Featuring amateur archaeologist, enthusiast and multi-award winning investigative filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici, The Naked Archaeologist is an irreverent, entertaining and eye-opening journey into the fascinating archaeology of the ancient world. Along the way, new discoveries are made, lost treasures revealed, and ancient mysteries uncovered.
For thousands of years people have wondered which peak in the Sinai Peninsula is the legendary mountain where Moses is supposed to have received the 10 commandments. Our investigation demonstrates that the mountain where Popes and tourists trek on pilgrimage is not Mt. Sinai. Using the Bible and archaeology as guides, we identify the only mountain that fits all the Biblical criteria.

Dear@@markzylstra2947 , Do you understand the significant distinction between "Arabia" (Ἀραβία in the Scriptures) and Saudi Arabia, within the historical context of the 1st century ? You realize the geographical boundaries of nations and land areas change over time, right ? The "Ἀραβία" Paul spoke of in Gal. 1:17, and 4:25, historically refers to an area south of Palestine, probably on the Sinai Peninsula. So essentially, Paul is saying Mt. Sinai is in an area south of Palestine, on the Sinai Peninsula. This does not fit the location of Jabal Lawz. Another Scriptural indicator of the location of Mt Sinai (Mt. Horeb), is that it is 11 day travel to Kadesh Barnea. We do have an accurate understanding of where Kadesh Barnea is located. There are many sites in the Sinai Peninsula that are 11 days travel to Kadesh Barnea, but Jabal Lawz is too far away to fit that Scriptural location indicator. (I understand some Jabal Lawz advocates have solved this problem by simply moving Kadesh Barnea. How about that, moving the location of a city to fit your hypothesis !) There are many other location indicators for Mt. Sinai that Jabal Lawz doesn't meet very well. There are other mountains on the Sinai Peninsula that fit most of these geographical indicators, and other indicators, much better than Jabal Lawz. I would ask you if you have looked at and considered the various pros and cons of the many Mt. Sinai candidates ? Many people don't actually evaluate the various views and just latch on to the first idea that moves their emotions. This is not the attitude of an informed reasonable Christian. We are to test and evaluate for truth. (Proverbs 18:17, Acts 17:11, 1 Thess. 5:21) I used to be an advocate of Jabal Lawz as the genuine Mt Sinai, and I used to consider the claims of Wyatt to be reliable, until I started studying the Scriptures in depth. Now I see significant problems with the idea of Jabal Lawz is Mt Sinai and even more significant problems with the claims and discoveries of Wyatt. I believe the Scriptures should be the priority and not the artifacts. What one finds should not be contrary with Scripture. You may want to look at the site (and KZbin Videos) of "Associates For Biblical Research". They are genuine Christians who are trained, credentialed Archaeologists and have some very good information to defend the historicity of the Scriptures. Be Well DZ

The earliest mention seems to be in Exodus 19:2-3 as far as i can see: "Having journeyed from Rephidim, they entered the wilderness of Sinai and encamped in the wilderness. The Cairo route would be through the sea of reeds and nowhere near the St Catherine Sinai. Luxor would be across the Red sea and right past it. Who were the Hyksos and the Hibiru? Wasn't the Exodus from the threat of slavery after Akhenaten was deposed and monotheism was no longer allowed? In part 2 SJ finds a much better candidate...

If you would study the issue and mindfully consider the various theories on the location of Mt Sinai, you would realize (as I did) that Wyatt's idea is contrary to Scripture and irrational. I no longer believe Wyatt's claim to have found Mt Sinai has ANY rational credibility. I to once drank the Wyatt kool-aid, but when I started studying the issue in depth, I realized how absurd his idea is, and how it does not fit Scripture. His perspective and method is just so superficial, and just plain unreasonable. He is a pseudo-archaeologist who does not understand much about archaeology, or how to research the Biblical text. His "discoveries" are often contrary to the Scriptural Text. (example: Jebel Lawz is certainly not 11 days journey from Kadesh Barnea as the Scriptures clearly say, SO Wyatt changed the location of Kadesh Barnea, and many of his followers are not sharp enough to see how he tricked them. He tries to relocate and re-identify so many know sites, to fit his theory and his followers typically never catch on to what he is doing) Looking back I now realize how naive and gullible I was to believe Wyatt has any legitimate Biblical discoveries. I was so childish in my approach to truth. Instead of Wyatt's methodology, I now use the Scriptures and sound scholarship, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to guide me in my thinking and Biblical research. I will not be fooled again by people like Wyatt because I will follow the way of the nobel minded Bereans, and check claims carefully against Scripture. Genuine evidence is now much more exciting instead of the allegations of evidence, that Wyatt tries to convince people of (Wyatt always told every one of the evidence he found, but he never presented the evidence for any one to see and examine; never). Open, honest, intelligently seeking minds, please and honor our great God. Be Well DZ

He also has a reputation for stretching and twisting the true, and for failing to follow the Scriptural texts in his interpretations of the data. You say the “Holy” mountain where “Moses” received the “Ten Commandments” from “God”. If there is any story here, it’s actually about the mountain on which Moses ascended and engraved the stones himself. The so called “Ten Commandments” predated Jewish culture and religion by many many years. See the Code of Hammurabi. Faith is a personal issue. Religion is “crowd control” and that’s what “Moses” had in mind. If the Exodus ever actually happened, then “Moses” had to come up with a system of crowd control.

