I love this series! Simcha’s sense of humor comes from where you least expect it. I really like this approach to never stop questioning. I really hope this show is still on.

This is a great overview look at Masada. Though this is the case, I'm not sure why he insists on the possibility of Christians being at the site. Sure, it's possible, but without any evidence at all, you could also say there's a chance that it was also inhabited by...well...anyone.

Maybe because of the Nazrene scroll and mass suicide after Passover. Like Tabor said, it is very chilling. Hope the scroll is not lost and it shows up in the future.

The important thing to remember is that for the Romans Masada was just Hill 34. It was merely an engineering problem.

I'm a Christian. But have a Master's degree in Theology, Ph.D. in History and post-doctoral work in Archaeology. That background is part of the reason I've always loved this series. BUT. Even though I'm a Christian, I don't see Christianity as completely distinct from Judaism. For the first few hundred years, Christianity was a Jewish sect, not a different religion. Christians are the theological (and for many of us somewhere back 1000-2000 years) biological descendants of Judaism and/ or the Jewish people.. Just like within Christian denominations, I urge everyone to look at our similarities rather than focusing on our differences. This also applies to Islam, which is also a "religion of the book." The world would be a far better place if we did so.

@Memphis Mark I agree with you. However, if you have read the Quran, you'd understand that they do not have the same beliefs as Christians and Jews. The Quran is a twisted version of the Bible. They can NEVER be the same.

I agree but if you don't follow the God of Abraham or the God of David (same God) then you're following a false god.

Not trying to be a jerk but factually if Christianity and Judaism really are more similar than meets the eye then why aren't all Jews now Christians or vice versa? Simply because they are extremely different. Yes, there are definite similarities but there are far more differences. Paul the Apostle made sure of this. A Christian once told me that the Christian Testament is just as important as the Torah and just as good. When I first read the Christian Testament...from a Jewish perspective, it doesn't even come close to Torah. The Christian Testament reads like a smut magazine compared.

I read that there was a militant ,named John the Essene who led rebels and if I remember was also at Masada? The Essenes have been shown to have strong commonalities with the early Jude's Christians and possbly were one and the same people . So it is very possible even probable that early Christians fought at Masada and elsewhere against Rome.

If anything u need to be excavating the sides and summit of the mountain i bet they wouldn't waste the city with fire. Tell me where they got the wood for funeral pyres. Also why give your enemies a funeral? They chucked the bodies over the edge plain and simple

what is the difference between a Jew & a Jesus follower you ask? Then you state...one was waiting for the Messiah to come & the other was waiting for Him to come back. There is another big difference. One is following the Talmud & Jesus followers obey only the law God gave Moses & the prophets. Jesus railed against the man made laws that Pharisees made up often negating the law of God for their own personal political power.

To equate Jesus to the Sicarii is disgusting. Jesus helped the slave boy of the Roman and St.Peter baptized a Roman centurion and his family not including the romans in Rome that he baptized. Jesus wanted to incorporate Rome and defeat her that way not by bloodshed. It's disgusting that he says he feels for terrorists. Jesus refused to join with the sicarii or the zealots.

In Judaism the " Moschiah" is not to die as a pagan human sacrifice for sins of the world nor be Divine nor replaced Torah laws.. He must be from King David paternal line and fulfill Isaiah 2 and 12 as well as Ezekiel 37. No second coming. Ask any Orthodox Rabbi.
@zachpatterson4342 жыл бұрын
Isiah 53 Psalm 2 Psalm 110 Genesis 3:15 Daniel 7. I think you should take a look at the full picture of the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled over 300 OT prophecies and will fulfill the remaining in His second coming. There is overwhelming evidence that He was and is the Anointed one. Not to mention it was widespread interpretation that Messiah would be divine. The idea that He wasn’t to be divine and the scriptures were never interpreted that way is inaccurate. Jesus is the full and satisfying payment for the forgiveness of sins. Believe and live!

@@zachpatterson434 Not in original orthodox tanakh in context.. Not one of those passages you posted eludes to a " man god idol trinity human sacrifice for world sins to replace Judaism" is found anywhere in hebrew scripture . @@Nudnik1 Daniel chapter 9 is a time sensitive prediction. If Jesus of Nazareth wasn’t the Messiah, no one is. Also…Psalm 2 is even stronger in the original Hebrew. Also it was not an uncommon interpretation that Messiah would be divine during temple Judaism.

@@zachpatterson434 Moschiah is a mortal man not divine and fulfils Isaiah 2 and 11 Ezekiel 36-37 the first time he comes.. No second coming.. The Romans were using the temple as a bank, not the Jews. History is told by the WINNERS, not the losers. Germany invaded 1 nation (along with Russia, Poland) in 1939 and are accused of stating WWII. Yet Japan invaded China in 1937, and in 1941 and 1942 invaded or attacked over 20 NATIONS! WWII didn’t end until Japan surrendered in 1945, and that’s when our history books state WWII ended. Yet Germany is charged with starting the war? Ever heard of the Japanese military unit in China that was call unit 731? They did everything the Germans did plus some. Ever wonder why? The top German commanders were charged with war crimes. Yet what they were charged for our commanders did the same things. Like fire bombing of Tokyo, Dresden, Hamburg and countless other cities of the axis forces. That’s only one example you can look for yourselves. But understand the VICTORS write history. Always have always will. What real right did America and others have to invade Iraq, (the second time to eliminate Saddam) Panama, or Grenada. (I was involved with the last two, Ranger) These guys were bad and killed there own people? What about every leader of nations that do the same thing? We haven’t invaded them?
