Your advice, perspective and honesty, resonate with me in a way that made my head and heart harmonize. There was a lovely and calming hum, an "A-ha!"epiphany. Last year, I started seeing a new therapist. In one of our first appointments, she inquired; " what do you do with all your emotions?" I didn't understand what she meant exactly, "do you mean like how do I cope with my emotions?" My therapist rephrased; "What do you do with all the energy that your emotions create? " I was still confused, and it was obvious. I was giving homework for the first time. I've been in therapy on and off for about 15 years. I've never had homework. I want you take this canvas, and I want you to get some acrylic paint and a few brushes. Sit with those items and ask yourself how you feel, and then paint it for me. I did what I was instructed to do , but after 15 mins nothing was painted. I sat for 30 more mins. Then an hour before scofffing and giving up. I just couldn't get the question out of my mind. I was really taken aback to realize I didn't have an answer. 4 days went by with intermittenly sitting and staring at a blank canvas. I had no idea what the fuck my therapist wanted me to fucking do! I'm not an artist! I decided to look up "painting emotions" on Reddit, Pinterest, and KZbin. I watch and read tons of things about how some people utilize art to express themselves, their experiences, and their emotions. Okay, I knew that! Duh, I know what art is. But I had no idea HOW to paint my emotions!! Nothing. Was helping me solve my problem and I only had 2 days until therapy. WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN, "PAINT MY EMOTIONS??! HOW ABOUT I PAINT YOU MY ASSHOLE! " I was getting really frustrated with. I knowing WTF I should do. In a childish fit I took the canvas and threw it on the ground. I slammed the paints on the floor, I stepped on them,kicked it all round, and then when there was paint all over everything in the garage. I cried. Hard. I just didn't understand!! Then I look at the canvas, half way across the room, with the most hypnotizing and consuming spiral of paint splashed all over it. Then I understood. What my therapist meant. Ever since, I've been trying to learn how to draw and paint, ( both are fucking overwhelming to learn sometimes.) for the first time in my whole life painting has allowed me to feel proud of something I've done. I've always been ignored, corrected, or made fun by my family. It was hard growing up in an abusive household, it caused me to date abusive people. Painful. Those abusive situations made me hate myself, and I sought to be kinda like rosemary kennedy. A pretty zombie. This only lead to more pain. I landed a dream job of mine when I was 25, only to encounter a coworker who refused to accept my opinions and my rejection. I was stalked, harassed and eventually assaulted. When your in survival mode for so long, you stop enjoying things, easy things are difficult, you struggle leaving the house, you have panic attacks waiting in check out lines... When I showed the painting to my therapist her jaw dropped! She said yes that what I wanted you do to. Ive fallen for the process of creation. Thank you for reassuring me that I don't have to be the best, I don't need to make insane amounts of money.....I don't have to know every technique. Thank you for reminding me to be flexible with the process because I'm not doing this for anyone but myself first. It's a very beautiful way to work through my trauma! 💜🩵

I LOVE the art studio as your own laboratory, where you hold a vision but everything is an experiment, and where curiosity is king, and humility to play around with others ideas through commissions, and see it all as experiments and practice while not loosing sight of your nugget if a vision

i often struggle with the feeling that art is not good enough and i wonder how professional artists deal with this mental setback.
@ZhannaTsytsyn
@ZhannaTsytsyn 24 күн бұрын
Struggling with a feeling of your art not being good enough is often a good indicator that you really care about what you create. Because you care, you will put time and energy into your craft and you will become better and better over time. I have never met a professional artist who doesn't at some point in their career (usually in the beginning stages of learning how to trust yourself as an artist) feel this way. What one learns over time is that the process is more important than the outcome. Who you as an artist become during the process is how you develop your trust in your art and skill. You will get to the point where your distinct use of line, color, and shape which holds the artists essence will overtime become your signature as an artist. Embrace it, that's what makes you, YOU! ❤

@ZhannaTsytsyn

@Piasays The "TS" makes the same sound as saying "Its" without the "I"...and the "y" in Tsytsyn sounds like the "I" in "Its"...so pronunciation is "Tsitsin"
