Corey! Your instruction is right up my alley as we say in the Deep South. I am a wanna be watercolor artist who does much of her color play with the dynamic media of living plants. Some years ago, I got an idea to employ my artist color wheel to spur color combinations. However, in the dynamic living changing art form of living plants, we enter a whole new dimension. Each Spring I put away my paints & embrace the huge task of massive spaces to create ephemeral works of living art! Blessings 💐

Each time I view your video’s I buy more plants. Gorgeous new colors are irresistible. Rockapulco impatiens in coral and others, Bermuda Beach and Limoncello superbells. I have notice that Proven winners plants far better quality-with more/better developed root systems. Other brands will sometimes simply fall apart during transplant- as if no root ball existed.. or arrive with pests.. I mail order all plants to a 9b Florida zone. My first year here- growing pains/steep learning curve from my Illinois days. Very different balance of water due to humidity, diseases, and even fertilizer requirements all changed. Thx for inspirational videos. Much appreciated

Just ordered my first Hollywood Hibiscus and will underplant with Lantana and Verbena in tall 21” containers- matching pairs. All firsts thx to your videos I can better imagine the habits of these plants.

Enhance: I also have pretty good luck with PW plants. The poor roots you’re finding in other plants could be more of a grower issue than a plant problem. Theymay have been grown for a quick sale and weren’t properly established - I sometimes notice this in plants grown at some big box stores. That said, if you find plants and plant sources that work for you, it’s good to keep with them. I can imagine there’s a HUGE learning curve when changing climates like that.

2 years ago I bought Dancing Stars calibracoa for window boxes with hot pink petunias and they were fabulous. I'm trying to find more for some hanging baskets this year. I think you can never go wrong with any plants together. I use whatever I have or can find locally.

Working with what’s available often yields the most interesting, unexpected results.

Great combos, I’ll hope to fine those mini petunias! 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦

The Itsy petunias are nice. There are others that are somewhat similar... Blanket and Dekko -- not quite the same, but have the smaller flowers and good coverage.

I love your channel and I am a petunia superfan. Unfortunately, I am not up north but way down south in the Dallas area. I try to make the Supertunias last in my front yard flower beds and in mild summers here they have performed great. Thanks for all the recipe ideas because I usually can enjoy them until July 4th down here.

Hi Corey. I volunteer at a greenhouse and each spring we have problems with bugs. They use beneficials regularly and had to spray once. The calibracoa always get hit hard. How do you manage bugs in your greenhouse? Is there something we should be doing special? Petunias seem ok. Thank you!
@UpNorthGardenMI24 күн бұрын
If you’re using beneficials, I’d talk with the company you’re working with… you don’t want to use solutions that will kill your beneficials… and you want to make sure you have the right beneficials for the pest you are trying to stop.

Do greenhouses cut back lobelia to promote a thicker plant?

We always pinch ours.

does the Isotoma fade out in the heat like a lobelia?
@UpNorthGardenMIАй бұрын
I’ve never had it bothered by temperature - and PW lists it as a heat tolerant variety.

I thought you said that one or two petunias per 14 inch or even 16 inch is good.?? You are putting quite a few plants in now at one time. I don't understand what I should do now? Please help newbie here. Thankyou
@UpNorthGardenMIАй бұрын
If you give them time, a vigorous petunia will fill out a 14”… that allows each to reach their maximize size when you give them more room. If your goal is to use fewer plants, i have other videos that focus on that. This one focuses on the container recipes… these will fill out faster and will likely need more water than one with fewer. In my more recent video, I halved one of the recipes because it had so many vigorous plants.
