I’ll have some new videos coming shortly. As for the Corolla, yes, I’m still driving it but not as much as I used to because I got another car. My last mileage milestone video was when I hit 430,000 miles, I believe. That was quite some time ago. Right now I only have about 430,700 miles on it. Just haven’t been driving it as much as I used to. But it still runs great! Over the summer I did spend a bundle of money to get the entire car detailed both inside and out. It had gotten pretty trashed over the last three years. Now it looks brand new, so I plan on doing a video just to show off the car even though there is no mileage milestone to celebrate. In three more years the car will be 20 years old - a classic!

I've never been inside of a mine. Truth be told, I probably never will. I do ,however, follow a few mining exploration channels that love to wander about in the dust of those old mines out West. While I enjoy, vicariously, walking along with them, along the way, I have also developed an admiration for those "crusty" miners of long ago. They lived in small cabins or tents, ate their meals from tin cans and rolled their cigarettes from loose leaf tobacco and opened their steel canned beers with a "church key." With dynamite, picks and shovels, they wrested from the earth the minerals which fueled the bon fire of our industrial revolution. In between hauling out loads, they found time to leave their mark with the smoke from their carbide lamps. As always, enjoyed the video.

Well that was certainly an adventure. Your taking the boards over those pits reminds me of when I was a young punk working installing a/c in the Bakersfield area. We were in an attic and there was a gas leak, could smell it strong. I said to the old timer I was with, "You don't think it will explode do you?" He thought for a moment and drawled, "Probably won't." Same logic applies crossing on those boards. A great adventure that was like a dirty ride on the "Thunder Mountain Railroad" at Disneyland. That thing snaked all over the place.

Hey, Stan! I really like your use of the phrase “dirty ride on Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland“ to describe this adventure. Believe me, I was somewhat hesitant about crossing those last two bridges. At that point, the other three guys I was with were way ahead of me looking for the exit. It would’ve been foolish and senseless for me to turn around and go back the way we came because we had climbed up so many hundreds of feet of ladders. I had to press on and catch up to them. And I did. Despite spending approximately six hours exploring this massive, multilevel mine, I didn’t lose any flashlights in it! Making progress….

Quite often old mines like these are purchased by large mining companies who then go in and either rehabilitate the tunnels or, depending on the location, dig a big open-pit mine to extract whatever ore the old-time miners left behind or weren’t able to discover. I don’t think there are any plans for that happening here at this particular mine, but who knows. Thanks for tagging along and checking out the video and for taking the time to write a comment. hey! I've been watching your videos for a long time and I've always been wondering how you manage to find these places? Me and my friends have wanted to explore our own share of interesting abandoned places like the ones you explore (except maybe a little less dangerous) except we have a hard time finding good onws to explore. How do you do it?
@AbandonedMines11 Жыл бұрын
A good place to start is finding some mines that you want to explore. You can find those by looking at other peoples’ KZbin channels, websites, photos, and stuff like that. Once you’re able to figure out where the mine is located, check some topographic maps as well as Google Earth satellite imagery to get the lay of the land and to determine what the roads and trails are like and just how remote the mine is. Most of these mines are extremely remote, so getting there is half the battle. I’ve also found a lot of useful information in old mining reports that you can sometimes find online for free. Some of them even have maps of the underground workings in some of these old mines! Can’t beat that!

@@AbandonedMines11 oh, I know, hahaha. I was just thinking aloud that it resembles "rainbow Anthracite" just from how the light was hitting it. Talc mines would be much worse than coal structurally.

I can pretty much attest to what you said about talc mines. Been in a lot of them out here and they are quite sketchy.

