I'm pretty late to the party, but as an autistic parent of an autistic child, I totally understand how easy it is to "catch" your kid's anxiety. Trying to help them refocus without letting your anxiety ramp up too, is really hard. When my kid (21 yo) is freaking out about something random, I know they are really upset about something else, but they aren't talking about that. They are freaking out about this other thing instead.

You can take photos of the eclipse using your phone camera and a pair of solar glasses. Apparently you hold them over the lens of the phone camera. I’m sure there are KZbin videos about it. I learned it from people at the Toronto Science Centre, so it probably legit. They were giving a presentation to my class (and others) over Zoom last week.

I'm late catching up on videos this week, but I love seeing your posts on FB. For future similar things, check if your local library has any camera equipment to loan out. You'd be surprised. I used this Finding Peace Kit for week 15 in my Cousin, despite promising myself to only use sticker kits in my Weeks to save money. Its just too cute though.

Erin, please keep water or a coffee bottle near when you film. Putting my SLP hat on now… try taking a sip or two instead of clearing your throat. It’s ok to sip occasionally- but clearing your throat really makes the irritation worse. (We all do occasionally but too often irritates your throat worse). You and Joe found a way to parent that doesn’t disregulate him. But it is clear that you set boundaries and have expectations for him! You do a great job!

It’s something to do with the Church calendar- the Christmas season ends and the Mardi Gras season begins on January 6th - also known as Epiphany (celebrating the wise men’s visit to the Baby Jesus, Epiphany is also called Kings’s Day. Traditionally the first day that King Cakes were available was January 6th (the baby inside of the cake represents the baby Jesus) I’ve never understood either - Kings day is exactly 12 days after Christmas every year yet Mardi Gras is always different - looked the following up: can occurring on a Tuesday anywhere from February 3rd through March 9th. Mardi Gras is tied to Easter, which falls on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Spring Equinox.

Jesus died on the Jewish day of 14 Nisan so as their calendar is lunar, the actual day will always change. The first full moon after the equinox.

It’s weird to me that Easter is dictated by the moon cycle 😮 It just feels like it takes the whole religious aspect of Easter away. Also that we still have Passover this year after Easter just feels so weird.
