@trappedinkalifornee Probably you are right. I don't know such a detail. I looked it up, and I remember this car from when I was very young. There were not many, and it looked kind of French. One of the less good-looking, older VW in my opinion.

I would be willing to bet those cars could be still solid after 30 or 40 years from now due to how little corrosion takes place out there let's see if they don't get buried over. But I guess it would make an interesting fun for an archaeologist one day probably over 100 years from now if the cars did get buried over. But great video always enjoy the documentation that you give in your videos and the sites that you explore keep up the great work and stay safe.

'66 VW fastback or rare German bubble top coupe, not readily imported into U.S. The boulder placed on floor so stolen stripped vehicle could have sufficient weight to pick up speed rolling down mountain. VW bug shell may have been tied on top of it, explaining why it landed beside it. Prolific car thief would be working within 5 miles of that location, circa 1969-1971, probably deceased.

Like the others said, a later Beetle because of the front fuel filler. It's fairly late I would gather as it has shoulder belts (or what's left of them). As others noted, probably joyridden or stolen years ago and pushed over the cliff to hide the crime or for "sport". Maybe they took bets on how far it would land.

They flipped way too easily, and way too often. Insurance companies quickly totaled them out, becoming $200-300 wreck purchases with 20,000 miles for used car dealers and body shops selling occasional cars on the side during slow season. So, cutting off old roof and welding on a new one created a lucrative "clean used car sale" when a good donor car was available. When a good cheap donor car was not found, it was a stretch to find one. It may have been sold at the closest big city, for top dollar and fast financing. Unlikely to be sold out in the remote areas, though fixed up nearby there. Loanability limits the used car window to no more than 2 years old where resale is high enough that a bank would loan money out for new customer. Would not be surprised if Mustang was done by same thief. Same parts removed, similar vintage, and dumped in similar locale.

About the sled idea to help you, I talked to Dicks Sporting Goods and showed them your videos. They said they can help you ascend and decend with a sled. Its common to do. It will help you get down faster to look for more with the time you have. Just a suggestion. Great content. I subbed.

@reverserockettv007 Yes also the white (pick-up?) has an interesting shape. The car showing bottom side is older, I think. There is a hiking path below. The top entrance looks very steep to me. But if you look at the Google 360 pictures it seems rather hiking friendly and beautifully orange flowers. On that 360 picture, I spotted an other car on the other side of the canyon. Do You Remember Chevy's Version of VW air cold engines ? Some people will remember the Corvair, but who remember the VW Micro Bus Chevy version; Corvair Greenbrier van. or Chevrolet Corvair 95 Rampside Pickup. This is landscaper dream truck , the Rampside had a door on the side of the truck bed that could be used as a ramp.

First one obviously a Beetle but without front fenders, VIN, most suspension parts and rear quarters, I can't ID the year -- these cars were cookie cutter production vehicles for 25 years. The other is a Type III VW. Seats have headrest loops so it's a 1969 - 1973 production year.
