One doctor in India gave many of her HIV/AIDs patients hope by helping them find partners. More than two million Indians are HIV positive. Many conceal their illness because of the stigma.
Doctor and microbiologist Suniti Solomon was a pioneer in India in the field of HIV and AIDs. She diagnosed the first AIDs cases on the subcontinent among prostitutes in Chennai. But she also made a name for herself because of her matchmaking. She gave new hope to patients who had become isolated because of the social stigma attached to the disease, bringing together countless couples, such as Karthik and Manu. With the doctor’s help, they found each other, a new life, and a new outlook on living with HIV. Suniti Solomon died in 2015.

she saw that every life has meaning. religion, class, and health were of no importance to her rather how to keep ppl healthy and find happiness. this is having an open mind this is what the world needs. yes she was a brilliant dr and I cried and said a prayer for her. she was covered by all religions it seems and I hope for the sake of the world she comes back to us in some other beautiful form.

Remember all these patients willingly came forward and asked for partners in the same boat - a lot of HIV positive people would have kept their diagnosis a secret and ruined lives due to their selfishness. These people are brave and moral, and suffered a bit for it.

HIV positive patients can be with someone with doesn’t have HIV. that is because as long as they take their meds and the virus is undetected in blood, is impossible to transmit it to others. Shame on that man's family who knew their son had HIV and hurried the wedding along, fully understanding that his new wife/their daughter in law is going to get infected with HIV as well... like why?! They knowingly transmitted this disease to her 😡😠 They knew they would consummate their marriage on wedding night and clearly didn't give two sh*ts. That's like knowingly giving someone cancer.... I bet their excuse was, "but.. but... our son has right to marry as well" 🙄

Early on in the epidemic a friend’s nephew came to our workplace. He had HIV and many health issues. When he got up to leave, I hugged him. He started crying and said no one had touched him since his diagnosis. I felt so angry that people were so damn determined to be ignorant and judgmental. Even at that time it was very clear how the disease is transmitted.

I guess she is proof that we in the West love “Indians,” for a reason as I know they’ve done so much with so little, relatively quickly, over there in India. Sadly, because unlike the Chinese, Hindustan, much like the West has built-in Hindu society the belief of Karma which Christianity also tries to teach us through the “Life After Death, and Judgement after death,” allegory, India will take at least 100, if not 200 years to take its rightful place as the leader of the world since unlike China we, won’t take slaves and enslave either our own or any minorities just to get rich quick.

In America. I remember there was a time that each person had to get tested for std’s before being allowed to marry. They should go back to those times, so each person is aware of whether or not they have something. That should be mandatory everywhere, so it gives the other person the choice. It is a human right to know if their partner has something.

@@SSS-dn3uz Maybe you should think before you speak and learn english properly next time. I completed my MBBS as of 2020. I was implying in my original comment that as we are taught about great medical people like Y.Subba Rao from India this Doctor should've also been mentioned in our curriculum. I only came to know about her in youtube, she wasn't mentioned once in our community medicine textbook in infectious diseases which is why I made this comment. And also I didnt say "only" I said such Indian pioneers meaning not just limited to medical profession. But since the subject was about medicine & the video was related to medicine I mentioned medical colleges and in my 2nd comment that is what I again repeated. By reading your comment I can safely now can say that you know crap about the medical field. mbbs is 5 yrs not 6. 1yr rural service is not compulsory now, government has removed it, atleast for my state it is. The same applies for PG you only have to do 1year of Senior Residency after 3yrs of PG to be a Assistant. Super Specialty is optional, not every branch needs it there's something called end branches too. Finally I don't need to prove myself to a idiot like you who can't understand what another person is saying. Also maybe from next time use your brain more and use your tongue less.

I'm sorry life has dealt you some tough cards. I often worry the younger generations have forgotten the horror of the early days of HIV/AIDS and the huge disservice to humanity by drug companies and politicians. It was genocide, plain and simple. With better treatments and the waning media attention, people in the Western world seem to think it only happens "in Africa" or somewhere else that does not concern them. It concerns everyone. I hope one thing that comes from the current pandemic is a recognition that we have a duty to support one another in illness and keep each other safe from harm. Nobody should be left behind. This documentary really illustrates that, whether medicine or marriage, it's all the same thing. Love for our fellow humans. Know that I never forget you are out there and still suffering. I hope 2021 brings something wonderful your way.

Dr. Solomon cared for her patients in every way possible! Such a lovely and admirable woman. If I were her patient she would be my guest of honor at the wedding. It's so unfortunate that the society makes people fear to do so.

This doctor is what every doctor ought to be.... one who treats the patient as a whole person, seeing their humanity irregardless of their diagnosis, not merely doling out meds to treat a symptom. Western doctors could learn a thing or two. Listening to Karthik giggle like a school boy when attempting to describe his feelings.... priceless. My heart has been made joyful.