''The Bible was created during a time where stories were verbally passed down over hundreds of years. Stories constantly morphed and changed over time, and the Bible is a collection of these. This is why it has the nearly identical flood fable story from Gilgamesh, and why Jesus has the same characteristics as Dionysus, Osiris, Horus, Mithra, and Krishna. The contradictions and immorality in the stories are not evidence that God is flawed or evil, but rather that humans invented him, just like the thousands of other gods that we used to, but no longer believe in.'' ..and to answer the questions of the many fears and mysteries of our universe, like 'thunder' and earthquakes, since there was no science yet. That was the old Testament!

ok ….truth is im jealous… i wish i had a job were i could play Indian jones. ‘ for real: your approach, along with everyone else, is one where you pick and choose what “evidence” to acknowledge”, and If it needs a little manipulation to get the result you want, yall have no shame in doing so. How bout you try and use your indiana jones skills and apply your knowledge with america as your geography. Just try… see what happens… Mt sinai is a volcano… for more info as to why an educated hypothesis would describe the mountain as such can be found via the works of Charles Beke… to best of my knowledge there is no volcanoes over there… however America, in the sierra nevadas… and in new mexico etc… are lots of volcanoes… what other biblical geography can we find over there… well how bout Lebanon being in northern california… with its majestic snow (white) capped mountains and its redwoods aka the cedars of Lebanon, which are the largest trees on earth. and to the west lies the great sea which is the pacific… the largest body of water on the planet… then you got the dead sea which is the great salt lake, which incidentally is like 10x larger than the fake dead sea over there… and connecting the great salt lake (dead sea) with the sea of Galilee aka utah lake.. is the jordan river, conveniently named so. Theirs even the Moab … there are ancient petroglyphs all over everywhere… the Mississippi is the Euphrates’s… now i could actually see Moses getting lost in the desert in Arizona/new mexico/southerncali for 40 years.. incidentally all maps prior to 1750… and some after i think the last one was early 1900’s, show cali as an island… and they all label the body of water in between the island of cali and the main land “the red sea” Literally it all makes sense and there is no need to omit parts or come up with ridiculous explanations … the hardest part for anyone brave enough to just see if im right is approaching this with an unbiased mind. I hope somebody at the very least checks this out.. ive been constantly harassed for sharing this info… this is one of those thing where you have to see for yourself and cant just take someones word for it… anyway… my ambition and motivation comes from a place of love and the theory that if the world is to find any sort of peaceful equilibrium it will have to do so from a solid truthful foundation… not the rotten one we have now where everyone has an identity crisis and are so disconnected from everything/everyone.

Its more of assumptions but not on actual visible, physical evidence.. he is basing his assumptions more on northernmost part of red sea According to some modern biblical scholars Moses and the israelites crossed the REED sea or sea of reeds and not red sea..its actually a lake in northern egypt ..im more convinced that its the Mt. Karkoum which is the real Mt. Sinai base on its topography, physical evidences like altar, 12 huge stones symbolizing 12 tribes of israel, and petroglyphs of stine tablets.

Josephus wrote that Mount Sinai was "between Egypt and Arabia" and it was "the highest of all the mountains that are in that country, and is not only very difficult to be ascended by men, on account of its vast altitude but because of the sharpness of its precipices." (The Antiquities of the Jews, Chapter 5) That would suggest Mount Catherine.

Of course the works of Josephus are not "God-breathed". The Mt. Catherine location does not fit the Scriptural data. Be Well DZ

Dear@@hdnparker Saudi Arabia does not fit the Scriptural data. Paul gives a different location. In Gal. 4:25, Paul clearly implies that the location of Mt. Sinai is in "Ἀραβία," not the land of Saudi Arabia. Every archaeologist and Biblical scholar knows that in those days that referred to the area south of Palestine, which places Mt Sinai in the Sinai Peninsula (is it so hard to imagine a Mountain called "Mt. Sinai" being located on the Sinai Peninsula, Duh !) Wyatt, of course is not a biblical Scholar (a man who studies the Scriptures as his life's works and really knows the Scriptures) or a archaeologist, so it is understandable that these are things that he is unaware of, hence resulting is his many misconceptions. His idea is not even in the ballpark, so to speak. Be Well DZ

This all started with Father Abraham. Everyone else followed. According to Scripture; (Gen 13:1) And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, INTO THE SOUTH. Egypt is in Africa, and the South is South Africa. "The Liars have produced many new Bible Versions JUST to hide the fact, all Bible events took place in Africa"
