In Episode this Look Me in the Eye, we explore the profound impact of direct eye contact on mending estranged relationships. Daly, a 23-year-old with bipolar disorder, seeks to reconnect with his emotionally distant father, Steven, following years of separation and communication struggles. Megan and Rebecca, sisters who have fallen out, participate in the eye contact experiment to overcome their sibling rivalry and heal their relationship. Zach looks to understand why his once-close friend Lauren withdrew from their friendship, hoping the experiment will bring them back together.
Only Human celebrates and explores the unique and personal qualities we all have. Our channel offers a range of TV series and documentaries about human experiences and life journeys - while looking at the challenges life throws at us, turning ordinary people into everyday heroes.

The friends at the end... I have been the person who is sick and cuts off contact, I still am. I feel I can't reach out to anyone I knew in the past, because I am embarrassed that so many saw me when I was sick, then some saw me when I was in my prime but not when I was sick, and some saw me when I was the sickest I have ever been, but not who I am today. None of them have seen it all and they all have an impression of who I am...that I am not today. I did therapy for 8 years, numerous doctors for numerous conditions mental and physical health; the most stable I have ever felt is how I feel right now; I think about all the things that could be different if I was never sick, but ultimately my illnesses are part of my story to who I am today.

It sounds like you're finally your authentic yourself, which is so often the cure for the sickness we felt before.

Could you bring this experiment to America please? My older sister and I have been disconnected for years. I feel like this would break through us

Wow, that’s powerful! There always seems more to the story. If we knew how to offer grace and communication, if would be a nicer world.

My youngest child told me her therapist told my daughter that I was a TOXIC .other. The therapist has NEVER CONTACTED ME & and my daughter requested of me to "not bother with any, ANY, further contact with her, her husband and children, or anyone in the rest of her family" ...... so, since October 2021, I have respected her wishes. Before this earthquake in my life, following my a life-sized Tusamani, just before she instigated this wall, She had recent episodes of attempting suicide... far be it that I would be the trigger for any of future potential attempts or a final suicide. I have ZERO idea what she told her therapist that led the therapist fo believe her stories, her feelings about me. None of my 3 other children ever stated to me anything on that level of my behavior... none of them have stopped telling me that they love me, too! My heart remains broken, but staying strong..for me, for my 3 other adult children & their spouses & children. I am worthy of being the imperfect human being I am, I am confident that we both are missing many moments that could be precious memories.

I'm a 51 year old single mom with a 23 year old still living at home with me. I related to the Dad....Steve so much. You are so much more than you think you are, Steve. Thank you for telling your son you LOVE him. He needed that so much. I had a mother who never told me she loved me. We have been estranged for all of my adult life and most of my teen years. If you ever want someone to talk to Steve....reach out. I'll talk. I'll listen.

Hats off to these people. This is extremely courageous. As a person who is a very expressive person, can communicate, not always well, but I try. I find it so very sad that people remain so closed to their emotions and expressions of love towards one another, I understand it comes from a place of insecurity and pain and I am just so inspired by all of you for stepping out of your comfort zones in order to grow and heal ❤

First of all ALL humans are bi-polar, look at the definition. Like Shahid Bolton said, its not the people who are sick but the society they live in and the make you think its you. Well. Its not. Look at the value system and the selfish culture. The son and father seems as if there was so deep rooted hurt in the father's life, somewhere, some time ago where he wasn't validated for the beautiful soul that he is. I wish them guidance and peace.

To clarify, depression is one half of bipolar disorder, the other half is mania or hypomania (depending on whether you have Bipolar I or II). Depression isn't a separate illness, it's part of BPAD.

Not true. Depression can be just that, acute and chronic. Bi-polar is both, with completely different treatment for depression than for Bi-polar.

bipolar is not an illness, it is a word describing a set of reactions. eg highs and lows in moods(behavioural and brain chemistry). bi =2 and polar = polarity, hence the term poles apart. High manic or angry moods and then causes a depression (low mood)...Cure = Keep the highs low or calmer and keep the lows as joyous as you can, good food, garden, exercise etc.

The eyes are the window to the soul. You can tell a lot about someone via eye contact. I think its CLEARLY a great exercise as is demonstrated by this experiment
