I love Riverdel!! I usually go to the Brooklyn location since it's right by Screamers (crown heights). Their carrot lox and chik'n salad are bomb.

Be careful with the cheeses people. After sampling two I bought a piece of one and it was like 13 dollars for a small piece. I also tried the croissant and it was delish

I was there this weekend and noticed that Sugar Sweet Sunshine have several vegan cupcakes. There's also The Pickle Guys in the basement level. The friendly manager told us that's their test kitchen where they do one-off experimental pickles. I sampled the asparagus and the mango options and they were super good. Sidenote: Have you been to the new Pickle Guys shop on Grand/Essex? Next to it is Diller which is a kosher vegetarian place serving stuff like fried pickles, reuben egg rolls and brined fries. I didn't get anything but plan to return!

You should do a Chef's counter review! It's a cool concept where the restaurant takes up a theme each month & their vegan one is ending soon! The vegan mac & cheese looks amazing for it

I was at Essex Market last week. The most gross thing was that Riverdel was right across from a butcher where a pig head was facing them. I don't know how the Riverdel staff can handle it.

Its cultural they these butchers and ethnic food stands have been in Essex market over 30 years plus maybe since the beging when the market opened to serve the comunity many were family run handed down serving the neighborhoods Puerto Rican community and Asians Polish Italians who love pork...and sausages other meats live poultry im pretty sure was there Fish all that at affordable prices The floors were Mostly dirty with age concrete they hosed down to clean I dont judge Though I'll say 1st time there way back as a kid seeing a pyramid of pig noses and feet and head yea Oh HELL! Then I went on my way shopping for my produce mostly there It was SO CHEAP CHEAP not fashionable it was basic the best shopping The nieghborhood was mostly lower mid class labors imagrants All the stands had a sign WE TAKE FOOD STAMPS it was busy mixed ethnicities people greeting each other talking laughing I loved it The LES was what it was because of diversity and immigrants living together with musicans artists outsiders down and out and junkies One big happy family with Street fairs and Salsa music ir Polish Eastern Europe street fairs San Genero over by Elisabeth Street It was beautiful Except and respect me for who I am I accept and respect you the same for what I do how I think how I live And yes Ive eaten a V diet since a kid and a V chef since a teenager So this is a old subject. Cest La Vie

It's so wild to me to see Herbivorous Butcher all the way in NYC!! i literally tried to go the day they opened shop in Minneapolis but couldn't make it cuz my friend and I were going to be late meeting someone! i freaked out when they started selling at the shop next to my friend's donut shop in San Diego and then finally visited for the first time this summer when I moved back home! i think it's the biggest vegan thing to come out of the Midwest that I can think of XD ^^' proud of them and this market looks so great!!!
