Hope you enjoyed this episode! I recorded with a completely new setup, so I didn't plig the mic transmitter all the way in, that's why you have this audio quality unfortunately. Next episodes will sound better. If you want to support a dumdum to hire people who can help, please check out my patreon 🥴: www.patreon.com/beatrixguitar

Congratulations on your first podcast. This was an interesting conversation. I understand you can’t always control the environment you are recording in, so this is just a friendly critique because I want you to be successful. With that being said, be mindful of the room and how it reverberates the voices of each person. This video has what I can only describe as a echo from acoustics in the room. It’s not terrible, but it could be better. I’ll be looking forward to your future podcasts. Have a great day!

You’re absolutely right, unfortunately the mics I intended using weren’t working so I had to use the sound of a shotgun mic which was quite far from us and badly positioned 🫠😅🫠 next one in 2 weeks gonna sound better!

You both brought up a very particular problem that people who offer teaching classes in KZbin create for someone like me who is just trying to learn by having a structured guitar learning method. There are so many people in KZbin that overwhelmed this platform and social media with so much information that only makes you feel undecided/hesitant/insecure on who to pick and make you question if you made the right choice. You don’t know who would be the best choice for you. Just like those “Tuning” apps; there are so many of them, and you can’t try each one because that’s gonna cost you a lot of money. I’m 59 y/o and I’ve been taking classes for five years, and sometimes I feel like I’m not where i need to be compared to other people and I feel like I should just give up. But I’m trying.

I hear you, it's a challenging topic. I guess having some kind of teacher degree has to mean something even nowadays, because many players might be good, but that doesn't mean that they are suitable teachers. What I would recommend to avoid is people who say "do this" or "do that", and look for people who explaing the main concept and teach you how to tie that concept on your own body and needs. But most importantly, I learnt that the only person we should compare ourselves to is who we were yesterday. Improving little by little, day by day is the way.

Yes, social media is a nice thing but you often don't know if someone is proficient enough. A million followers, views or subscribers says nothing, on the contrary. To be honest, good online teachers are a minority. One possibility is: start with books and/or lessons in a local official (not a commercial or private) music school. Inform yourself about which methods and manuals are most popular in such a school or even university. Or take a master performer that you like and search if he/she has published educational material. This allows you to have some reference information about what is good and what not. Then you can notice very quickly if an online teacher is worth it. I had many teachers, some of them turned out to be not proficient. That's a part of the game. Unlike the piano, violin etc, the guitar is an instrument that requires a lot of experimentation, trial and error to find your personal path. Sometimes you have to take a step back and adapt/relearn something you do.
