THE SEARCH FOR SALT MAKING IN PANGASINAN IS SUCCESSFUL.
After a failed attempt at visiting the salt ponds in Dasol, known for some of the Philippines finest salts, a chance encounter by the roadside in the last barangay of Pangasinan (part of San Fabian!) led to an unexpected discovery - salt refining beside the ocean!
After hunkering down for a couple of days hiding from the last of 6 typhoons in a row (unprecedented!) - I left Tarlac, this time alone, headed for Ilocos Region.
A chance encounter led me to be invited into a salt refinery - an interesting process as they mixed local salt with Australian salt for their final product - before I wandered into some grape farms up the road in Bauang, La Union.
The coastal road through Luna has a few spots... a beachside place with lots of stones, and an old watchtower!
But more exciting was the mountain road from Alilem to Suyo in Ilocos Sur... the corners!
Ilocos Region - let's be delving deeper!
