convince herself to justify that. Secondly, the 40ties years old lady’s relationship has red flags. At 40, they shouldn’t be still casually dating after knowing each other for over a decade. Things like different religion should be considered before you waste your time. It is unfair to get into a relationship hoping to change your partner on core values. They are too old for that shit. The lady says that they are too busy to communicate yet they share the same timezone. They have to wait for weekends to video chat. Even the most powerful men like Obama and Lebron James create time for their wives. I am a pilot who travels often but I would never miss to call my fiancée first thing I get to the hotel. We create a time everyday for us to communicate. I suspect that Indian bloke has another woman. Ladies, a man that likes you will never be too busy to communicate. They will do it effortlessly.

There's no perfect relationship bcuz nobody's perfect, obviously! When you want to enter a relationship: - Better ask yourself, have you become the very best version of yourself and ready to give the best of yourself to your partner and expect the same from him/her. - Always know what you want and better stated it clear, don't give hints, it will gives more headache. If you just want sex, say it, if you want serious relationship, say it, if you want things to work slowly, say it. - Boundaries always work. Don't do things that your partner hates and expect the same. - Communication and compromise is essential. The very basic and the best feeling in the world, is to love and be loved 🤗☺️

This topic can't be done justice without also taking the view of the males. So I can't wait for DW to also show men's perspective in find Mrs.Right and what marriage means to males. Hopefully get a good group covering all spectrum of blue, purple, red , and black pilled men. Here in the West divorce is at almost 50%, 80% of them started by women. Less people are getting married, more people are staying single, birthrates are dropping and mgtow is on the rise, there are more single mothers then ever before some women intentionally want to be single mothers, it's becoming more accepted that women are selling themselves for money, etc. A third video that covers this topic could be how the different cultures and laws effect marriage. There are already a few videos on the history of marriage. After all it takes two to get married, so makes sense to see the other side of the coin.

@@h2t26 well it has HER for me it would be logical to have HIM. I do not know if its placating or not. At least i didnt see feminist nonsense in the doc except for the one in an unnatural relationship. I hope they really make the one for males as i am interested in knowing mens ideas as much as possible. I want to get married and for this i must know where man and women complement each other.

@@etcwhatever Completely agree. Now that I think of it, would be good to look at different religious belives and how they play a role to. Like does church improve people's chances of marriage and of staying married or does it make no difference? Anyway, so glad to see a women willing to hear a man's perspectives. Good luck !

When I was in HS or college the BBC did this story on a man who had 3 wives, then divorced them all to marry one mute women. He said he was finally happy, he couldn't stand the nagging and bickering.
