Hey guys! I took my son Ben out on a very brief rockhounding trip to find some Pyrite nodules. I am still in recovery, so I couldn't go out for too long, and the sun was blazing hot anyhow. Still, it felt good to get out of the house for even just a little bit. I had to enlist the help of my son in case I overdid it.
This is a pretty short video, but we found a few good things for the amount of time we spent exploring around. I hope you enjoy this brief trip. God bless!

Thanks for the shoutout on the nice one I missed. Glad you got it though! That was a nice one. I saw the screwdriver yesterday and moved it to a different spot for fun. But it’s still out there! I lost a chisel also yesterday. So it’s out there too

Not all rockhounding requires a sledgehammer! And this is proof that you can't keep a good rouckhound down. Love the pyrite! Best wishes for a speedy recovery, brother! Hope to run into you out in the field again soon!

Thank you, my friend!! Yeah, we just couldn’t stay for too long. I was worn out, and the sun was frying my bald head. 🤣😂 Looking forward to seeing Chris’s video of your trip out there with him, hopefully it’ll come out soon!

Nice I collect those in Texas in a variety of different shale formations that contain fossils. I found the best way to clean them is with an ultrasonic cleaner combined with a lot of scrubbing with a brass brush and picking with a dental pick.

Not only are some of those beautiful Razorback red crystals pyrite, but some altered into marcasite while retaining the pyrite habit (marcasite pseudomorph after pyrite)! I didn't realize this until one of my nodules with cubes on the outside broke and I saw the radial crystalline pattern of marcasite on the inside.

Thank you!! I noticed that radial crystallization on a few pieces before…it’s very interesting! I’ve been to this location a number of times before and always seem to walk away with some nice finds.

Also, I have found some that looked purple too. The reddish ones are probably my favorites. The hard part is trying to preserve them so they stay nice.

Yeah, he and Tony got there about a week before my son Ben and I were there. They got the good stuff. 🤣😂 Seriously though, we were just surface searching more than anything and I didn’t really feel like digging. Chris and Tony found a great spot and we’re wise to keep digging into it to see what else was in there, and it paid off!! They had a lot of really great finds!!
