I'm just gonna drop this here since Arcade Sticks are something I always liked to talk about, so in case anyone is wondering "why do people still use these", here's a little ted-talk: One reason is of course nostalgia. But the big one is that most combo systems in fighting game heavily rely on cancels, which require you to perform inputs in quick succession. Smash doesn't really use cancels outside of Ryu, Ken, and Terry. You don't cancel a move into another, you *link* them. To do these quick button presses it's often simply way more comfortable to have your hand resting on the controller, enabling you to use more than just 2 or 3 fingers while you can dedicate your other hand entirely to stick movement, which also has to be precise and quick and makes use of unusual motions (like the legendary pretzel input). Seriously, try this on a normal controller: Use your stick to draw a half circle from right to down to left, then immediately push right again and press A and B in quick succession. How fast? Ideally you want to press B one or two frames (aka 1 or 2 60ths of a second) after A. This is the input for a Kara Potemkin Buster. And hell on a controller. These control schemes have their roots way back in the past. Old arcade cabinet layouts influenced the way fighting games are played and in turn nowadays fighting games pass that influence on to the peripherals we use. Smash ain't different. It's not all black and white of course, games or even specific characters/techniques can be more comfortable on a pad than on a stick and player preference is a thing. Some pro players even switch back and forth during a tournament. DBFZ explicitly avoided inputs not well-suited for a typical controller. So the tldr is: Execution in fighting games was heavily influenced by old arcades. The techniques and conventions from this era are still around and can be uncomfortable to make use of on a pad. Since these games often can't really make use of an additional stick or dpad many players opt for a stick to make said inputs easier. And now I slink back into my cave again.

@yehoshuas.69173 жыл бұрын
@@bobbyzeitgeist1842 I use a power-a wireless controller, though I don't play smash. It's pretty good imo; I play Super Metroid with it, PC games like Dark Souls, Hollow Knight, Ori 2, etc. So it's fine with precise movement, pairing up via bluetooth (unlike Gamecube I assume unless they changed that), feels comfortable, has programmable buttons, good layout, etc. The thing I noticed about it when I got it was that it did feel a little light (especially without batteries), and I've never had a Pro or XBox or Playstation controller so dunno how different that is. I also have gamecube controllers and those feel lighter (when you have batteries inside the powera). I'd imagine if you used a wired power-a controller it would be too light, unless they build it differently to account for that. Anyway, I've had it for quite a while and it's very good for me. The joysticks don't have notches if you're into that. They also have different art choices for colors or even prints from popular games, and it's just straight up cheaper than the Pro. Would highly recommend, though again, I don't play smash.

As a person who actually owns two beboncool controllers, I was going to get a normal pro controller, but then I wanted my brother to play smash with me too so I got two of those. Plus they feel a lot better with rubber thumb stick caps.

Same, I found a Beboncool controller digging through a pool of random stuff at a store and since it was like $10 I bought it and it has been such a good controller with rubber caps, kinda sad how Little Z didn't find it good given it's one of the best third party pro controllers out there

6:19 Weird, because it's the same as the Xbox 360 controller, which is regarded as one of the most comfortable controllers.

Quick recommendation if you ever make a part 2 of this, hori split pad pro joycons and binbok joycons are amazing alternatives for regular joycons (though hori split pad only works on tablet mode so getting footage may be a problem)

i dont think the hori split pad can be used wirelessly, might put a spanner in the works

Honestly, I'll take a 7/10 for the Joy cons, the only real reason I prefer them is because I get to use motion controls on Splatoon 2

What do you mean? Every controller is the Little Z's controller

7:22 it's only called the c-stick on N64 and GameCube controllers, on all of the others, it's called the right-stick, or r-stick

One of the best interactions of the pro controller is the power A ultra controller or whatever it is. Super nice to hold. And good inputs and customizable sticks.

So… would the joycon connection controller thing that comes with the switch bring the joycon variants up? I imagine that it would have saved the joy cube controller from their low score.

Leaving the Apple ecosystem was the most rewarding tech decision I have ever made. Switching from Gamecube controller to pro controller is 2nd

As someone that uses pro controllers. I’ve noticed how it sometimes have some really annoying input delay online. Might just be me though

I love specifically when smash youtubers use "you will know our names" as background music and time themselves losing to the beat of the song

I'm actually using a double joycon for 2 years in smash and I'm very good with (I try the gamecube one, but I don't like it because the buttons position, it's weird for me who with double joycon normally).

Personally, I use a switch pro controller in smash. It just meshes into my hands so well. I also just can't get used to the a and b buttons on the gamecube controller.

I'm genuinely suprised that the 8bitdo controller turned out to be good! I thought that all of the 3rd party stuff would just be crap. If it's not too expensive I might wanna grab one of those. As a Playstation fan as well, having the sticks at the bottom feels nice to me. Pro Controller still slaps though

Feel like you should've remapped your buttons every time you switched controllers. When I occasionally do single player stuff in Smash handheld I have special moves on Y and regular attacks on B so it's closer to a GameCube layout.

You know what is good? Seeing a Little Z video on your frontpage, because you always know they will be quality content. (Except for the squad strike videos, but the man need views)
