I would love for this to be a podcast of some sort! Just a discussion of what or why people photograph. This reminds me so much of Rick Ruben's talks with music artists. Love this!

This is the most thoughtful video I’ve seen in a while. I love her images, and I love the rapport between you. It is also making me reconsider my own approach to street photography.

Wow, Ciara is a very good photographer! She manage to bring life and stories in her images while still being very aesthetic in their look. These things together are not easy. Really a high level here, and certainly one of best been shown on this wonderful channel. 🤗

Ciara's work is great. I feel like she didn't need advice so much as validation. Reuben is Brilliant. This is the best video I've seen in a long time. I like the discussion about growth. I feel like personal growth doesn't necessarily lead to better individual images. It might lead to more good images, or a better hit rate. Or it might lead you to something you love, that you didn't know you could do. So when you improve, don't get stuck on "why aren't my photos better than they used to be?"

Paulie these are truly amazing. These kinds of conversations are extremely valuable to me and i imagine to a lot of other viewers as well. Reuben is such an insightful guy. Would love it if this series continued. Maybe also with different photographers you've had on walkietalkie dishing out advice?

Her work really spoke to me - I can feel many of these photos, see the full scene in my mind playing out. Good work and an instant Insta follow. Your instincts are good…you know the rules and now is the time to allow yourself to creatively break them. 📸

Two requests: do a Walkie Talkie with this amazing photographer, She’s so thoughtful and articulate, it would be great to watch her in action. Second, Reuben’s bias against projects is not necessarily helpful if an artist wants to push themselves to go deeper AND reach a larger audience. The topic of projects might make for a great “office hours” even though it wouldn’t obviously involve Reuben. Consider getting a woman street photographer to talk about projects. Since there are so few women you cover in your episodes, a very different and refreshing POV might result. Reuben is wonderful, but he is more about pontificating and talking about himself than about questioning his own assumptions and really connecting with the person sitting with him-at least that is how he comes across. That said, your videos, Paulie, are so wonderful. Thank you for all of these videos.

Great episode, Ciara's work is great. Loved what Reuben had to say on layering, general rule seems to be that a photo must include it or it's garbage, glad to hear different opinions. I remember the feeling after looking at The suffering of light by Alex Webb and wanting to throw my equipment in the dumpster knowing I will never create anything even close to one of them.

I've subconsciously developed what I think is a very healthy philosophy when it comes to my photography in the last year or so. I don't shoot for Instagram, for likes, for recognition, for growth, etc. I shoot for me. I upload the images I like and if no one else likes them, whatever. I'm having fun.

not every photo needs a story. Not every “great”photo needs a formula. I take photos of certain things to capture humanity/life in its true essence of that we live and that brings me joy and curiosity. The photos we take have a purpose or a reason. Some people’s reason is just for the attention and following/fame on social media…but if that’s your end goal you will start to lose whatever joy you have in the medium and thus boxing yourself to never reach the ultimate potential or growth to what your purpose can truly be as photographer. Social media has become so important to those who are lost and want to feel a sense of belonging but for most amateur photographers we can’t belong if we don’t match the content that is getting those 1k likes. so that joy I had in one subject no longer feels joyful anymore because people on this app aren’t interacting with it like other people photos. So I’m doing something wrong and I feel discredited so I must start taking photos like that of which are similar but feel meaningless/joyless.

The best way to watch this is to turn the screen off and listen. Not because watching gives a false sense of approval but because these are values you can't see but are felt. This is a great episode for anybody in the 1-5 year photography journey people.

Your work is amazing Ciara. For me about what you said is more becoming unconscious. Meaning that the composition part of a picture is instinctive, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't as always but I don't think about it that much anymore. When I first started out I would always but now it's more about what happens in the frame and the composition comes naturally if that make sense. Anyway I love your work, be nice to see a zine or a book come out

Firstly her work is fantastic. Secondly, wooow I really needed this! This constant searching for the right moment instead of just shooting has been plaguing me. Why not take the shot? Anything could happen the second you click that shutter. If it doesn’t resonate in the end then it doesn’t. Who cares. If it does then it’s special. A special moment you could have missed by getting hyper focused on what should be vs what could be. A very special thing can come from the seemingly mundane. As much as the mundane can come from something seemingly special. I’m going to just shoot. If I’m compelled to click the shutter there was something that made me do it. I’m not going to question it. Why limit our possibilities?

I like the comparison to music. If a song doesn't grab me I don't spend much time on it. There's just too much amazing music to behold. At the end of the day art has no right or wrong.
