Crazy shout for France, but Dayot Upamecano is their BEST player right now. He's been pretty much the only player of the newer generation to never drop out of France's Starting XI (not counting rests) and has performed every time for them. Starting a world cup final for example shows that level, and he isnt Deschamps No. 1 CB without reason. France struggle the most in defense, when he doesnt play. That alone ranks him above Konate and Saliba (two other insanely good CB's). At club level, I think he currently has the most difficult job in top class world football alongside Minjae and Barcelona's CB duo. He is trusted to cover an entire half of the pitch by himself and he does so INSANELY well. Hasn't dropped a single bad performance all season, even when facing a team like Frankfurt who are a highlines kryptonite, he wasn't the reason Bayern struggled. Same goes for Villa and Barcelona. He concedes hardly any chances at all (the least in the top 5 leagues I believe) and has only looked a bit more vunerable when facing players in insane form, like a Raphinha or Marmoush, who will score every time they do manage to get past him. And in addition to all that, he is also fantastic on the ball. People like Var Var won't see it though because of his terrible games vs City. I dont see anyone at France who can currently even compete with him, definitely not a completely out of form (and terrible captain), Mbappe.
