You rock! I had done singing singing success for 1.5 years, and after a month with only the warmup that you put out a while ago I've already become a better singer than I had in the previous year

I've actually took celebrity singers voice, and tried to see if I could hear the voice I wanted. But, sometimes, it wasn't a pleasant site. I can't really do a high pitched sound that well, to be honest, it's not good at all. Sometimes when I try to match the voice, it can be either good, or bad. Sometimes I can find that right one, but then it can go up or down with a certain note.

It's funny, I was told when I was younger that I had a great voice, but I always said, "No, I'm just good at mimicking good singers." Turns out I was just turning myself into a good singer by learning how others sing. Great concept, and now that you made me realize that's what I'm doing, I know it'll be all the more effective.

Hey, Ken! I totally agree with everything you said. I'm a classically trained singer (opera, arie antiche, german Lieder), but I also started to sing in many other music styles some years ago, even when my singing teachers at the music conservatory where against it. Somehow in that way, I found my own voice 😊

When I was in 7th grade I bought an 8 cassette and booklets that was called Heavy Metal Vocal Series. It covered everything from breath control to tonal placement and vowel pronunciation. The guy that made it was anonymous. That was back in 84' I believe. So far you seem to be showing pretty much what this series did but you take it further and I love it. You're awesome man.

Most of my influences are male singers. Male voices helped me find my very own full, dark and even aggressive voice, although I am a soprano. Thank you Ken, for pointing out that influences make you more versatile. I tend to think that I should stick to one thing only, when I really don't have to.

Totally agree with this. Another thing that usually happens to more seasoned artists/bands is that, when they get to a certain level, they start doing their own thing and forget their influences, or at least think that their good enough without them. It doesn't take too long until they start hiting walls creativelly. In my humble opinion, the secret to be successful in music business is to keep listening to new stuff, be inspired by it, and use it as part of your arsenal when you are composing. It doesn't matter how big you are, be humble enough to learn from less known artists.

Fabulous and true! I've never taken voice because I was just too worried about being heard and the risk of not being good enough. I kept to Competitive, Classic A Capella throughout my teens. I wasn't the sole focus of attention. We did grear. All of the groups we'd formed from our A Capella Choir, as well as the choir itself, Won State my Sophmore year. It was a sweep. And I was really happy! But I would be lying if I said I didn't regret taking voice and singing my soul out. Two of my daughters have talent and have pursued vocal training and I'm so glad they went for it! It's a joy to hear them sing! I love your style!

LOVE how you present this topic..There seems to be a fine line between artists trying to mimic in a 'paint by numbers'so it comes off empty performance vs uniquely, passionately inspired recreation type performance (that really highlights a performers artistry)...that often gets overlooked (imho) when folks cover songs.I don't think a lot of people understand the difference. thank you for bringing up this important lesson and explaining it better than anyone I've ever heard try.

What you talk about in your video goes beyond singing, it is the essence of peace. When we are able to understand different styles/people's different beliefs, without losing consciousness to see the divine within us all; we are given the gift of each conscious diaphragmatic, deep, slow, still and steady breath. This is the medium to which we can all connect to the Ultimate, here on this Earth as humans...

I have always been crazy about singing. I literally sing constantly. I’ve loved everything from 50’s music to now and most genres. It took me a long time to get my confidence back after being made fun of by my family for my ugly faces when I sang. I finally realized that there are many artists that make ugly faces when they are singing. It would be awesome if you could make a video about things like this so maybe another kid or adult doesn’t waste as many years as I did hiding my singing because of idiots in their lives.

I’ve hid my singing for years because of an unkind criticism when I was a teenager trying to learn to sing. I just bought Ken’s course and I’m hoping to improve and be able to no longer hide due to embarrassment.

Love this video, Ken Tamplin. I can relate to emulating so many different styles and artists, both male & female, as I have mastered them (I think, and have been told) relatively well over the years, but struggle a lot more these days as I posted in another video, with my voice and crackly sound. I am annoyed by this, though it is not too obvious to the average patron in a pub/venue.

Absolutely Ken. I’m 59 and started doing the Karaoke thing as an excuse to get out of the house about a year ago. I thought I was country but as I’ve put in many hours practice and I started including other genres in particular Eric Burden. I got depressed because I couldn’t hit some of the tough notes and was ready to quit singing, feeling inadequate. I was lucky one night at the karaoke bar. A guy named Toby Rand (Rockstar Supernova) told me how much he loved “my tone” gave me a few tips and because of his encouragement and I’m still plugging away. To your point. I listen to many varieties of requests My first instinct was to say, that’s not what I do but I’ll try. These requests are all over the map genre wise but it’s so true that learning these different styles increases your toolbox allowing you to make different choices but also I now have a broader range and can slip different inflections in a song to make it unique. Thanks for giving back here on YT. Your humble fan, Gregory Clinton.