6 years after you uploaded that creepy whisper waldeck mine video, I decided to ask chatgpt to create a story about it. Here is what chatgpt responded: Once upon a time, in the depths of the Australian outback, there was a famous KZbinr known as "Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places." With an adventurous spirit and a loyal following, he was always on the hunt for the most intriguing locations to document on his channel. One stormy evening, as rain poured from the heavens and the wind howled through the barren landscape, the KZbinr found himself near the infamous Waldeck mine. Legends and rumors surrounded this abandoned mine, claiming that it was haunted by the spirits of miners who had lost their lives there long ago. Equipped with his trusted KN-12 flashlight, the KZbinr saw this as the perfect opportunity to test its capabilities and thrill his subscribers. Ignoring the rational voice in his head, he decided to venture into the treacherous depths of the mine, braving the relentless rain and strong gusts of wind. As he descended deeper into the eerie darkness, the atmosphere grew increasingly ominous. Dripping water echoed through the labyrinthine tunnels, creating an eerie symphony that sent shivers down his spine. The beams of his flashlight cut through the thick darkness, illuminating rusted machinery and forgotten tools that lay scattered along the way. But as he journeyed further, strange occurrences began to unfold. Shadows danced and flickered along the walls, playing tricks on his mind. The temperature dropped dramatically, causing his breath to materialize as a ghostly mist. Each step he took seemed to echo ominously, as if the mine itself was alive and watching. Undeterred by these supernatural phenomena, the KZbinr pressed on, determined to capture every spine-chilling moment. However, the whispers that initially blended with the wind grew louder and more distinct, as if whispering secrets from beyond the grave. The KZbinr's heart raced, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, but his curiosity got the better of him. With each passing step, the whispers grew more insistent, their spectral voices weaving a tale of tragedy and despair. The KZbinr's hands trembled, his voice quivering as he tried to maintain his composure for his audience. But deep down, fear gnawed at him, and doubts started to creep into his mind. Finally, as the whispers reached a crescendo, the KZbinr made a fateful decision. He realized that he had ventured too far into the depths of the Waldeck mine. Overwhelmed by a sense of impending doom, he turned on his heels and retraced his steps, the flashlight trembling in his grasp. Every nerve in his body screamed for him to flee, as if the very air around him had become tainted with malevolence. The rain continued to pour relentlessly, washing away his footprints, as if nature itself wished to erase any trace of his presence in that cursed place. Reaching the mine's entrance, the KZbinr emerged, gasping for breath, drenched by the rain that had soaked him to the bone. He knew that he had narrowly escaped something truly sinister lurking within the Waldeck mine. With trembling hands, he ended his livestream, vowing never to return to that forsaken place. From that day forward, the KZbinr's content took a different turn. He explored abandoned buildings and forgotten landmarks, but the memories of the haunted Waldeck mine haunted him still. And though he never spoke of the experience again, the whispers of that fateful night continued to linger in his dreams, a chilling reminder of the darkness that lurks in the depths of the unknown.

Hi! Yes, everything is going great! Took the summer off from exploring abandoned mines. But I’m still here! What’s your idea?

@@AbandonedMines11 I love your cooking videos. I like camping style food. Make anything you like, but do it in the desert with your car. :) You know, if I could visit USA, I would not go see the Grand Canyon, or go to Las Vegas. I would want to experience the Death valley. Are you aware of any good books (fictional, nonfictional) that take place in Death valley? Keep up the good work! Love your videos.

I’m not really aware of any fiction or nonfiction books that take place in Death Valley. At least not that I can think of off the top of my head.

@@AbandonedMines11 I heard that Death valley is closed now, perhaps even for a year due to the hurricane Hillary. Does that mean you won't be able to visit the valley?
@AbandonedMines11 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that late August storm certainly did a number on Death Valley. Right afterward, the entire park was closed because every road had serious flood damage. As of today, a lot of the main paved roads are now back open after being repaired, but I think most of the dirt roads in the backcountry are still off-limits due to them assessing all of the damage and making repairs. Some of those dirt roads won’t be open, though, until probably late next year.

You're savages for climbing that 300 foot ladder. Hahahaha. How?! In the coal fields here that wood would be toast. You'd get smoked 20 or 30 feet up. Lol
@AbandonedMines11 Жыл бұрын
That’s one of the advantages of these mines in the desert - the arid climate preserves them pretty well. What I didn’t mention or show in the video is that ladder extended downward for another 300 feet or so! We got on it at its midway point and climbed the remaining 300 feet to the top. That shaft and ladder connect to the main haulage tunnel. So, yes, it was a little unnerving getting onto and climbing up that ladder knowing there was a 300 to 600 foot drop beneath us depending where we were on the ladder itself. Fortunately, a lot of it wasn’t straight up vertical but on a steep incline instead. Still….
