Sweet box, but I kinda lost interest when you started in on how “embarrassing” it must be to operate out of a US General box. There is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of. Your new box has some sweet features that make it an extremely nice box, but by no means does it mean you should be ashamed of anything less. For the money, it is very difficult to argue with the us general box/carts.

I got a extreme 72" crx series roller. It's great for the price I use it professionally every day. The big difference between my box or any cheap box compared to snap on is the slides. My box is 150-300lb per drawer depending on the amount of slides. I've found this perfectly adequate I've had no issues and I have 30 years worth of tools. But the good thing is you can upgrade your slides on a need to do basis just measure yours and order some online that will hold more wieght. The snap on box that compares to mine is $12000 more so I have plenty of room to spend on slides if I ever feel the need.

These are good boxes, I know a handful of techs that have them. But as the dude stated, this is by no means a pro grade box, it's an entry level box. I currently own the 72" us gen and it's more than adequate. In the end, get what you can afford and what best fits your needs. Great job on the vid bro!

You are exactly right, it's not snap on but you did not spend 8,000.00 for it either. I own a fairly new 42" black tool box with a bottom and top section and the same drawer layout and I love it. Never thought that I could fill it ou in a lifetime but you know what, it's been maybe 4 or 5 years now and it's already full. I'm envious of your 54" box, the colour and the locking drawers. Great purchase. You will enjoy that box every time you open it. Cheers

I bought a ball bearing Craftsman chest about 20 years ago. At the time I didn't need a big chest and actually, they really weren't in style. These 54" chests that are 6ft tall in all the big box stores is kind of a new thing. At any rate, I'm looking for a 72" bottom chest. When I compare just about everything to that little 26" chest I bought 20 years ago, Craftsman used to make some nice chests! And all these years, I've just kind of thought of it as a cheap chest.

I just watched the same video with a harbor freight box and the guy compared it to homak and swore the US General was way sturdier and better built than Homak. He even did the same “shake” test to prove it. Obviously whatever you spend your money on is the best value around. You only need to convince yourself of that. You can buy the US General for half as much and there is no way Homak is twice as good. There are way to many positive reviews out there to doubt the value of a US General box.

As somebody pointed out in another video, all toolboxes are nothing more than folded steel. Sure, they can use better sliders and build to tighter tolerances. But there's nothing about the big names that makes them worth three times the price. They don't have magic steel, the slides aren't forged by elves. It's absurd to think that I paid half as much for the truck in my driveway as some people pay for a toolbox. There are no options for us po' folks anymore. Even HF has priced itself out of reach of many people. I really need to upgrade my old 26" US General box. But to step up to just a 36" Homak combo would cost me around $1,500. That's ten times what I paid for the HF box. I like some of the features of that Homak, but it's still overpriced. Just upgrading to the new version of my old box would still cost me over $500. With new boxes being so expensive, even the used market is getting stupid. About the only way to get a "cheap" toolbox these days is to cut out the middleman and get one straight off Alibaba from the same manufacturer the big guys get them from.

Hello Jay Flat Out I just found your channel and I subscribed. The title bar says this Video is two years old. Based on that fact. How has Homak 54" box held up. Are there any hindsight issues that you have encountered? If so what would you do differently? Did anything pop up that would make you say the purchase was either good or bad? Now you maybe asking why. I too am researching for my next Toolbox purchase. My current Toolbox is a 9-drawer Craftsman. Roughly about five years old. It measures 41"x18", I think. I've been a diesel mechanic for 15 yrs now and still work out of the same two crafsman tool boxes I ever bought. Only added a snap on roll cart. Tool box and tools don't make the mechanic his skills do. I have all brands of tools not biased on just one brand. But o do have one rule. If the tool breaks more than twice I buy a more expensive brand.

You did ok, but when price comparing your 55 inch box set you stated the harbor freight box bottom price was $1100. Thats for their 72 inch box. Your now comparing apples to oranges and lost all credibility in your comparison. You do have a nice box but for the best box for the money, you just got smoked. Everybody wants a nice box.....ball bearing slides are a must, storage capacity is up to the buyers needs and how easily the drawer shuts or how it looks is just a preference. I want most of my tools in one place and in a nice box but its the thousands of dollars of tools and the convenience of not having to pile them or dig around for them that matters. Everything else is just eye candy. Spend the money on the tools you NEED not the eye candy box you WANT. With that said Harbor Freight and Husky boxes look really good.

imperfections and dents quite common on homak and dents more so on napa sourced due to multi shipping so when possible bit of a look at loading stage could be wise . They pretty good layout for 54", The masteforce 72" is best 72" buy IMO . masterforce latches and drawer stiffness is better but layout on under 72" not the best, even the 72" could do with shallow drawers replacing 1 deep on all 3 banks . Homak for home use is likely lifetime in sensible use and storage location, see plenty us general and husky do 5 to 10 years in daily shop use and the homak is bit better. do realize that HF us general has 2 factories making the boxes and one is far better in drawer stiffness, slides and the pull latch quality . I like old matco 55" boxes, used truck at sensible money always best buy but struggle get them easily these days .

Nice vid. Did you consider Milwaukee's 46" box? Go Ducks!

I did and it’s a nice looking box, I believe the homak is more professional grade though rather than consumer, but the Milwaukee does have some desirable features.

For perhaps 90% of us, paying a small fortune for tool boxes doesn't make sense. Tools exist to solve problems. This is why what matters most is the tool user's skill at applying tools to solve problems. A really good tech can solve a problem with mediocre tools. An ineffective tech can't fix things properly with the best tools. We've all heard it said that it's a poor workman who blames his tools, so it follows that blaming one's tool BOX would send an even clearer message. I have Craftsman boxes from around 2010. With some modification and a modicum of care, they serve me adequately and free up budget to buy other things--like food.

$1,100 for the US general roller?! Were the heck did you go? the 56 US General is HALF the Homak! Not arguing quality because I've used Homak and and US General and think Homak is better but $800 US vs $1,800 Homak for just the roller its not as clear cut.

A Guy buys an awesome new corvette. Even guys with a Ferrari dont say, "oh but a ferrari.... A guy buys a nice new tool box, lots of guys who dont even have a box....and who will never be able to afford much of anything....those guys say, "oh i would never buy anything except a snap-on." Translation: Since I will never be able to afford a toolbox, and I'm jealous of what you have, I may as well say that I would buy something that many people feel is overpriced ....and only justified for people who work with it 40 hours a week. Even if he won a snap on box in a raffle he would then have a $10,000 toolbox sitting next to a $1500 beat ass 1973 Datsun truck .... yep i said datsun. And we wont even talk about those guys who Buy a 10000$ box, which is 25% of what the earn in a year. The "loser" uses an older used box, banks his money, and 5 years later puts his money down on a far more important box, which is the one he lives in, also called a house. Run your own life and listen to those who will help you get ahead.....save, invest, collect assets....not liabilities. When you later are wealthy....then buy whatever you like.
